Fairly typical 'tarted-up' Southwest London pub, with minimalist decor and not enough proper seats. Having said that, the London Pride was OK, as was the small beer garden at the back.

Pleasant, affable staff & cosy feel to the place. And yes, the Hoegaarden (sic?) had ran out...
|
I love this place, althouh it could be cleaner.
|
Keeps running out of beer - not ideal for a pub!
|
Owners seem very pleasant, welcoming people, good atmosphere and there is a nice garden out back. I think Matthew is right that the furnishings could do with some thought as it is a bit sparse and not cosy enough.
|
Good selection of real ales. Not a regular here but made to feel very welcome by the staff.
|
A traditional pub that has tried to go modern by clearing the junk out and changing the furniture. Does not really work for me as the place just looked empty. Nothing wrong with the beer though.

Great pub for those long summer nights which we have unfortunatley been short of this year. Staff are very friendly and the new owners know what they are doing and have turned this pub around from what was a dreadful one a couple of years back. I found it very welcoming and the food excellent. Had the sunday roast which i couldnt finish as the portion was so big and great value for money. £10 for all that. A good selection of real ales that are well looked after and also a wide variety of lagers aswell. Gets my recommendation everytime im in the area.

How tragic! Given it's architecture and location, this could be a really great pub. But it's not. Indeed, out of the generally dismal choice of pubs in Kew, the Greyhound stands out as being especially bad.
Food is overpriced and usually very poor quality. They have aspirations to being a serious gastro-pub but whoever is responsible for their menu suffers from a deadly combination of overambition and incompetance. Can't even get the basics right, let alone the more complicated dishes. Usually 2-3 ales on tap, but often undrinkable. Worst of all though are the staff, who all seem to regard punters as being an unnecessary distraction from their own personal lives.
Pubs this bad don't deserve to survive, though sadly the lack of decent local competition means they probably will.

stripped wooden floors in a place stripped of personality (despite its superb location).

It is quite nice sitting outside The Greyhound on a nice summer’s day and overlooking Kew Green – Be careful of the cast iron tables though as they are a little unstable. The Lager has always been up to scratch but the food is a little pricey for my liking, especially when you think you are getting chips but end up with crisps… Last time I checked Kew wasn’t in America! It’s not the greatest of places, but it’s nice for a change every now and again.

I visited on saturday night having not been for a couple of years and found the place quite depressing. It is certainly no longer the lively pub i remember.
|
Went here because I couldn't get a table in the nearby Rose & Crown at a Sunday lunchtime. This place, meanwhile, was almost empty! Well it's a bit scruffy and laddish I guess. But full marks for the food (even if it is actually more expensive than the Rose!), the friendly staff (Hi Rachel), and the range of ales: Spitfire, Pride, Youngs Ordinary and Bombadier.

Not if you sit in the rear garden.
I like this place, gets the thumbs up from me!

Former Courage pub nicely situated on Kew Green. My visit was last Sunday afternoon. A difficult place to sum up in a single relatively brief visit. Has a reasonably "modern traditional" feel to it and seemed to be quite popular with both locals and visitors that afternoon. The bar area however has very few seats - surprising since food seems to be quite a big player here - and the large uncarpeted standing area gives it a bit of a chainy circuit pub feel. I fortunately managed to get an unoccupied stool to perch on looking out over the green by the large semi circular window. The beer was OK, but somehow this place lacks the warm cosy feel that I look for in a pub and, given the proximity of The Coach and Horses nearby, I can't see myself doing this one again for some time. Strictly one for outside drinking - when of course the inevitable wretched plastic glasses are required

Weird pub. One time it was full of rugby and rowing boys. The next it was full of what can only be described as the dregs from a swingers party for blind people in Hull. The landlord said he was too busy to get my wife a coffee. At the time there was no-one looking for a drink except me and the other bar staff were chatting to each other. Eventually I got a coffee full of grounds which was horrible. The food was poor as well. Somehow their conscience seems clear enough to charge £1 extra for a slice of processed cheese on a burger!. That's what I call a mark up!

What a nice pub. Situated on the green, still keeps a lot of the traditional feel how it used to be, especially compared to some of the other ones nearby. Would definitely recommend a visit.

This is a great pub. There is quite a range of beers on tap and they do food (including Kronenberg Blanc). Unfortunately it is a bit expensive. The seating is nice and the staff are friendly. It's a greta place for after work drinks.
|
A real gem of a find!! Right on Kew Green great views and a cracking atmosphere, we chilled in the garden last Sunday ate a great BBQ and were kept warm into the night because they have a covered and heated back garden.
|
I used to work at this pub and feel that when I started the pub was not in the condition that it has exceeded now , Chris has put a great touch to the environment and surroundings , since leaving last year the place has continued to go from strength to strength as the managers continue to thrive for perfection continue with the hard work guys you are doing a great job.

I have lived in Kew for over 10 years, and i have seen the ups and downs of this special little pub.But i can honestly say in the last few months since Melanie and Jason have taken over the pub has gone from strength to strength. The staff they have brought in are like a breath of fresh air,the happy atmosphere when you walk through the door, and the great new food menu.BBQ in the summer were great and the professional way they worked with KEW FAYRE in helping to keep the green free of cars was amazing,a great day i will never forget. What is it with the 2nd JUNE and JULY obviously never been in the pub,but 2nd JUNE probably been sitting in alot of BR waiting rooms.Im with you Roger 29th SEP off to the quiz tonight for another great night, keep up the good work loyal regular.

This place is great, the food excellent, the service is friendly ,efficient and courteous. The new management have really turned this pub around. Jason and Mel are very friendly, helpful, approachable and fun to be with. Monday night's quiz is light hearted and a good laugh everyone has a chance of winning a spot prize at the least. Ben, Elliot and Chris have a super bar and restaurant here - can't think what Richard P who posted on 2 July was talking about - was he in the same bar??

Had a fab Sunday lunch with some of my friends in the upstairs dining room. All of (all 14 of us) really enjoyed ourselves, food was really good, atmosphere super and the service was spotless. Everyone kept raving about the food - I think we tried pretty much all of the dishes and they were all equally suberb.

Fab pub, good food, nice chilled atmosphere and a great place to while away a few hours with your mates.
Love the summer barbies and even done a spot of celeb spotting there!! A great find

Lovely little pub with a really sweet beer garden out back. The food was also very good indeed - and not overpriced either - but the table service for upstairs was abysmal. We had to ask three times for water (consequently a friend who was driving had nothing to drink for 75% of the time). Could be very good indeed - but was very quiet on a Sunday lunchtime - no wonder really.

This used to be such a nice pub. I have been waiting for the new owners to pick up their game but after nearly 2 years they are still getting it all wrong. They must be made of money to be so dismissive of customers. Mind you, they don't spend much on cleaning or clearing ashtrays and empties...!

Picturesque setting, decent food be it in the impressive restaurant or the outdoor BBQ, and a cigar machine on the wall- classy pub that isn't ridiculously expensive that's limited only by the lack of bar space.

Like sitting in a BR waiting room.Food vastly overpriced and usually unavailable. Staff distant and terse - lights off, doors locked at 11.05! It can't decide if it's for locals or foodies, and as a result, is neither. Needs a big change if direction and some geniality.

Have just had a fantastic night in The Greyhounds' new upstairs Dining Room. The food was great(it seems they have a new chef)and the place was packed out.The wine list very interesting and well thought out and they serve a cracking pint of London Pride. They seem to have done the place up since the last time i was in and it works. At last an unpretentious and fun gastropub in Kew!

The problem with this pub is that the bar is only five metres long. It's a small pub and locals tend to like to sit at the bar. The net result is that if the place is at all busy it is murder to get a drink and the place transforms into the tube during rush hour. Nice decor though.
nick - 16 Feb 2004 20:37 |
You will get very lonely drinking here. The place has died, customers deserted in droves, it would be kinder to close it and put it out of it's misery.

The Greyhound is in Kew, over Kew Bridge heading south, first left, you can't miss it. A glorious and character filled pub with fine beers, wine and dining facilities. It has a lovely view over Kew Green and tranquil beer garden to while away those summer evenings (well it beats sitting in rush hour traffic on the South Circular at any rate). It appears a new chef has been installed and he has created an excellent and varied, if not cheap, menu for both lunchtime and dinner.
As well as a fine wine list they also have one of the largest selections of whiskies and rums i've seen in a London pub.

It was painted a while ago and studying the before and after pictures I reckon the place looked better before they ripped up the carpets and painted the walls white. Not as bad as that sounds but not too good either. Good for: Sunday afternoons with the papers

Fantastic place for a pint and a bite to eat. Great selection of beers served in a professional and friendly way. Just the place to escape from the noise and bustle of the city.
