Bobbed into this Wimbledon Village establishment of an evening to catch the back end of the Porto - Arsenal Champions League game. As in the adjacent Brewery Tap, this was broadcast via an Italian Sky feed, the legality of which I am not entirely sure as I am far from an expert. The place was about half full, mainly with groups drinking wine - the wine list here is extensive and rather impressive. I spotted a bottle of (I assume rather vintage) French red which would set you back 100. Slightly cheaper was the Staropramen, 3.70 and the most obvious option as there is no ale; it isn't really that sort of place.

This bar is often busy when I go past and with the moneyed classes of SW19 as its target market, that isn't a surprise. Its not, however, my kind of place and, unless I want to catch a bit of footy, can't see myself becoming a frequent visitor.

Good pub for a drink after work or as a place to be seen or as a first date/blind date venue.
Other than that, an okay place, nothing special...

Not worth it! Don't even bother going, to many things wrong to even begin.....couches are comfy though!

As a drinking venue, this may be ok, but the quality and price of the food is shocking.

You dont expect great food in a pub. And you certainly dont expect a bargain in Wimbledon Village.

Even with these low expectations, The Common Room really is terrible.

More than 3 for cheesy chips would be expensive if they were homemade and perfectly cooked something that any place serving food should be able to manage. When theyre cheap oven chips with economy cheddar on, though, it really takes the biscuit. Presentation isnt everything, but they were just thrown on a plate, as if this was a works canteen, not a trendy bar in one of the most expensive parts of London.

What else is on the menu? A Chip butty for six pounds. Assuming that you dont get the cheese, that would leave you paying an extra three quid for buttered bread to go with your oven chips. What would be the cost of the ingredients in the dish? 20p? Hard as the cheesy chips were to stomach, the prices are worse.

The garlic bread was tasteless and clearly from a packet. The bruschetta with onions and mushrooms was sour and unpleasant. As with the chips, it was just carelessly dumped on a plate with no garnish or accompaniments.

In fact the only thing we ordered that showed any attention to detail was the falafel, which had been thoughtfully plated up with bagged salad. The falafel was edible, but clearly not homemade.

It all makes your local All Bar One seem like fine dining.

What is it with London pubs? No one expects them to have a real chef in the kitchen, but theres something horribly cynical and shameless about the Common Room. With their outrageously high prices and thoughtless presentation they dont even pretend that they care about the food they serve.

A scandal of a bar.

Great food, great staff, one of the better bars in the village not full of merchant bankers or chavs and chavettes.
Good mix of music and would definately recommend it

Anywhere that does a fat chip butty is good in my books. Week nights or weekend afternoons it's a great place to relax. Good wine list.

i was asked for ID even though i'm 22. think that says something about the usual age of the customers

Popped in on Saturday and had to fight to get in. Odd for an overpriced hole full of pretentious snobs. Extremely rude and annoying customers

spent a week night here, very relaxed.. spot of dinner.. (sharing platter is nice at 8.00)
drinks/food could be slightly cheaper but then this is the Village ya! 2.75 for a large mineral water is a bit of a joke. The waffles are fab though! Definitely a week night or Sunday night joint.. but a bit nippy at this time of year, best in summer when the large glass doors are open.

Full of 30-something Putney/Wimbledon Village wannabes... Nice bar, a little over-priced, but has some quirky little idiosyncracies from the rest of the Village (Question's of the Day for a free drink, a constant supply of newspapers to read, board games and a non-smoking section)... I've gone here on a Sunday afternoon for a bite to eat for lunch and left at 10:30pm having had a top day.
