went in one glorious sunday afternoon and had a couple in the beer garden. the staff seemed very pleasant, the beer was good and although i didn't eat the food looked above average. BUT the decor for me was trying too hard to be contemporary and cool - what's wrong with the traditional pub of yesteryear? why tinker with tradition? i prefer the queens (see my review) and the old dairy (more my local). saying that, i'd go back and wouldn't be unhappy if it was on my doorstep!

Nice enough ...but Greene King have "overdone" ....was better previously ?
But is other half's local so can't say too much :)

Mmmmmm Not really my cup of tea, bit gastro for me. That said, had quite a good night in here on Saturday.Guinness was ok, and the service was good. Not sure about the bloke wearing Monkey boots though. A big no no on people over 11

This has changed totally since my last visit about a year ago. It used to be an unpretentious and slightly scruffy local's pub. Greene King have now given it exactly the same rather over-corporatised pseudo-gastropub makeover that befell Ye Olde Black Lion (the Lion as now is) in West Hampstead. Very busy on the Sunday afternoon when I visited but lacking any real charm - there was also a rather noisy and dominating jazz band. I suspect a number of the former locals will have had to move on elsewhere as a result of the move upmarket, which always makes me uncomfortable. On the plus side, there is a beer garden (can't remember whether there was one before) but to be honest next time I'm in Crouch End I'll probably have a look at one or two of the other pubs.

Seems empty at times and lackes the atmosphere of The Queens and the Kings Head. There are better places to drink in crouch end

This pub has undergone some major changes since its refurbishment and thankfully it’s for the better.
This pub is huge its great for watching the World Cup games on the Plasma screens, during England’s games they have a large projector screen they wheel out, even better!
The beer garden is really nice for sitting in during the hot summer and it even has an aviary for some strange reason.
Which brings me onto the restaurant area, at first they had a very expensive menu that wasn't drawing any people in, but now it’s been redone with cheaper food and lots of bar snacks.
They've also started doing Jazz music on Sunday nights, this isn't going to be to everyone’s taste, and I had to stop myself from asking the Jazz band to stop playing when they asked if anyone had any requests. Well I was trying to watch the football!
This place for me is the best place to drink in Crouch End at the moment, plus I saw Sean Hughes in there the other week, watching Germany vs Poland, so that seals it for me.
Now if they'd just get some rock or indie bands in it'd be sorted.

Like the Queens this pub is also closed for refurbishment. Hopefully it will inject some life back into it.

Big old place that can be a chav-tastic at times!
Well priced for both food and drinks, it's also great for watching live football.

Very good for watching football (they've got six or seven TVs and a giant screen), but a little intimidating if you're not an Arsenal fan. Also a couple of pool tables. Good for a local midweek pint, but not one for the weekend.

Unfortunately full of underage wannabes on the weekend. Good for footie games, not much else. Try the Kings Head or Os instead!

There was once a time I came out of the bushes outside the pub and fell on my chin. This was due to the fact that the toilets were out of order this particular evening. Other than that experience, I have very little bad to say about this pub. In the five years, No, six years that I have been frequenting it, I have seen many changes. There was a time when it was the social centre for people from my old school; now it seems such lively days have gone, but it remains dear to my heart. Overall, it is a friendly family-oriented pub with decent prices and pleasant staff. The food ain't bad either.

They have a reasonable selection of beers, including Abbot Ale and Greene King IPA, but they're not particularly well kept. Better than most, but not great.
Food is good value, especially the lunchtime steak-and-chips and-a-pint deal on Monday and Tuesday (£5.50) and the chicken nachos.

I haven't been for a couple of months. One of the few child-friendly pubs in the area (in the beer-garden only) - good if you like kids (which I don't!). Also good for watching football on TV - especially Arsenal matches.

Enormous local style pub. Pool, darts, and table footy, and the biggest beer garden in Crouch End. Perfect for a summer's afternoon.
