Situated in Hope Square and right opposite the old Devenish Brewery this pub has a nice aspect with seating outside at the front it was a very pleasant to be on a warm sunny afternoon. My pint of Jurassic Ale was a tadge warm but still acceptable with Butcombe Bitter and Hop Back Summer Lightning also available (plus a couple of standard brews). I would agree that the service lacked sparkle and enthusiasm and we got our drinks efficently enough but without any passion or commitment to customer service (I hate it when a barman stands and just stares at you, waiting for you to say the first words! He/she should welcome the customer into the pub and help them with their selection of drinks and food - this pub failed miserably on that score). "Could try harder" would be my school report!

The barman was about as unwelcoming as it is possible to be. The pub itself is clean, the beer was reasonably good, the food was advertised on a silly pretentious menu. Pubs in Weymouth are closing fast unless the ambience/chip on shoulder attitude changes then this will become another closure. 5/10but reduced to zero for the silly attitude.

A visit mid afternoon found the pub nearly totally bereft of customers. Barman - landlord? - not exactly pleased to see us which is a surprise thinking that he probably needs the custom. Five ales on including a grudgingly served superb pint of Jurassic from nearby Dorset Brewing Company. Also tried the Red Lion ale which was also good and Skinner's Betty Stogs. Tastefully done out with lots of wood and maritime paraphernalia. Mrs Dandillus (senior version) said it the place could have done with a good dust, but she also says that when she visits us so nothing to worry too much about there. All in all, a very nice pub with excellent ales. A quick course in good customer service and could be even better.

We sat outside - I've never seen so many dogs outside a pub - and my dear wife immediately put her sleeve in some bird poo, which didn't endear her to the place, what with that and the 'dirty' toilet. I couldn't care less: It is a traditional boozer selling good ale. I had the Cotleigh's, which was nice.

vast improvement over my visit at this time last year. several real ales on sale mostly local. I went fo JURASSIC Bitter which was mid strength and at first had a strange taste. but quickly got used to it and it was really quite pleasant. This pub is in Brewer Quay which is a cobbled area and a sun trap. Very popular and difficult to get a seat outside if the sun is out.

In need of decoration outside (scafolding put up after easter) the main attraction of this pub is location and large seating area outside. It is in the Brewers Quay areay wich is traffic free. Had a nice pint of Greene King IPA for £2.35 and a Pint of Adnams Broadside which was a bit stronger at 4.7%. so tried a Weymouth brew called JD which I am afraid I was not keen on. As superseagulls mentioned the place can be full of Kids and pushchairs. Ther are better pubs in the area such as The George Inn (just across the water) and The Nothe Tavern up the hill a bit.

If you like kids running around the place while your trying to have a drink/meal then this is the place for you.
Rubbish pub.

Can't believe this pub has more comments. A very welcoming house serving a good range of local and not so local brews. A fantastic venue for a warm summers evening sat outside supping good beer served by friendly staff. Have visited the Lion during my visits to Weymouth for many years and can say I have never had a bad pint.

Excellent pub with excellent ales and a warm welcome. The pub stands opposite the old brewery which is now Brewers Quay (where the welcome isn't as warm, or the beers as well-kept). I had a pint each of the Bombardier, FortyNiner, JD1742 and Chesil - all of which were top notch. The food was good value with decent portions and reasonably priced, although the menu consists of ordinary pub grub and could do with a bit of inspiration.
