user reviews of the Snooty Fox, Three Bridges

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The whole point of the site is for people to express an opinion - some may disagree with mine but I am not changing my views because locals are not happy with it. I understand that people can get upset and become protective about their local but you can't describe the place as a cosy pub. It's a busy chain pub done out to Greene King's usual pub/eatery spec I only dived in because it started raining heavily. It's okay for what it is but it isn't anything remarkable and it ain't going to win any awards. If you think the comment is unfair then you can always report it for removal.

Have to laugh at some of the reviewers here. Particularly the last one. What can you know about a pub if you are only in for a half and you disappear for a train. I think some reviewers should take a look at themselves and realise that pubs are not for the guys ticking of boxes they are for the locals / community.. I have been here and it has good beer. Maybe not to Snarlings liking but still well presented and friendly staff and more importantly customers.

identikit GK pub - it's handy for a swift pint before a train and that's about it. Only GK ales so had a lager instead.

Opposite Three Bridges Station, so this pub is ideal for a beer before and after your train journey. Nice choice of beers, quite a large food menu and friendly staff. They show quite a few football and rugby matches, which you can watch on the many telly screens dotted around the place. There is a large decking area out the back where you can smoke and tables out the front where you can sit and smoke also. Live bands perform most Saturday evenings.

Been in on 2 occasions now where there have been football matches on. Depending on how popular the game is (which seems like any England, Premier league or Champions league game), they stop doing food (correction, you can get a greasy cheeseburger and/or a paper plate of chips swimming in what purports to be curry sauce but is actually more reminiscent of dishwater both in appearance and flavour). So if there's football on and you want to eat, make sure you get there way before the game starts or go and eat elsewhere.

Now in terms of compliments, the beer's OK but then I drink lager, which is hard to harm. I thought the staff comments were a bit unwarranted as I've always found them reasonably friendly without being gushy (which I hate).

All in all, not the best pub in the Crawley area (from a pretty limited field) - that honour goes to the Old Punchbowl in the High Street - but it is just outside the 3B station so is handy (and if you want real dives that are totally food free, go to the next nearest ones).

Cheap and cheerful, convenient for the station.
jfrebrycn - 23 Aug 2011 19:29
My parents live just down the road from this pub, always go here.
It's your typical commuter pub really, Pleasant and do fairly good food.

Friday evening can be very busy and find it hard to get a seat.

Definitely worth a visit if in the area, but I wouldn't travel there especially for this place.

The best thing that could happen to this pub is demolish it and start again! It could be such a great pub, great passing place, people meeting up before taking the train etc.

But instead it's full of chavs n work dodgers who's only aim in life is to get drunk as quickly as possible! The food is cheap, but thats only because it comes straight from the deep fat fryer or microwave!! Staff don't care a less, but that could be because of the 'customers' they have to deal with on a daily basis!

Move the chavs n grandads and dads pretending to be 20 again, to the jubilee oak or brewery shades.. And start again! I find it hard to believe that this place hasn't been raided by the police, given the amount of under aged kids and druggies in there! Mind you I'm scared to go in there, so wouldn't be surprised if they felt the sane... I wouldn't blame em

What a dump! More like an amusement arcade with mediocre beer served by mediocre staff who are more interested in finding reasons not to serve you than to satisfy their customers; they only seem to be content when customers leave.

Never again will I be visiting this pathetic excuse for a pub.
trike_boy - 4 Oct 2010 21:02
Went to the Snooty to watch England v USA (as we had done for all the qualifying games) only to be told that they refused to serve Guinness because it took too long to pour. Given that other beers were either 'off' or mediocre to say the least we won't be back. Great customer service!

Forgot to mention in my previous entry about the huge dog. The dog whose owner was so disinterested in him that the dog had to empty his bowels in the pub, poor thing.

Upon arriving at Three Bridges, looking for a pub to wait for a lift, my first words were 'I ain't going in there'. I did go in, and would love to say that my first thoughts were wrong, but no. I found this pub to be full of marauding males, ageing guys acting like teenagers, awful beer and a highly unwelcoming feel. While the ale was just about drinkable, the amount of swearing, attitude and general distaste was at a very high level, but enough about me, the clientle were even worse. In summary, a shocking hell hole that I have rarely encountered in the last 20 years, apart from the pubs in King's Lynn.

i found the evening staff very surly and a smile wouldnt go astary. As for the food if you like it fried you will love it . Cheap and nasty , The chef looks drunk 99% of the time . Ok for quick drink when going on somewhere better.

I spotted this pub when I got off a hot sticky rail replacement service from Brighton. The first thing that struck me was the name was at odds with its appearance. The Snooty Fox brings visions of a thatched building in a picturesque village frequented by the hunting, shooting and fishing set. This looks more like a modern Weatherspoons. Anyway I crossed the road and went it. It was fairly quiet and the staff (well all one of them) were pleasant enough. I had a couple of pints of ice cold lager in order to cool off and replenish my fluid balance. It does not seem particularly friendly - a bit like a railway station pub in fact. I would pop in here again but I would not go out of my way.

MikeTheMechanic - 7 May 2009 18:57
This pub used to be ok for a couple of pints or to watch the football. The standards, which weren't that good to start with, have not improved. I suspect that the brewery don't really mind as it seems to be a bit of a money spinner no matter what. I, however, do mind the fact that there seems to be a rougher element drifting into the pub who don't seem to be content with alcohol so I won't be going back again.
OLDUN - 27 Sep 2008 15:11
Right on the road, The Fox is the first pub you see as you step out of Three Bridges Station. An old building, built around the same time as the Station, it was an important staging Inn on the route between London and Brighton. Good, basic pub, two bars, spartan public and a little more comfortable Saloon. Basic Whitbread ales available, the Fremlins is OK, but personally, I always go for the bottled Pale Ale.
FFrederickSkitty - 11 Jul 2008 19:26
Don't bother with the food, check on arrival. Sign outside stating food available then when you try to place an order it's off, no one available to cook it, chef not arrived
anonymous - 7 Jun 2008 08:04
Its so posh in here, they serve the food on plates!
ken_barlow - 26 Feb 2008 19:50
It seems that my first impressions were incorrect. It would seem that the "management style" is one of intimidation rather than encouragement. Also a rather curious way of asking people to drink up, a rather feeble looking old man shouts at people as soon after 11 as possible followed by an older lady telling her customers (ie the people who pay her wages) to drink up and **** off. However, it's on my doorstep so I can put up with it as long as they keep the 2 meals for 1 deal going and obviously as long as I **** off as soon as the clock strikes 11.
OLDUN - 11 Jan 2008 17:59
Just moved to the area, seems a resonable pub so far. Not sure about some aspects of it though. Management and staff seem to be missing something, maybe a sense of team work? Too much shouting and dummy spitting? Also not sure who's meant to be in control.
OLDUN - 7 Jan 2008 19:29
The best chips available to man or beast. I like to have mine with lashings of salt and vinegar, flying in the face of common misconceptions of the dangers of high sodium intake. Taff, your fried potato comestibles are ace, and your chips are pretty darn good too. Best washed down with a bottle of house white, ridiculously priced at 7.75. For the connoisseur, there is a selection of sauces available in easy-to-open ready packs, ranging from tomato, brown (mmm delish) to more esoteric varieties, such as salad cream and sauce tartare, very good with chips. Also, do NOT forget the heroic proportions and portions of the Mixed Grill, which has defeated many a trencherman. Taxi Rank opposite outside three bridges train station to ferry the inebriate.
cdare123 - 13 Dec 2007 16:08
Handy for the station if you're going down Brighton or coming back from London. Large interior and lots of TV's. Wine is quite reasonably priced, and food cheap and quick to arrive and good quality.
anonymous - 12 Nov 2007 16:57
Vast improvement since the smoking ban. Barmaids very friendly and overall excellent service. Probably too much footie for my liking, but this is a sports bar after all. Probably gets busy in the eves, but way after my bedtime. Hot cocoa and slippers brigade, me.
I rate the chips very highly. I could't finish the Mixed Grill!
cdare123 - 12 Nov 2007 16:53
Taff does the best chips now, though.....

I went here on the night of the rugby world cup final so it was quite busy, but that doesn't excuse the bar maid for calling me a cheeky b******d when all I did was ask for her to change the drink she gave me for the one I asked for! It was quite loud so maybe she mis-heard my order, she then proceded to give me a lecture on how to place an order correctly whilst telling her working collegues not to serve me again!
Stressful time for them - yes, but they need to work on customer service, I won't be back and nor will anyone I can warn!
Geedog - 21 Oct 2007 16:01
Good pub if you are a builder/plasterer that enjoys football amd a beer after work on a friday evening. Can get very noisy and smokey, thank god for the smoking ban! Bar service is pretty poor especially when busy. Bar prices reasonable.

anonymous - 14 Aug 2007 15:45
Drink there most weekday nights on the way home. It's convenient, but on the downside, a typical Crawley "Estate Pub" i.e. not terribly friendly, you have to go there all the time to get recognised, there are some very dubious characters on the fringes, but all in all it's o.k.

Football pub - boring for the rest of us. Staff, when they can hang on to them, do their job well. Lack of communication at the top can lead to feeling of alienation from mere mortals sipping pints.

Peter does the best chips, and soon, I believe, there will be some superb home made curries for which I supplied the recipes.

Ooops - looks like I'm gonna be banned!
anonymous - 8 Jun 2007 16:41
Seemed alright during the day - couple of nice looking bar maids.

Visited The Snooty Fox with my Girlfriend for a quick drink midweek early evening. Not a bad environment; was a little disappointed with the decor as the outside looks very new and fashionable. The atmosphere was friendly and the bar staff efficient. Beer was reasonable (taste and price). Not a bad place for a quick drink but probably not the best evening out.
srdale123 - 9 Apr 2007 20:20
GREAT PUB, QUICK SERVICE, FRIENDLY PUB

BUSY ON FRIDAYS! DEF A PLACE TO GO
CrawleyLezza - 16 Dec 2006 13:12
I got Banned from here the first Day it opened..told by the Manager that "we dont serve your sort in here".Never been back.
PBI - 2 Oct 2006 18:27
The Snooty Fox is a good pub with decent food and although the prices are high they do an offer 2 meals for 8 i think. Has a friendly Irish manager and has always had friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Only minor problems are prices could be a bit cheaper and the pool table is not in an ideal situation but all in all a great place to spent a few hours before hitting the town
stuclarke21 - 26 Jul 2006 13:04
Not a pub, to take your parents. Or anyone you care for.
Ant - 6 Mar 2005 08:39
great pub for live footie atmosphere, food great, beer not bad either, great for a livener before hitting brighton or the city.
sledgehammer - 19 Dec 2004 11:13
The lighting in the place is about a subtle as an MFI warehouse. Take some sunglasses
Steve - 29 Jun 2004 14:53
Only fit birds are the ones that normally work behind the bar, but even that standard has slipped recently. Beer ok, best thing about the place is its a convienent starting place before heading into town. (Taxi rank opposite)
Graham - [email protected] - 27 May 2003 17:07
Since new Manager arrived two changes, karaoke added every couple of weeks (sunday's) YUK ! and the only "proper" beers 6X and Bass seem to run out on a regular basis so if you like lager and awful singing this is the place for you ! (a new T.V. screen has just been added so footie coverage has improved)
He who sits with the good the bad and the ugly !ho - 10 Mar 2003 18:12
good music, oldies ya know? nice bar staff and and relaxed atmosphere. nice place
jack - 31 Oct 2002 16:32
It's a really great pub for the "pre-med" drinks before getting the train to nightclubs in Brighton and London. It's also a super local and has moderatly priced drinks.
Joe - 6 Oct 2002 01:35
Ha, ha. The pub's name is actually a joke: there was a pub nearby just called 'The Fox' but they demolished it because every psycho, injector and bail jumper got in there. (Now they've dispersed to every other pub in Crawley.) So the Snooty is a gleaming, respectful and entirely charmless update of what went before.
Hermes Trismegistus - 5 Jul 2002 17:54
