please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub is now a Tommy Flynn's. As far as I could tell, it's almost exactly the same as it was 4 years ago, but I had to leave after 30 seconds as the front half stank of piss due to clientele and the back half stank of piss due to the gents toilet opening directly into the pub. Didn't spot any customers leering over the barmaids, getting weirdly involved in pub owner politics and saying things like "happy days", though, so that's one bonus.

This pub is dodgy. Full of 'geezers' in and out of the toilet with rolled up 5 pound notes and aggressively shouting across the bar at each other.

In fairness there is also a contingent of perfectly respectful old Irish fellas drinking themselves into a stupor but perfectly peacefully also. Plenty of lonely guys sitting round the bar trying to pass the day.

Busy when Arsenal play obviously.

Doing much better these days. New landlord who seems quite a decent guy. Had a bit of trouble in there lately I heard so the police have put it back on their radar sadly. Had the interior and exterior painted but you need sunglasses to go inside due to the colours! The person who decided on such a mish-mash of colour should be strung up! Its nice to see it on the up finally but still some way to go - but its getting there!

Open again and doing well.Nancy is back and Michelle the govnor is fine, entertainment weekends.Being done up outside but needs it inside.Us unfriendly lot, whom have drunk here for 15+ years are still around so hopefully complete and utter tools like bbx1138 will stay away.Happy days!
super - 25 Mar 2011 13:14
Open again! Might not be for long, though, as it's still got the For Sale pub agents signs up. Enjoy this amazing 10/10 dirty, rank, unfriendly dive while you can!

This pub is now closed, let us hope that someone can get it free of tie as this is the only way to make a profit here.

No chip at all, drank in here for over 10 years and it's a shame to see a packed vibrant pub with excellent barstaff go to the dogs because the Landlords(who has gone bust funnily enough) sister would rather drink herself silly than run the pub properly. Nancy is gone now and Dave went at the begining of April!

Gloria is excellent and slowly bringing the punters back, just need the new owners to clean/refurb the place so we can get rid of the people who enjoy sitting in dumps ;)

Sounds like super/supermum has a chip on his/her shoulder...

Yes, this pub is dirty, the barstaff aren't very talkative, the toilets are rank and the prices could be a little cheaper to offset all this. BUT the pub is also quiet and comfy, with some nice leather sofas and a great pool table. The staff are friendly if you make the effort (only Dave and Nancy left now, both very nice), and it's only 3.10 for a Stella - not too bad compared to the dive across the road that has broken the 4 barrier.

For someone like me who likes shabby old-man-pubs, this one's perfect for a couple of drinks in the week, or at the start of a night out.

Hopefully the new owners won't change it into another terrible gastro-pub...

Gone.Dead.Kaput.Finito.

Closed all this and last week. Rumour has it they've gone bust, not nice for anyone but only have themselves to blame,no interest in the place itself or their customers. Perhaps now someone sensible and customer orientated will take over and it can get back to how it was pre 2007.

The Hercules is dead,Long live the Hercules!

Heard this is closing, stunning, large breasted Irish girls behind the bar latley.

Granted this place wasnt very busy when I visited so I didnt get to see any of the supposed scum that drink in here, but I didnt think that it was that bad. The barman/governor seemed ok, although he didnt look like the sort of bloke you'd ask to top up your pint. Not unsurprisingly for an Irish pub there is only a selection of standard draught available, but my Guinness was good.

Horse racing was on one plasma in the bar area and an interesting programme about beavers was on the other. I also spotted a rolled up plasma screen, dartboard and a pool table in the dingy area at the rear of the pub.

I wouldnt ever go to this pub again, but I didnt think it was as bad as the reviews on here suggest. Maybe my standards have dropped since witnessing the horror that is The Holloway down the road.

Full of Scarey Marys and Bulldog Bills. Walked in, spun round , swift exit.

Well, its been nearly a year since I last posted a comment about this place and, unbelievably it has got even worse. I cannot believe that this pub is still trading. The prices recently went up and there is nothing in this world that could justify that, I would be very surprised if the lines are ever cleaned. Always empty, filthy overpriced dump. Avoid.
Supermum - 30 May 2009 00:06
Sort it out, more people(5-10) outside on the pavement on a Friday night than inside the pub.Miserable barman moaning about kids in the pub.Does not take a genius to work out that if the parents and kids left there would be no clientele.Never been a clean pub but getting worse every visit, shame, was a pretty decent boozer on a Friday night 5 to 10 years ago.Won't bother visiting again, plenty of better bars in the area.R.I.P the Hercules.

unbelievable dive.
worth seeing once on the grounds that its a spectacle

Honest_Joe - 15 Aug 2008 13:09
OH MY GOD! I didnt think it was possible for this place to get any worse but it has!!! It is positively a health hazzard, absolutely filthy. The toilets are the worst Ive EVER seen. Minging with no soap or loo roll. The gents is swimming with urine. How this place is still in business I will never know - no wonder it is always empty. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Yuk.
Supermum - 30 Jul 2008 13:54
Two months has passed since I had to wipe my feet on the way out of this pub, smellier than I remember with the same downfalls multiplyed by 100.

Do not waste your cash in this place,go to the swimmer, enkel or big red!

YUK YUK YUK.

What a dive, filthy smelly toilets, strange barstaff, dirty glasses.Would not recommend wasting your hard earned in this overpriced dump.Strange blonde Irish lady(staff or manager)giggly and easy if you get my drift.
anonymous - 28 Sep 2007 11:04
Dump,filthy,minging,health hazard.

Know what the others mean about the landlady.Terrible attitude to customers, curt and abrassive.

6-8 years ago this was a nice friendly pub,how can it have gone downhill so fast!
anonymous - 12 Sep 2007 12:24
Absolutely dead. Friendly locals have mostly been driven away by the owners sister who runs the bar for him. She is most unfriendly and usually drunk. Hes not much better! Totally devoid of atmosphere and always empty. Not what it used to be. This is a prime example of a traditional pub that has been driven into the ground by incompetency. What a shame.
Supermum - 8 Sep 2007 17:13
Complete and utter dump.Owners sister runs the bar and is drunk and rude more often than not.Friendly locals are all but gone as are the decent barstaff that were at this pub from ,99 to about '05.When going to the odeon opposite recommend the swimmer for drink or amazon cafe for food.
super - 3 Sep 2007 14:42
It's a town centre pub, nuff said.
Notasaffa - 17 Apr 2006 15:57
Always empty but the drinks are ok.

I must say that the toilets look like that the Battle of Britain has passed through it...twice!!
Devilfish2006 - 11 Apr 2006 12:41
looks like a dive everytime i pass by 2 scared to go in for a drink always seats free though older crew

anonymous - 8 Apr 2005 11:50
nice pub.
drumandmonkeyfan - 23 Feb 2005 10:27
Nothing to recommend this, unfortunately. If you want a pre or post-cinema pint or some food, go to the Swimmer at the Grafton Arms (or the Hercules Cafe). If you want real ale, no luck. If you want good conversation from friendly locals, move on.
A.B.R. - 15 Jul 2004 15:09
Not a bad pub at all. Run by a very friendly Irish guy..and have never seen a spot of bother in there yet. Watch out for the Pickford guys...take up a lot of room..lmao. Been there at night and while it can seem souless at times it is an ideal place for meeting someone as it can be so quiet it is easy to find them. Staff are always friendly too..especially one who shall remain nameless due to the fact he would die of embarassment but we lets just say that we loves Maud...lol.
rachel - 30 Apr 2004 00:31
This pub is quite frightening! not too bad if you are with other people, but i wouldn't be too keen on going in on my own after dark.
anyonebutmanu - 13 Jan 2004 16:28
Not a huge fan. Saw a bloke in here try to whack someone round the head with one of those massive heavy ashtrays before it was wrestled off him. Good points? Uhh... Always plenty of free seats.
Joe - 2 Dec 2003 16:16
It's a Holloway local, devoid of scene types and high prices. Key advantage for geeks: if you sit in the front window you can reach a wifi point nearby - the height of civilisation :-)
