Three Horseshoes, Harpendenback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A phone call this morning from a friend in Harpenden informed me that sadly my prediction of last spring has come true. However I get no satisfaction from that. Considering the landlords run the Cricketers in Redbourn I had expected something different from the concept that failed last year. Like the Skew Bridge across the common a pub looking for the right person to manage it.

Popped in while on a long bike ride, though made it a half as it was not really the rough & ready place we were looking for, seems more set up for fine dining. Having said they had ale and it was in decent nick.

Was re-open when I was in the area at the weekend. Same model as before - i.e. expensive gastro pub. They always have well kept ales but no lower cost eating options. Warm summers evening a jacket (potaoto) and a side salad would be enough for many. I suspect that as gastro pub it has no real long term future.

Erm - now closed (again!) Something to do with a licence (or lack of) I believe.

Pleasantly surprised to find that this establishment has re-opened as a pub, rather than being a restaurant. It has a supurb location, real fires and is dog friendly.
There are three real ales available (Tring, Cumbria and Ringwood at the time of my visit ) all of which are well kept. However, these will change on a regular basis. The landlord appears to appreciate real ales, which is a good start.
Pub food is also availabe at reasonable prices.
Any business that reverses the trend of tuning pubs into eating houses deserves our suppot.

Called in on Sunday afernoon. Nice to see the old place open gain (many a happy spent here over the years!). It's most definately a restaurant rather than a pub, but I had a really excellent pint of Spitfire.
Hopefully, it will again become a target for weekend walks
