Now appears to be called the Pavilion but closed last week when I looked.

Was in last night and was quite impressed - Guinness only 2.60 a pint and other special offers. Staff were friendly and there was a good atmosphere. Better than I remembered.

new look is great and funky, still the beer is crap they havent barred all the idiots yet which can make you feel uncomfortable at times, and half the staff are miserable and dont know how to smile

I work in the office block across the road. The pub is closed for refurbishment and is due to open in mid-September as "Riverside Lodge"

Closed and being gutted as we passed today- not being from Colchester I can't say if it was being refurbished or closed down for good.

No real ale, so if you have any taste buds, avoid. However, food wasn't bad & the layout is good, so imagine a good time possible on certain nights. Dyed blonde barmaids on the lunch time session when I visited. I suppose it is Essex after all......

I like this pub, I have never had a problem with it, it is certianly better than an awful lot of the pubs in colchester. Havent tried the new menu since moving out of that part of colchester but previously have always found it really nice.

The comments below are very unfair. The food is lovely especially since the new menu. The new staff are friendly and always make me and my friends welcome. The place is always spotless, which is a hell of a lot more than can be said about most of the pubs in colchester. Also, the idiots that used to drink in there have been barred due to the new management. I hope u do contract Ebola.
