Now reopened, this pub in the midst of Great Train Robbery land treads the fine line between gastro and country hostelry. On a warm April afternoon, the front garden was replete with drinkers enjoying the early 2015 warm spell; the inside packed with Easter weekend diners. A GK pub by stealth - the ubiquitous IPA was on tap - Upham's Punter was the other option but was unfortunately off. A bottle of Triple C went someway towards redressing the balance, along with a TV screen showing Watford v Middlesbrough, despite the limited area afforded for drinkers.

Visited with a friend from London last Thursday Lunchtime. Pub was empty, but it still took 40 minutes for our food to arrive after we ordered. Pretty average when it came and overpriced by about 2 / 3 per main course in comparison with other good pubs locally. (12.95 for small portion of fish and chips). Not much choice of real ale and again just that percentage more expensive than other local pubs. The setting is great and bar staff friendly, but I feel they would be busier if they came back down to earth a bit about prices and stopped resting on their 'gastropub' laurels. Times are hard.

Marvellous looking thatched building which could grace many a postcard. Clearly relies heavily on its food trade but the bar is comfortable enough if a little sedate. With only two standard (non-local) real ales on tap though, not worth a major detour for the serious beer drinker.

The quality of the food realy let down the venue. The mashed potato was lumpy, the french beans raw, the ends not even trimmed. The steak sirloin steak was of poor quality and had a large chunk of gristle. Steak and chips consisted of this poor cut of steak, 6 chips and a tiny garnish. Definitely not value for money. An expensive not pleasant night out.

Comfotable lovely looking pub with decent menu and beer on tap. nicest pub in the area, but maybe not the most happening atmosphere. Great for a lunch stop off or evening meal.

Arrived at the Old Swan having been denied even a serving of sandwiches at 14.05 by the Three Horseshoes up the road from here. 6 hungry and thirsty walkers anxious to spend a good bit of cash.

Excellent hot lunch ordered at 14.20 hours, excellent beer, served with a welcoming smile. Went out of their way to accommodate said walking party.

Well done, Old Swan! You certainly put the Three Horseshoes to shame and as a consequence you got a handy three figure sum of revenue which the TH could have had, had they had the interests of customers at heart.

Clearly the Old Swan is the better pub in Cheddington!

This great old country pub ticks all the boxes. It is well used by the locals, serving a good range of ales lagers and ciders. The St Austell Brewery Tribute Ale was in superb condition as was the Westons Stowford Press Cider. The staff are very attentive and could not be more obliging. The food is very good, we will return.

Since the new owners have taken over and I wrote my last review this pub has done a serious u-turn for the better! It is amazing how the atmosphere of a pub is so reliant on good landladies and landlords. This is now a pub you would want to take your family for a good value pub meal and I now have to book to get a table. The food is not outstanding but good pub food and after doing a pub crawl along the grand union, including this pub, it was clearly head and shoulders above the rest in terms of the quality of the beer which is kept very well.

A sunday lunch to die for! The meat was melting - portions here are really generous and the Ale is the best kept around these parts. Tribute and Adnams - Cheers Jeff and Helen!

The new owners have really made a dfference to this place! The atmosphere is vibrant and friendly and there is a great bloke there who is the Head Chef. He will find out what you want and cook to dietary needs. As I am celiac this has made a big difference to me and I can now eat a range of dishes. Thanks - I'll be a regular from now on!

A lovely old building in the nice village of Cheddington. I go here quite regularly as it's nearby. The food is more or less inoffensive standard pub grub and the beer is decent with a rotating guest beer on. Unfortunately that little special touch that makes a pub sparkle and that should come from the landlord and lady, is missing. My feeling is that the current incumbants do not enjoy running the pub and it shows. In summary its good for standard pub grub and a decent pint but nothing special and lacking that incentive to make you come back.

A wonderful old thatched building, and the beer was good, although no atmosphere as it was very quiet when I visited - I also did not stay long because of two large untethered dogs sniffing around our table continuously, which even if a place chooses to be dog-friendly, I do not agree with allowing.
