Famous as the pub where Fat White Family, Shame and other denizens of the Brixton music scene of the early 2010s started out and hang out at - it's a few years on now and was quiet on the occasion of our visit. Hard therefore to judge although service was friendly. We weren't expecting fireworks on the beer front but there's no getting around the fact that the selection was below par and two key tipples were off.

you know what I remember this place now…it's where the landlord was accused of being racist and abusing female customers http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/outrage-as-brixton-pub-landlord-blacks-up-to-host-ku-klux-klan-themed-party-9840054.html I understand they've been popular as a late night party pub in recent years, but last time I went it wasn't really a place for a quiet drink in the daytime. Drinks were pretty poor last time I went in, from what I remember. Half the stuff they had on tap was off/unavailable and it stank a bit of cleaning fluid. Shame. Was good once.

Great pub. Went in here with the girlfriend recently - it was all warm and cosy with log fires, candles and fairy lights. Some good real beer and cider on tap...and a barrel of house red wine! Good staff and friendly locals. Must go back for the food, which looked really nice from the menu up on the wall.

This is a really decent pub. A "proper" pub, if you like. The oldest boozer in Brixton, now under new management. Been in a fair few times recently and it's becoming a bit of a local favourite. They've got two real ales on (Wandle and Landlord last time I was in) as well as an excellent cider selection (Old Rosie, Aspalls, Weston's and something else, all on tap) and a decent looking selection of wine.

They seem to have sorted the food out good as well - my mates had a huge Sunday roast and there was a good range of meals and bar snacks up on the blackboard. A lot of people seemed to have come for the Sunday dinner and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

It was also pretty lively on the Friday night we went in. There was DJ and a guy playing guitar for some of the evening, which was good and it wasn't too loud that you couldnt still have a conversation with your mates! There seemed to be quite a few people stopping in for a quick pre-gig beer, as it's really close to Brixton Academy / O2 Academy and less crowded than the more generic pubs on the High Street.

They also have an outside courtyard area..a bit cold for this time of year (other than for a quick ciggie) but I'm sure that'll be really nice in the summer.

All in all a really nice pub and well worth visiting if you're in the area. It's only about 5 mins from the tube.

Recently visited and found it under new management. Feels better and the roast dinners on a Sunday were well priced and great amounts of food. Nice cider too.

Formerly the Far Side (and no doubt other names before that including, I think, the New Queens Head). The outside paintwork isn't exactly inspired, but the interior offers a fairly typical part-modernised South London pub experience. Smallish, horseshoe-shaped bar, with two handpumps offering Adnams Broadside and Explorer (the latter at 3.50, but not in the best condition and too warm on a hot summer day). The best feature is, perhaps, the modest patio beer garden.

have to agree with the last poster, had a great sunday lunch last week, watched the football and stayed a bit too long!
