Now that the Bar manager has left due to the Landlord being a complete penny pincher this pub will be lucky to carry on.
Would be a far better pub minus all the bleedin' Elvis memorobilia and pictures of the guvnor with random celebrites adorning the walls. I hear the boss is a bit of a fool and this just goes to confirm it. Eating a Thai meal with a novelty Elvis clock gyrating above you is amusing for all of 0.003 seconds.

If you like pubs that looks like someone's living room then it's OK
But went there on Saturday it was a pretty poor pub - service was slow - they serve Thai food but the prices are really expensive given the surroundings and the portions small. Had the shared platter for 2 which was almost £10 and they literally give you two of everything (about five things) - we were so hungry we even ended up eating the garnishings they used to decorate the plate.
Their set Thai meals were around £16 a head which again given the surroundings is way over priced. Based on the quality, price and portions of the starter we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. If they reduced the price and increased the portions then would have been a lot better.

agree with other comments - this pub is vastly improved and has returned to traditional pub values under new management. one slight criticism is that they have dispensed with the adnams broadside - this can never be a good move but otherwise great.

Good news from JohnR. Back in the 80s I was there every Saturday night for the live jazz and the lovely beer. I may return!

Real ale & food are back - well worth a visit again.

Has anyone else been to this place recently (March 2006)? I've just moved nearby, and wondered if it was worth checking out.

A return to form for the Half Moon following a change in Management in early 2006. The carpets have returned!

This was once a very nice pub. The Indian cuisine was excellent and the beer reasonable priced. The inhabitants were a good mix and a friendly, trouble free atmosphere prevailed.
However, come July 2005, a new owner took over who promised to make it more profitable. What he did was basically scrap the food, bring in Karaoke nights, get rid of the beer and replace it with lager, stop cleaning the toilets properly, and generally invite the kind of chav scum who had previously inhabited the closed down dive that was the Timber Carriage.
Avoid.

WE WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT ON BEHALF OF "MUSICIANS WATCH" THAT ALL MUSICIANS AND BANDS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS VENUE AS THE MANAGEMENT HAVE A VERY BAD TENDANCY TO CANCEL YOUR GIG WITHOUT ANY NOTICE OR AT VERY SHORT NOTICE (3DAYS) AND WILL NOT PAY ANY SORT OF CANCELLATION FEE OR RESCHEDULE THE GIG THAT THEY HAVE BOOKED WITH YOU WHATSOEVER. WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT THE MANAGER SHANE IS EXTEREMLY RUDE AND UNPROFFESSIONAL AND WILL NOT COMPROMISE WITH ANYONE AND LIKES SLAMMING THE PHONE DOWN ON YOU OR IMPERSONATING SOMEONE ELSE.

You may like to know that there has been a change of management and a subsequent reversal of the No Smoking policy. Smoking is permitted in the lounge but there are other non smoking areas.
|
Went to this pub on Saturday night with the missus and they were serving pints of Hobgoblin which was lovely. The pub has a no smoking policy which is great and they have gained a regular customer from me because of this. Food was ok and cheap. All in all a good pub with good beers and I would recommend it.
|
I like the pub. The food is very good value for a weekend lunch stop or mid week meal. Can get very crowded, especially in the smoking area, (tut tut). Has become a much younger crowd in there, much to the disatisfaction of the "regulars". £5a for a bottle of plonk!!! bargain.

There are a couple of bigots at the Half Moon, no more than anywhere else. The difference is that most of the regulars will put them back in their box if need be.

A nice locals bar with lively chat and debate , intresting decor and great beer , foods crap unless you like curry but the staff are wonderfull ( WELL DONE GUYS & GIRLS )

The sad truth is that while the beer and food in this pub is great. The locals are a bunch of bigots, and proud of it. And that's with an asian landlord who has actually made the effort to get different and interesing British ales in.

I went in to the bar and was racially taunted before I had even placed an order at the bar, nice place to go if you are a racist. Didn't expect that as they famed for their indian cuisine

The food in the Half Moon is very reasonable and they specialise in Indian Food great for a mid week treat.

Good pub, new owners for about 18 months, Live music on a Friday Quiz on a Thursday and “Open Mic” session on a Tuesday. Serves Indian/Mexican/English food. Good Service and friendly Staff. I mainly go there for the Indian food because its excellent, they have just brought out a new menu with more dishes than the previous one. Close to the White Horse, Castle & Café-Cafe which are the only four decent pubs in Harrow in my honest opinion and I’ve drunk in all of them (except the new one round the back of Harrow-on-the-hill Station).
Definitely worth a visit for the Indian Cuisine.
