Irish pub close to the station. It was very busy on my Sunday afternoon. Many were in watching the Ireland Six Nations game, whilst some were watching a Premier League game. There are multiple TVs for sports viewing. Staff and customers were friendly. The ales are Harvest Pale & Tribute. I'm surprised this place has had a couple of years in the last two Good Beer Guides. But, it was not a patch on my previous stop (the Gidea Park Micropub) and was also inferior to my subsequent stop (the Northcote Arms in Leytonstone). I will request for both of those to be added.

Terrific staff, friendly locals, reasonable pint price, great atmosphere (especially on match days) - and it's in Ilford!?! Hang on, are you sure?

Nope, it's true, Jono's Bar is on the high road, and would normally be missed by the shoppers in the nearby town centre (as it doesn't have a bus stop smack outside) - considering some of the other local watering holes (and I am serious about the term "hole"), this is one heck of a diamond in the rough.

Grailhunter's comments are spot on.

Good friendly atmosphere, excellent staff and good sports coverage - it's basically an old style local pub, the kind that the recession and themed pubs are killing off. Given the state of pubs in Ilford these days, Jono's is head and shoulders out front.

The signage outside states 'Jono's Bar and Restaurant' but this is basically a straightforward drinking establishment. I've never seen anyone eating food in here. I often stay at a hotel nearby and pop in here quite often for a couple. It's a good friendly place even though it doesn't look much from the outside. Bar staff are always efficient and the locals welcoming. They have sky sports and a large screen so it's a good place to watch football. No real ales unfortunately but that's the only negative thing about the place. Definitely the most comfortable place for a drink in Ilford town centre.
