A decent looking pub adjacent to the waterside precinct, with a busy little sun terrace at the front. Less crowded indoors, & cooler. A pint of Shakespeare (3.10) was pretty good, as was the service. After some adventures in back street Bristol pubs I was happy to sit & sip quietly here even if it was more tourist heavy.

Decent boozer, despite the evident Greene King tie.
Had a couple of well-kept pints here - a hoppy American-style IPA and then a pint of Shakespeare, which is brewed for the pub.
Busy with hen and stag dos, but still convivial enough.

Stayed in a hotel next to this pub on a work night and was in most nice with colleagues. Friendly staff, good prices and an excellent pint of Golden Hen. Shall deffo return when next in Bristol.

Pleasant pub just round the corner from the chains on dockside. Small range of ales but well kept and various. Some green king, but enough others to avoid them. Food looked good, but didn't sample

A sensitive refurbishment and an imaginative selection of guest beers make this welcoming hostelry Bristol city centre's most improved pub. Capable and friendly staff know how to keep both their beer and their customers, and it's good to see them pushing the Greene King guest ale roster as far as it'll go. A recent visit brought offerings from Titanic (how apt) and Nottingham Brewery, and thankfully I can't remember the last time I had to resort to GK blandobeers. Curioushistory can be assured that his January experience isn't the norm here.

Atmospheric, proper pub sympathetically refurbished. Unfortunately Greene King beers, and on this visit there were no guest beers; is this the new policy? Let's hope not!

This is one of the few proper, traditional pubs left in the central Bristol area, and all the better for it. There is a small patio area at the front, which is a pleasant enough spot although being opposite a busy junction it doesnt have much of an outlook.

Inside, theres a front and rear bar. Both are fairly small and it can get quite busy in here, so youre often unable to get a seat. Both bars are similar in style, with some wood panelling on the walls, old floorboards and a few nautical items on the wall such as old black and white photos of ships and the obligatory display of various knots in a glass case. Although the pub does not have a nautical name, it is just a few yards away from the docks, so its appropriate enough. The rear bar has a couple of interesting leaded, stained glass windows.

Theres a good choice of food on the pub grub menu, with the usual suspects such as chilli, lasagne, ham, egg & chips, etc., mostly priced in the 5.50 - 7.50 price bracket. There were other sections on the menu such as burgers, sandwiches, jackets, etc, and a board proclaimed that Pie Minister pies were also available, although these did not appear to be listed. Other boards gave information on the Sunday lunches and Tuesday quiz nights.

Beers on tap were the regulars from the Greene King stable IPA, Abbot Ale and Speckled Hen. There was also Okells Old Skipper and Thwaites Wainwright. Ciders were well represented with Blackthorn, Thatchers Gold and Aspalls Suffolk.

A great real pub situated near all the pretentious crap places along the waterside. Serves food at lunch time and has a good selection of real ales. Friendly staff and always a pleasent atmosphere even when empty (which isnt often).

While the two words "Greene" and "King" would and should be enough to scare most people off, this place is a major exception to the rule. While the bile from Bury St E does hold court a good guest is usually to be had,on this ramble it was St Austell Proper Job. Also available was Davenports Highland Whisky ale. Barman was pleasant and pub was nicely busy. It just galls me to think I'm lining the coffers of GK who don't want anyone else bar them to make a living, but in this case I have to play the hypocrisy card. Well done to this pub, keep up your good work and don't let the bastards grind you down!

What a blessed relief from the other dross situated around the harbourside. If your idea of a good night out is a punch up followed by puking on your tracksuit then go elsewhere. A very nice pub with a good selection of beers including guest ales which change fairly frequently. There is a good quiz night on Tuesdays which is well attended.

This is a great pub, particularly for the area that it's in. If you want a proper boozer and not some trendy theme bar, they're a bit thin on the ground around here.
There's a small outside patio area to watch the traffic go by, and two rooms within the pub, both with a bar area. It's got a traditional feel with plenty of wood panelling. The staff are generally pleasant enough, although it can be difficult to get served when they're busy.
Blackthorn and Old Rosie on draft plus a few beers. I had a nice pint of Gem for a change. Wednesday's they have a Pieminister Pie evening, and a Fish & Chips evening on Thursdays.

Have been in a few times recently and really like it. Decent choice of lagers and had a nice pint of Tom Wood's Bomber County. Front and back bar, food looks alright. Plenty of seats, though does get busy.

Had a decent Holdens beer here the other night, was pissed up with Fat_Beer_Badger!!! I'm trying to get him not to be as nice to horrible pubs!!!!!!!!!!!

Pub seemed ok,a bit too bare boarded but the barwoman was friendly.

Will go back for a visit on the recommendation of the last review but when the ale is Greedy King,Ruddles and New Speckled Hen-and probably 2.70 a pt-it had better be good!! Was perenially disappointing in the past.

this pub has changed beyond all recognition over the past year - and only for the better. The food is spot on - good value, quick and largely homecooked - the music is rightly understated and the beers are always well kept. Maybe you should suggest to the landlord to reduce his bulb wattages, Quinno...

Greene King have ruined this pub.

Used to be a very pleasent old school boozer, nice and dark, lots of nooks and crannies with old fellas supping pints and giving you the latest on their old hounds hip operation at the vets. Have very pleasent memories of watching the World Cup matches in here in '98 before going over to the Thekla to grab a goth and shimmy on down to Northside.

Went back in here for the first time in a few years last week and now it's all lit up, the nooks and crannies have been reduced to a minimum and the atmosphere was non-existent.

A waste. Utter waste. Don't bother going.

By far the best old fashioned real pub in Bristol. New menu, good prices, big portions. Casque Marque real ale, 4 choices. No trouble, no loud music, no stella drinkers. Relax, read a newspaper (provided) and suck on a pickled egg. There is nothing better than the hum of conversation and the clink of glasses in a pub. A dying breed.

Good green King Pub open 11am Mon to Sat

Nice cosy dark traditional pub. Nothing particularly exception about it apart maybe from the slightly cliquey boat crowd that use it regularly.

Good place for an after work pint by a fire.
