More like a restaurant than a pub, Dark Star OK, staff friendly enough.

Astonished to hear brucelambert charged 24 to bring his birthday cake in - really ? Sounds like one for the press to me.

Three visits in the last 6 weeks , twice for meals and once for a beer.

Superb food, great beer try the Dark Star Over the Moon if its on, Hophead as a fall back.

Nice location, great beer garden in a very quiet village. Good staff to look after you, what more can you ask for? Just dont look down as you come through the main door. The well is deep.

Latest visit was with a group of 11 people and the chef still managed to get the food to the table at the same time, with no issues. The menu changes regularly and there is always a different Sunday lunch menu. The roast beef is to die for. I really do envy the folks of Warninglid who have this as a local

I cant understand why this place is so popular.
It used to be good when it started but has become overpriced and the service has deteriorated.
I recently went for Sunday lunch with a large group. We were charged 24 for a birthday cake which we brought ourselves to the restaurant. When one of us objected she was told she was now barred. The Manager was so unpleasant that none of us will ever go back again.
The food was good on this occasion (if overpriced) and the service fair but the previous two meals I have had there were dreadful and I only went this time because our Walking group wanted to meet there. One to avoid.

Looks good from the outside. Neat and contrived decor on the inside. Reasonable food but over priced. Beer was uninspiring, nothing from local breweries. Shame!

Is this pub still owned by Mark and Chris White? Is Matt still the chef?

This pub was not quite what I expected. It's primarily an eating establishment. Although the same 3 beers mentioned by GuideDogSaint are still on. Cider is Symonds Founders Reserve. The interior has been modernised. But an old well can still be seen through a glass panel. The rear garden is large and probably very nice in summer. It features a set of stocks. The gents toilets are also outside. A very commercial experience that was disappointing.

Old Speckled Hen, Harveys Sussex Best and Dark Star Over The Moon. Gastro pub, even the bar at the back where the handpumps are had tables set out for eating. Tossers in for a wedding didn't help. Generally seemed OK .

Four of us went there for lunch on 31st March, and found the menu somewhat restricted. My friend and I ordered 'Grilled South Coast mackerel on a bed of tomatoes and fennel, with crushed new potatoes' priced at 14.50. The dish comprised of 4 slivers of mackerel measuring approx. 70mm x 30mm, whereas I anticipated an entire 'Grilled South Coast mackerel' as the description implied. I pointed out the error to a member of staff who just smiled and carried on with her work. When I came to pay the bill I once again pointed out the discrepancy, and this member of staff agreed that the dish was misdescribed, but made no offer of restitution.
Needless to say this pub will not receive my patronage again, and I am currently in touch with Trading Standards regarding their description.

I,ve had many meals in many Mid Sussex pubs, some suprises & many dissapointments. The Half Moon, Warninglid is a suprise tucked not far away from anywhere.

Superb food, warm clean surroundings, friendly staff & not over priced compared to others offering much less. Shame their not open for Christmas day lunch. Looks like the 25th at home again. But an idea for next year please!

Really excellent food in very attractively refurbished pub - foodie, but snacks available for those who don't want a full meal; and there's a pleasant garden area with tables. Passed my private sticky toffee pudding test (one of the hardest dishes to get right). Service on a bank holiday was also very good - and certainly not slow. They did make an error with one order, but corrected it very quickly and without hassle (which makes a pleasant change from serving staff elsewhere who try to blame the customer for their mistakes). As our party all drank wine we didn't get to test the beer - but we will certainly be going back to do so.

Nice pub and recently extended in a tasteful plain rustic fashion. Food was very good but service a bit slow and the coffee was very small and luke-warm (due possibly to a busy Sunday-lunchtime clientele). Staff were very polite and very helpful, overall one of our better local eating experiences. I would certainly recommend this place.

Really good food pub, recently extended but very sensitively done. Great character, somewhere to go to impress. Book ahead
