A proper drinkers pub with quite an array of ales.
Jail Ale, Butcombe Gold, Otter Ale, Yellow Hammer, Courage, Directors, Harvey's Best and Exeter Bry Darkness.
One downside was the annoying pub dog when trying to eat.

A few good ales on which is a rarity in Torquay.

However they did seem a little expensive for the area.

Interesting interior and a pleasant beer garden out the back.

The place was ok not somewhere I would go out of my way for but had for real ale this is the best pub in the area.

6/10

A real gem of a pub. Had a choice of 6 ales when I was there, and had the added bonus of having a cider festival on to cater for my brother. All in all, vey happy with this charming place.

Great pub, smashing landlord, let down a bit by mediocre quality beers. Went twice so no fluke. Cloudy Betty Stoggs, debatable Old Hookey and average Tribute. Another day and the beer could have been great. Don't be too put off, I would still go back for the charm and banter.

I would agree with the other comments - this place is a real find (a 32 bus will take you nearby) - good beer and an excellent atmosphere helped by the bric-a-brac. It's handy for the football ground and Babbacombe Model Village/Cliff Railway. Well worth the effort to get there.

A grand pub with excellent beers, decorated with (as reported) weird memorabilia. A real pleasure to find in a tourist town, where pubs seem to be either deafening pick-up joints or staid hotels. Friendly staff and locals and even a pleasant small garden out back (quite a surprise when one sees the pub frontage). The people of Torquay are in safe hands.

Wonderful traditional pub with low beams and a unique collection of caps and chamber pots suspended from ceiling. Excellent home-cooked food (including hot chilli) Mon-Sat lunchtimes and an interesting range of real ales. Friendly welcome. Everything you could want from a pub.

A 'real' pub. There was a good variety of ales on and they know how to keep them. Friendly locals with a convivial atmosphere

Enjoyed our visit to this pub chatting to staff and locals while looking at the chamber pots etc on the ceiling, and reading some of the items on the wall. A true locals pub and one you would go back to while visiting. Enjoyed a Teignworthy, Exe Valley and Badger beer while looking round.

Fine Ale well kept.. Small and compact "traditional" pub..
Ordering a half was greeted with "A half??.. I have a living to make !" Upgraded to a pint!! This is what pubs should be like, not been in when the Jazz is on but have been told its excellent..
A drinkers pub..without being a drunks pub..

If you like pubs where time appears to have stopped a few years ago, this would suit you. Lots of weird memorabilia around, from floor to ceiling! Two separate rooms, very well kept ales and lots of character. Brilliant!

lovely traditional pub. Lots of "memorabilia" on display.
you could spend most of your visit just looking around!
lots of character. very popular with locals.
regular jazz nights.
8 cask ales to choose from.
bit pricey, but goes with the territory.
