Visited today after last visiting in September 2011. My God - what a difference! Gone is the welcoming and happy Landlord, replaced with a lady devoid of the ability to smile or converse. An improved paint-job inside but an atnosphere that could chill the dead. Sorry Shipton Gorge.

Visited this pub today for lunch and received a warm and cheerful welcome from the landlord who is everything a landlord should be. The food was excellent but pricey for a bar meal. For good value pub grub take a drive to Portland where prices are appreciably lower.

Used this pub several times whilst on holiday. The landlord, Gary, is what landlords should be; friendly, welcoming, and interested in his customers. I felt more welcome than I do in my own local. The three Palmers beers are in tip-top condition. The meals are first class too. In view of the pub's history, and it's closure and reopening a few year's ago, I would encourage all committed beer drinkers to use this pub when they're in the vicinity.

Well out of the way, but well worth the detour. Good beer, extensive (and rather expensive) menu, and a library of sorts, where books are donated by customers and one can take one's choice for a 50p charity donation per volume. I like it well enough to have had two trips here, and another one is due soon.

Village run local that has an extensive Menu and 3 very well kept Palmers on cask. Run well by Gary and Sandra as it was due to close a while ago but is now in GBG 2010. Fantastic story and well worth leaving the A35 for if you're in the area.

Good, unpretentious village pub, more an eatery than a drinkery but not exclusively so at all.
Of interest because Palmers Brewery tried to close it and a posse of villagers bought the lease (or similar, a Google search will get the full story) and installed an ideal landlord, who is friendly and seems to remember you even if you go in very rarely.
Beer is Palmers usual stock (better kept than Palmers often is), plus Thatchers Gold Cider. Food is mid range (gammon, fish pie, etc.), quite pricy for what it is, but not majorly so for this area, but very well executed.
