please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I thought this was a great pub. I see that there are a few bad experiences with food but our food was great.
We were not intending on eating but were told at the bar that they had started a new menu and asked if we would like to have a look. We were a little dubious at first but were pleasantly surprised at both the quality and quantity. The wine menu was good and prices really good for the area.

Rubbish. We ordered a platter for 12.99 and it was ridiculously small. A quarter of a sausage, some old lettuce leaves, burnt white sliced bread (rustic apparently), and not much else.

It's like a horrid All Bar One but not as good.

had lunch in here , not good at all , I have been in here a few times but this was a particularly bad visit , slow service, short poured pints and generally not good at all. this place should be the best in town , the site is amazing but it allways seems to struggle to to get out of the lower divisions.

After the madness that central London often throws up this bar is a great place to unwind and catch your breath. A well priced wine list, lovely fresh menu and friendly attentive staff all make it a place well worth a visit. You'll definitely be back!

Tell your friends...really friendly helpful staff who actually give table service...even just for drinks!Mellow vibe, good tunes and comfy ambience. Pretty busy on Friday night (we thought the doorman was great, opened the door for us as we arrived and left and wished us well) but an awesome place to chill away the weekend. Brisk and decent lunch service during the week too.

After a booked party we were frog marched out at 11.15 pm my fiance politely voices his concern only to be set upon by the terrier at the door. One second were all enjoying the end of my birthday night, the next I sobbing as this Neanderthal pins my fiance to the floor in the middle of Wardour Street.

I, and all my friends, and all their friends shall never go to this bar again. The beer is fine, the staff behind the bar are efficient but the brain-dead monkey meat at the door is now being investigated following my report to the Police and Security Industry Authority (SIA). Be warned.

I like this boozer, perfect to go to to escape oxford street and all the chaos that it brings. During the day it is comfortable and relaxed, in the evenings it gets livelier, perhaps a bit busy, but it does empty out during the week as the evening progresses as the workers go home.
It also attracts some of the better looking women of the world, which has to be a plus.

Was here for a friend's 32nd birthday and was nearly refused entry for looking under 21 (I am 30 in a few months). Very frustrating trying to convince the patronising doorman/owner that I haven't needed ID for the last 10 years. Friend's sister was refused entry for being 29 year old too. If you bother to come here then bring ID even if you look much older than 21 as apparently they are looking for a "certain type of person" to frequent this pub. In my opinion seeing how empty it was on a saturday night they need all the people they can get!

Was here on a Friday eve around this time last year. Remember it being very busy with local workers. Decent enough place, good atmosphere - was very smoky though!

Was disappointed and confused at the lack of namesake seating but an otherwise OK pub (well, more of a bar really truth be told) but nothing special. Full of London workers winding down after a day at the office so not at all touristy.

Standard beer prices for Soho (3.20 for a pint of Kronenbourg). I must congratulate them on their chips too, I'm not really a chip fan but these are bloody delicious, some of the best I've ever had. Good service, pleasant staff. Liked the toilets, nicely done. WAY too smokey tho, seriously need to address the ventilation issues.

Great food, fast service, best pint of Guinnes I've had in a long while. Koronenburg Blanc on tap too. Nice and relaxed, ideal lunching location, modern and better (in some ways) than close alternatives

A great place to chill out after a hard days shopping!

A regular meeting place for me and my pals. The reason being that it is a chilled place where people of all sexual persuasions, dress-senses etc can happily meet under one roof for a natter.

The Couch is cool the food is great and the staff are yummy. Get a life to the person who always criticizes probably feel embarrassed as they are sitting on his or her own. What we call in the trade a billy no mate - rate 7/10 for the pub

I was taken to the Couch by some friends the last time I visited London. I had bangers and mash (lovely, watery onion gravy the only let-down), and a few pints of Guinness. It was a lovely quiet place to watch the world go by. Sometimes pubs like this shine in the daytime, so I'd give it a hearty recommendation as a lunchtime venue. It is hard to eat if you're in the low table in the corner though.

Yes, I rather like The Couch too. Nice barstaff, the food is good and a nice general atmosphere.

So there!

I, Rich, am an ex "media shout-whore" and as a result am very centrally placed to comment on your favourite emporiums. Please feel free to email me personally and I will snail mail you an autograph. Continue to frequent these places safe in the knowledge that I will always be on hand to dispense these nuggets of gold that will help you get on in life or waste your money, depending on how you view it.
Ruby - 26 Jul 2003 01:34
Who is this 'Ruby' person that keeps slagging off every pub I seem to click on? "Media shout-whores"? Oh, you mean people who are richer and more trendy yourself perhaps? Anyway, The Couch is actually a pretty cool place. Comfy seats, relaxed atmosphere, no knob-head aggro kids. It's not the cheapest but you get a good view of the passing totty!

Directly next to the Bath House pub and separated by Fareham Street, the Couch has been revamped from an average bar full of me-me-media ninnies to a more salubrious bar full of unbearable media shout-whores.

Last time I went there, the large seats were so low and comfy (and my mates dull) that I dozed off - in my defence, I had been on a pretty large bender - when the bouncer woke me up and told me to either wake up or piss off. To this day, I can never quite rationalise if he was being perfectly fair or utterly petty.

Anyway, it's an overpriced crowded shithole full of loud annoying gitflaps. Give your money to the numerous nearby beggars instead.
