Superb to walk straight off the Cumbrian Way and into this fine walkers bar. 6 real ales on, most local, I went for a Theakstons Old Peculiar and an Estwaite Bitter whilst waiting for the log burner to do its magic on my wet clothes and frozen body!

Excellent walkers pub, good choice of beers, honest filling food, welcomes dogs no matter how wet and dirty like their owners after a day on the fells.

I am amazed at the positive feedback for this pub. I visited recently , the service was downright rude. Beer was ok. Pub was dirty as was the grotty outside. There are much better pubs nearby. This pubs rests on it's previous reputation which is a shame.

Found the landlord to be intolorant of morons which was refreshing! Great Lakeland pub, good food and excellent beer,

Having spent many weeks camping in Great Langdale for many years this place remains probably my favourite pub anywhere. Fantastic location, great choice of well-kept beer, good homemade food and bar staff with character - if not teeth :O) Cracking.

Great to see that it's finally got it's own listing back!

One of my favourite pubs in the world and has been since my first Lakeland foray 21 years ago. My most recent visit reminded me of what it is that's so good about it:

Superb selection of very well kept beers (the Old Peculier in particular)
Real cider too
Good staff serving
Good food that is hearty after a long day
No issues at all about muddy boots/wet clothes etc
Best position in the Lakes with all-round good views
Many, many, many other reasons that I can't formulate right now as I'm 250-odd miles away and want to be there NOW!

Long may the ORG thrive!

Went to the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hikers bar after a long walk. Nice to find a few real ales on handpull. A classic old fashioned bar,no fancy frills, just a nice friendly place to sit and enjoy a beer after a long days walking. The ale was served and kept well, had some Cumberland ale, have to say its the best one ive had in a while, other pubs havent kept it right, also had a nice pint of Theakstons XB which went down nicely. The bar staff were friendly and happy to have crack and the lad was very knowledgeable about his ales. The outside was pleasant as well with several tables to sit and enjoy a scenic area. Shame I had to get the bus back to Ambleside at 4.15 as I couldve stayed and drank all evening. Look forward to returning when I am in Langdale again.
