user reviews of Bar Form, Enfield Town

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Much preferred this bar in (what was for my money) its heyday about 7-8 years ago. Back then minor gripes aside, it was a pleasant place to have a couple of drinks on a weeknight, tried to do some different things and was as good a place as any in the area to end your Friday or Saturday night. There were lots of different beers and cocktails to try and the mood and crowd seemed eclectic and slightly off-beat.
On more recent visits (on the rare occasions it seems to open these days), it seems that a lot of the better thing about have been sacrificed in an attempt to appeal to a broader and more mainstream punter. The music is much less varied, the bouncers seem less inclined to let people in, the range of drinks has shrunk and the prices haven't. Still not completely irredeemable but a sad shadow of what it once was and as it never seems to open on weekday evenings anymore, the chance of just having a nice couple of pints in here in relatively comfortable surrounds has gone and now you can only squeeze in alongside the already drunk hordes on a weekend evening.
Sad to see what was initially a welcome and unusual addition to the Enfield drinking scene slowly fading and turning into something altogether less agreeable.

"...[A]part from the george pub which closes at 11:30 there is nowhere else in enfield town even half decent."

Tells you all you really need to know about the value of the last review, doesn't it?

people are always so quick to jump against certain venues and critisise for any little thing and then come online and write about it. if you are going to write a review on something lets in fact speak the truth. bar form is located in a great spot directly opposite enfield town train station. i have been to this venue maybe three times prior to new management taking over recently and have to say it was a dark and dingy place to drink. since the new owners have been in there they have transferred the place into somewhere to go to have a good night, nice vibe, friendly crowd and most importantly good drinks priced very well. the cocktails they sell at the moment are 2nd to none!! the staff do seem very friendly to me, and that includes the friendly gentlemen on the door that will greet you on your entrance. the new seating and decor is a thumbs up from me as the place is alot more bubbly and bright. and it has been alot more busier lately as aposed to afew months ago. this is definately the place me and my girls go to on a friday or saturday night, as apart from the george pub which closes at 11:30 there is nowhere else in enfield town even half decent. ps the toilets do have hand-dryers so i am not to sure as to what the previous review was all about. but hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion i guess. this place gets a 10 out of 10 from me! keep up the good work! x

So, the owners of the last debacle leave and new ones arrive. Who knew it could get worse?

With the bar staff ranging from ambivalent to rude and a toilet that no longer has the hand drier, but a (and i kid you not) hanging towel, to dry your hands, this place is currently the most disgusting place you could ever dream of drinking in.

Bar Form is tucked out of the way opposite Enfield Town train station

Upon entering, youre immediately thrust into the crazy, unique little world of Bar Form. A small space on first appearances, but the lenght of the bar takes you into a space where as the night goes on chairs are pushed back and people get dancing. Mismatched chairs and sofas gives an interesting twist as large chandelier-like arty lampshades bring a warm glow. The tripped out living room style continues with bookcase wallpaper and flip down wooden seats that wouldn't seem out of place in a 1970's church.

The most impressive thing about Bar Form is that it tries hard and is not scared to give things a go. Hosting a wide range of events from DJ Competitions, fashion and film exhibitions, burlesque dancers and promoting local bands. There is always something going on and you really feel that the staff believe in it.
The drinks aren't bad either, with a good selection of imaginative cocktails and shots.... Jam dougnut is a must! There are beers on tap and the interesting spirits glistening in the low lights behind the bar. Of course not to forget the selection of retro sweets such as flying saucers and cola bottles!

Bar Form is a little gem in what is an ever depleting Enfield nightlife. I was hoping the opening of Club 108 would inject life back into the Enfield party scene however the tiresome George and dated Rattlers have come to haunt enfield.

Bar Form should really be situated in the shady streets Shoreditch but thankfully it is not. Instead it offers the people of Enfield a chance to escape and enjoy a night with a fun mix of drinkers who are just out to have good night.

This place is pretty bad.

But, don't worry, it's not all bad news, it's closed most of the week.

Started out with good intentions, an attempt at a 'cool' place for people to drink in town who were too lazy to take the effort to actually make it to somewhere pretty good.

Then the owners obviously got lazy and cuckoo all at the same. The interior was obviously designed by Edward Scissor Hands when he was on crack. Luckily, however, it's so bad, you can't be sure that it's unfinished.

Fortunately, with everyone else putting their prices up around town, Form probably isnt that expensive comparatively. Unless of course your usual alternative is the Moon, in which case, you probably cant count anyway, so you won't notice. They also seem a little less obsessed with getting drinks in that no one else sells in some inept attempt to be cool, and instead are now stocking things people actually want to drink.

Friendliest doormen in town, good work guys.

That's about it.

this bar is ok.... yes depending on who's djing the music is good.
the bouncers will let under 21's in only when they're in a good mood...
and only girls... no boys....
so younger girls can only pull the oldies!!! haaa
NO SPACE!! and its a mission to get to the toilets...
which run out of paper, always a queue, taps are shit and dont work.
but if your not up for a massive nice its nice to go there after the moon
and if u get the munchies off to tubby turks!!
very expensive so ladies you gotta get chattin up some flush looking man!

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE !!
Once a lively and stylish place to go. Is now a DARK, dingy, sleeping tablet.
If you have problems sleeping, go here on any week night =)
The decor is still lovely (when you can see it) and the staff are polite.
Unfortunatley the background music, lighting and ambience would be more suited to a funeral now. The after work drink group I used to go in with and me now choose elsewhere. It seems many others have had the same idea, its dead most of the time now. Drink in The George now (never thought i would say that), the drink is worse, the staff are rubbish and it smells a bit but atleast it has some sunlight and some sort of atmosphere.
Such a shame Form Bar is stuck in this morbid loop.
10 for style, 3 for substance.
Hope it goes back to its once famous bubbly fun roots.
LittleMiss76 - 10 Apr 2009 17:39
I work at Form at the weekend. We've been not liking the toilets for a while (not helped by the fact that over enthusiastic punters tend to unintentionally wreck them on a regular basis!) I know a refurb is planned in Oct08 though including Dyson Airblade handdryers and better lighting..not a moment too soon, I say!
How so you were waiting too long though Monkfish- we have a lot of staff at weekends specifically so people don't have to wait...no one ever complains about having to waiting even when we're rammed??

casper13 - 23 Sep 2008 17:52
Still a really great place to pop in for a few post work beers. Great selection of beers(plus cocktails), nice decor and not as dear as it used to be in comparison with other local watering holes (I believe they have merely held their prices at the same level for longer whilst others have raised theirs dramatically rather than any actual price cut being involved). Nice choice of different seating, most of it very comfortable indeed.
The only downsides are long waits and a slightly self-satisfied crowd on busier nights, a distinct lack of variety in the background music at other times and the fact that the once impressive toilets (replete with video screens above the urinals and a hidden hand drier) have fallen into complete disrepair to the point that they are now disgusting and for some reason the home of the dimmest lightbulbs known to man. The video screens have long since ceased to function and the hand drier not only smells damp and musty but has the drying power of an asthmatic gnat blowing on your hands. It's a shame that the level of effort put into the rest of the bar wasn't given to the loos.
Minor gripe, still very good and the only "bar" style establishment in Enfield Town worth it's salt.
Mr.Monkfish - 17 Aug 2008 20:29
This place is completely insane.
TapsPunk - 2 Oct 2007 15:18
now decorated in a weird Southern gothic style.Still great
crimsonpirate - 26 Sep 2007 13:51
It's just all a bit barmy really.

(But barmy in a completely endearing way)

dreake - 4 Sep 2007 14:34
Bar form is the best place for a non trouble night out in enfield, good beer, ok music, can be a little crowed at times but they aren't any chavs so that makes up for it..
bjam81 - 4 Apr 2007 15:23
Fair play to the people running Bar Form. It's STILL great to have a "different" bar to go to in little ol' Enfield. They've made a decent go of it over the years with the comedy and live music.

The beers are top quality but they dont always have a full selection.

I hate the smoke though, its gets SERIOUSLY smokey in there and cant wait till July'07.
I also agree with other comments that the music is TOO loud. You cant have any conversation in the bar when there is live music. great to have music but if you are at the other end you want to chat and chill out. turn it down at the back!!

Still a great vibe - well done Bar Form.
celeryuk - 26 Feb 2007 16:21
This place is kinda nice still, but the irregular opening times coupled with the reduced space due to the ever increasing size of sofa's means it's a little pointless attending when it's busy.

TapsPunk - 1 Feb 2007 15:22
Now this is a superb place to visit. The beer is a little pricey, but its good beer, none of your fosters muck. The seating area at the front is very smart and the staff are probably the best in the whole of Enfield, and Ron the doorman is a proper nice bloke. Never had any problems in my frequent visits, there are regular live bands and they have a jazz night on a Thursday! Nice.
clarkie10 - 15 Nov 2006 10:14
I just got called a rascal, shocking behaviour.

Also, yeh, they finally serve Star so nice work.

TapsPunk - 23 Sep 2006 15:36
Can't believe there's some neg reviews for this bar! Tapspunk, you opinionated rascal, I went there yesterday and had a Hoegaarden. I liked Leffe too, but they replaced it with Kwak..evil stuff but you should try it.

Yes, it's small, but it's way the best in Enfield. The cocktails there seem to get better all the time and it never takes long to get served even when it's rammed. Also, the staff are always so lovely and look like they enjoy working there.

Only crit for me is that I wish it did more food, but I don't know if it's set up for that as it opens late.

anonymous - 28 Jul 2006 12:19
Leffe and Hoegaarden have both gone and Amstel too if you dont count the two times a month it's actually available.

Having said that, considering The Taps is still terrible, where else is there to drink?
TapsPunk - 25 Jul 2006 19:44
I prefer this place earlier in the night when you can virtually have the whole place to yourself. Suddenly after 7:30 the place is mobbed.

From memory, Amstel and Leffe, Hoegarden (?) beers, and various cocktails. Served in a variety of strange glasses.

Sort of a dance floor but the sofas seem to have taken it over. Weird seeing the DJ in a little hidey hole above the toilets.

I love the picture of the Victoria Road tower block being demolished.

Shame it has found itself stuck in the one-way loop now.
sausageroll - 21 Jul 2006 15:54
worth a trip on thursday nights for live jazz - some decent musicians playing down there.

nice atmosphere, good beer, friendly bar staff, easy going kinda place.

could do with a few more people though - has always been a bit quiet - no reason I can see other than it's a bit out of the town being opposite enfield town station.

graydix - 30 Jun 2006 14:13
Wannabe trendy bar for lazy people.
anonymous - 16 Jun 2006 19:02
Yes i know i was the last review! Im allowed ;o)

Wasnt as good as last time, the staff were rude, took a long time and the drinks didnt taste right.

Maybe i was too quick to judge last time haha!
Minx1979 - 26 Mar 2006 02:49
This place is the best in town!

Great music, great selection of drinks and the best adn friendliest staff in Enfield!
Minx1979 - 31 Jan 2006 00:12
excellent early in the week supping from a selection of Belgian beers while watching obscure videos like Koyaanisqatsi
crimsonpirate - 12 Sep 2005 13:57
this bar i think has just about got it right atmosphere, seating, beer, cocktails, DJs, fit fem staff! that is in its self worth spending the nite and the money.
babasub - 30 Jul 2005 13:56
Average attempt at being trendy.

Same four guys during the week, for it to get busy at the weekend. Continually run out of the drinks you would like to drink leaving the second rate over priced draught that only one of them seems to know how to pour properly.

Soundbite, you ask...

Chavs getting dressed up.
TapsPunk - 10 Jul 2005 20:56
Trendy Bar in Enfield Shocker. I like this place it has a very relaxed atmosphere and is surprisingly welcoming. I am not trendy or cool by a very very long shot but have never felt out of place in this bar. Serves Absinthe which adds a nice twist to an evening. Bar Staff know there stuff and have no attitude you find in other places like this. All in all a top bar
Meach - 20 May 2005 21:07
Decent bar, great beers and cocktails - great staff and cool music. Only downsides its pricey as you like, and if you like the idea of spending evenings with the local estate agent wideboys trying to be lords then its the place for you. The fact that its the best isn't because its any good - its that their is no competition
gibbo2837 - 6 May 2005 11:02
Compare this to the awful Bar Ten just round the corner to illustrate just how spot on the owners have got this bar. Nice laid back atmosphere and comfortable seating, great selection of beers & cocktails served by knowledgable staff and it won't break the bank either. Also puts in the effort by offering a wide variety of entertainment from Funky DJs to Rocking Live Bands and with a very good comedy night thrown in. an excellent place to chill out in after work (it's opposite the train station for the uninitaited) or after shopping.
Mr.Monkfish - 15 Nov 2004 11:55
Superb coctktail stop in enfield town - after the shopping. Atmosphere sehr gemutlich. Live music and comedy nights great fun. Great place to meet people early in the evening before dinner. Great place to stay on in. Great place to come back to later. I recommend the Vodka Martinis.
James Upton - 3 Nov 2004 18:18
RETRO PERFECTION......The Epicentre of Enfield.
This Jekyll & Hyde of a bar fuses daytime kick back with evening pump to awesome effect.
The decor and attention to detail is stunning and only further enhances the unique and superb atmosphere.
Amounst many other things, this hot spot offers about every style of background music plus DJs, Live Bands, Comedy Store Nights as well as continental food and one of the most unusual and comprehensive selections of Belgian beers and cocktails I have seen, not just in Enfield but in London !
Be it weekday or weekend this style laden bars ability to put a smile on your face is
matched only by its suitably stylish (and may I say stunning) staff and atmosphere.

The Count - 4 Oct 2004 17:24
This is the best bar outside of Shoreditch! Cocktails were amazing..none of your tacky pina coladas here! I went to a comedy night there last thurs; it was fantastic. Will be going back, highly recommended.
Rachel - 27 Sep 2004 16:14
Best bar in the area by a country mile,Sunday nights are especially good as they have live bands on.
Gant - 4 Jun 2004 16:47
Having tried most bars in the area, this has become my favourite. Boys love the beers, girls love the cocktails, great decor and good music. What more could you ask?
jules - 30 Apr 2004 11:29
Trendy atmosphere, a pole apart from all other bars in enfield, good selction of belgian beers and cocktail, reasonably priced, live DJ, the best place in the area
Caroline Harding - 6 Apr 2004 23:18
