Shocked how much this has gone downhill....what has gone wrong with the RP.

Went here for the first time a week ago on my visit to Gravesend.. Not sure why I hadn't visited before especially as I'd been to the Three Daws just along the road.
As with the Daws the pub is large with maritime memorabilia on the walls and a view of the Thames from the area out the back of the pub.
There is a solid old fashioned feel to the pub.
The lady behind the bar was friendly and helpful.
There were half a dozen or more real ales available (an improvement on the Three Daws), including Draymans Droop, Westerham Grasshopper & NW Western pal Ale.
The Grasshopper was very tasty!
Will definitely visit here next time I'm in town.

The Rum Puncheon is a lovingly restored old fashioned pub with 7 hand pumps that on my visit had 5 ales on with all of them bring offerings from Kent breweries. I had a couple of very good pints of Tonbridge’s Union Pale Ale @ 4.7%.

The interior is spartan with wooden flooring throughout, at the top end of the bar are several chandeliers that nicely compliment the stain glass windows, unfortunately since the post by Snarling_Mallard on 12th April 2015 the large window is still broken and boarded up and the front door is still not used to enter or exit the pub.

Half a dozen punters in when we arrived mid-afternoon with 2 people finishing off their lunch which looked pretty good.

The very friendly and chatty barmaid rounded off this visit nicely, the Rum Puncheon is a pub that I will aim to return to next time I’m in Gravesend.

Still a decent alehouse. Seemed as bit more run down then when I was here last time (no access through front door, large window broken) but it kind of added to the character and made it feel more of a proper boozer.

Best pub in Gravesend! Fine range of ales, served well by friendly, welcoming staff. Had two very nice pints of Adnam's Ghost Ship, which I'd never found on tap before locally. Large bar at front was filled with lunch-time diners enjoying some decent looking food (didn't order lunch myself). Adjoined to the garden at the rear, which sits under a lovely, large tree, and appears to form part of the Elizabeth Gardens pedestrian thoroughfare along the river, so no views from the seating owing to the high sea wall, but nonetheless a very pleasant retreat from the town centre. It's a good enough reason to return to Gravesend, certainly by day- no idea if the clientele and atmosphere are any different by night. I hope it exercises a stringent door policy to keep out the yobs that spoil Gravesend for normal people.
Overall, this pub and the surrounding area are set to benefit from much needed redevelopment in the main town. I hope it doesn't change the pub though, as it's good enough as it is.

Inexplicable attempt to gentrify the drug-soaked pub clientele of Gravesend. Please! Sharp interiors, subtle lighting and feature walls will only enrage the degenerate populace of this circle of Kentish hell. They reject modernity and, indeed, pelt buses as the unacceptable face of progress.

Good pub, good choice of ales.
Staff not as friendly as they were when we first came in 8 months ago, all the good ones have left.
Still, great atmosphere and friendly clientel.

Spent a very relaxing afternoon in here. I don't know why we haven't tried it before. There were plenty of good ales to choose from, at reasonable prices, very decent food, which was made for us even though they had officially stopped serving - which is unusual in this day and age. The staff were very friendly and on hand if you needed them - and were not in your face when you didn't. Lovely pub, and looking forward to visiting again very soon.

The ale is always first class with 8 pumps available most of the the time, the choice is yours. The staff will always let you sample the ale so please ask don't be shy. Never had a poor pint to date, first class ale at reasonable prices.

Best pub and best pint of the day. A nice old style high ceilinged pub which has been reasonably refurbed with 8 different ales on. The Kent Cobnutt was an excellent pint. Gravesend's best alehouse by far.

What a change (for the better!) from the days of the New Falcon. This is an excellent pub for a quiet and relaxing drink. Think I had Kent Brewery Zingibier, and quality was spot on. Definitely recommended. The owners also run the Park Tavern in Eltham and The Pullman in Folkestone and they are very good pubs as well.

WELL KEPT ALES AND A FAIR SELECTION AS WELL, THE MENU IS NOT MASSIVE BUT VERY INTERESTING AND GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY, THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT AND THE PLACE HAD A NICE ATMOSPHERE,I THINK THE CROWN AND THISTLE HAS GOT SOME SERIOUS COMPETITION AT LAST!

Tried this for the first time over August BH weekend. Great decor and excellent selection of Real ales.

Shame about the atmosphere, or lack of it!!

Well worth a visit though and will give it another go.

Unbelievable! My last visit to this town saw this pub in it's former incarnation as the New Falcon which was to my mind a rough old joint where only bottled beer would be a safe bet. Now it's gone all posh! Chandliers and wrought iron lamps and when we were there classical music. I felt under-dressed in my scruffy shorts and out of place as we were on a lads pub crawl, but the pub was very welcoming and the beer range was excellent. We sampled several excellent real ales and the helpful bar-maid let my lager drinking mate try a couple. Very interesting and it is great to see a pub done up in a different style, I hope it works out well for the owners.

Lovely pub with 6 ales on offer. Tried the Landlord and Tribute and both excellent. Friendly efficient staff.
They now do food and although I didn't eat those that were dining looked well contented.

A truly great experience. Unassuming pub from the outside, beautifully decorated inside, spacious and welcoming. Six ales on when I visited including Pride, Dark Star Pale Ale, Gravesend Shrimpers, TEA and Moorhouse's Old Boss. A quality selection. Without doubt the sweetest pub in Gravesend.

This pub has recently been refurbished and renamed, under new ownership.
All memories of the smoke fogged New Falcon are thankfully extinguished. Now renamed the Rum Puncheon. Six real ales were available on my visit and all the beer was top notch. If you are having a real ale crawl in Gravesend this pub, so far, should be on your list. No food at the moment though so eat first !
