Huge pub just off the A25 near Seal. Big range of food available. It all seemed good and reasonably priced, especially if you go midweek when the carvery is only £5.95. Staff all falling over themselves to be helpful. Several beers on pump, I had the Westerham 'Spirit of Kent' which was fine.

Went here for the first time today. One person in our party was in a wheelchair. 1st no disable parking, but not a big problem. Then two lots of stairs to carry the wheelchair down, not good, third, none of us like rare meat and that was what was on offer, so we left. Can't comment on the beer. The waitress was polite and tried to help but don't go here with anyone in a wheelchair!

Dubious about visting this pub after a disasterous visit last year, and reading about it in the local rags... But heard The Crown has a new manager... all I've got to say is a vast improvement has been made... Beers are well kept & the food & service is much improved, however, don't expect much conversation from the carving chef!

It is in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide because when it was surveyed (January 2011) the pub was regularly serving good beers in excellent condition. CAMRA is aware that there have been changes at this establishment since, and the 2013 Guide will take account of this...

You're right, mtaylor, it is there! I couldn't believe it, so I just went and checked, and there it is in the 2012 edition. Why indeed? The only beer I've tried there was almost undrinkable. Perhaps we've both just been unlucky - but I suspect not....

Very quiet on a Sunday night, reflected in warmish Harveys and a complete lack of atmosphere. No idea what the food is like, but looked more Brewers Fayre than the smart Kent restaurant I'd expected. Why is it in the Beer Guide ?

I thought I would give this a try. Food acceptable and well priced. The beer was awful. My advice would be to drive past next time and turn left down to the Padwell for a classic pub lunch or The Snail if you are feeling flush, or go to the Old House on Redwell Lane Igtham as it always has superb beer. I will not be back

The only way to get here is to drive, as it's on A25 in middle of no-where, but once there the beer was good and a couple of decent ales to choose from.

Visited this Pub 29th Oct 2010 as meeting place for lunch with view to having carvery. The service, and atmosphere in the bar prior to going to the restaurant area was excellent. The choice of 3 ales was great and well kept. The food and service at the carvery were outstanding. Highly recommended.

I hadn't been to this pub for about 20 years but thought I would give it a try, The staff seemed pleasant and happy to help and the beer was very good, Un-fortunately the food was very slow in coming the starter took over 40 minutes to turn up and when the steaks were served they were both over done, what made matters worse was that the chips were under cooked and inedible. I did mention this to the waiter and he agreed that they looked under done but didn't offer to do anything about it, I paid the Bill and left, Ill give it another 20 years and try again.
Sad Because this Pub appears to be independent and could do with local support, maybe I caught them on a bad day.

Dropped in the other day because we'd heard that it had changed hands and was much improved. I don't know whether either of these things is true, but if it's improved, it must have been pretty dire before. Of course, we didn't eat there, which means that our experience hardly allows a fair assessment of the place, because eating's what it's all about, with staff hovering to show you to your table as you walk in. That said, there is still quite a large area devoted to drinkers, but all done out in the soulless style typical of this kind of eatery. They had three cask beers on, all local (which is to their credit); however the Nelson beer that I tried was practically undrinkable; I should have sent it back, but I'm always reluctant to do that on a first visit anywhere, and frankly, by the time I'd even sat down, all I wanted to do was to get out. Definitely not for me.

Popped in here yesterday for a Sunday lunch after visiting nearby Igitham Mote(highly recommended). We had the best Sunday lunch we had had for a very long time. The meat was very well cooked and the vegetables were lovely and fresh. Also the meal was hot, which can be a bit of a rarity these days. We also ordered a fish and chips for our son off the kids menu which was OK, though the chips weren't brilliant,I think they possibly need to change their deep-frying oil. Also had two very tasty puddings which came in generous helpings.
Service was very good and friendly and the food and drink was reasonably priced. Only one worrying thing, why is the place so quiet?

Ales on tap were Harveys Best (2.80) and Adnams Best and Explorer. Vast open pub with big garden but sadly almost empty like in the 'land that time forgot'. Off the main road and probably struggling a bit in current climate like the rest of them. On plus side service was good and Harveys was looked after. Not try the food so no report there.
