We found this pub by chance when driving through Kentish lanes. We had a good meal and the service was excellent. The value for money was very good (£12 for a two-course special, at a weekend). The menu is not very long, but the selection is good. We sat on a pleasant terrace, in the shade. There is also a garden. The owner said that they have been running the pub for five years, so comments from 2010 or before can probably be ignored. I did not try the beer, but there was a fair choice. I am surprised that this pub has received so few reviews. It is hardly in a remote location, being one mile from the A227. Try this pub rather than the over-priced ones in the area. You will not be disappointed.

As mentioned previously this pub has been recently refurbished and is under new management. I am very impressed with the transformation. The cuisine is exquisite, the wine is of good quality and the company is absolutely fine. Many thanks for welcoming me into your public house and I look forward to coming again.

We visited this pub recently after hearing rave reviews about the new refurbishment and new head chef. I am happy to report we were not let down. The pub looks miles better than it ever has, a real country pub where you can feel comfortable to sit and have a drink or have a meal, not the Locals pub it once felt like. My Husband and I are real foodies and like top class food so We were hoping and praying that the food would of improved as much as the refurb, we were not disappointed. The food was amazing! Absolutely first class! The crab and smoked salmon starter was like an absolute dream and tasted so fresh ( I cant wait to have it again) the lamb cooked to perfection, melted in the mouth with homemade mint sauce and extremely fresh veg. Pudding, homemade sticky toffee pudding, I could have bathed in it, it was that good. You could easily have mistaken it for being in a 5 star Michellin restaurant, what with the food and presentation being of such a high quality.. There was a great wine selection the complement the meal and service to match. We were immediately on the phone to our family and friends to tell them to go for a meal. They've listened and a number of them have already been back numerous times. We are planning on going back this weekend and it's our first Wedding anniversary soon, that deserves a special meal, so I think we will be back for a romantic meal then aswell. To be honest I think I'm going to create as many special occasions as my bank card will let me, just so I can keep going back for lunches/dinners! I would really recommend you take a visit to this little gem and try it for yourself, you'll be counting down the days until your next visit, I know I am!!!!

Looked a bit bare and unwelcoming when we first walked in but livened up when some more people arrived. Very simple, cheap menu on a Sunday: roasts, a couple of veggie options or sandwiches: portions were pretty substantial. Beer was St.Austell "Tinners" or "Proper job" both served from the cask.

Have been to this pub twice in the last 9 months for Saturday lunch and both times they had run out of Bacardi, Red Bull and smirnoff ice and some beers were also off. Apparently, this is because on Friday nights they sell out! Well, i've got news for them order some more!!!!!! Won't be visiting again.

A small group of us combined a visit to the Papermakers and Golding Hop with a walk around Plaxtol. A friendly local pub with Harveys and another beer served straight from the cask, cant remember the other due to visiting the Golding Hop before the Papermakers. Beer and staff were excellent and we stopped for a few pints and missed the next bus back, tried to figure out if the pub was inhabited by a small friendly bear, or a large friendly dog. Another pub worth a visit, and can be combined with either a longish walk from larger towns, or shorter walk and the bus.
