user reviews of the Duck On The Pond, Long Itchington

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I've been to a lot of pubs - and this is one of the oddest.

Huge building - one room to the right on entry looked full of the detritus from last night. The main bar has lots of high stools and maybe three tables and then another room of the left seems to be setup for fine dining.

8 real ale pumps - four completely unused and only two of the other bank of four on. Bombardier and Black Sheep Holy Grail. I chose the later and it was in very good nick.

Got the feeling the place was being run as a hobby rather than a business and could have a lot more to offer. Maybe they don't get too much trade.

Nothing has really changed here. The place still has a "village hall" feel to it, there is seldom any decent beer on, and the owner seems to be running around in total disarray most of the time.

The Duck on the Pond is a very good family pub with bouncy castle and plenty of outside space at the Beer festival. Although they have really upped they game this year I felt they tried a little to hard and the organisation could have been better. I sure lesson will be learn for next year.

I think this score is unfair. This is a very pleasant pub with lots of nice ale.

Southam Local, I can assure you that I am NOT a "competitor" posting a negative review. I am a visitor who posted an accurate review based on my experience at the time. I therefore await your apology!

This Pub has been recently renovated, and is at least now bright and clean. The Menu looked reasonable, and I had a good Pint of Youngs on my recent visit. I am looking forward to visiting the Long Itchington Beer Festival, where I shall update this post accordingly. That is all.

Having just moved to the area, we have visited many of the local hosteleries of which there are many in and arround Southam, Warks. We had been visiting the Duck on the pond for several months before moving here and were always impreseds with the quality, hot, home food prepeared by Dianne and the hospitality extended by her and Brian at front of house. Since we have been living locally we have made this our local, it just beats the the other pubs around here hands down.
I can only assume that any negative comments that one may read are posted by envious competitors. The Duck on the Pond is currently undergoing a Brewery led refurbishnment and opening back up again on the 4th March 2010. My advice is if you get the chance to go there, just do it.

Cold, dark, and only one Cask Ale on. Somewhat disappointing.

I used to go to this pub a few years a go and loved the food and atmosphere.
But what a shame the same isn't truw anymore... the place was freezing cold although outside the sun was shining. And the whole place was just dirty. The table we sat at had the remains of the previous occupants and the whole atmosphere was just depressing... enough said we decided not to stay.

Heavily food oriented pub set back behind the village pond. The present owners have retained the "French" themed interior, which, it has to be said, works very well. Lots to keep one interested whilst waiting for the food and the two fireplaces in the main lounge are beautifully tiled in gallic style. The kitchen is apparently very small and it is therefore quite extraordinary how they cope with such an extensive menu and are able to serve the food without delays. And it is good food too. The only down side, in my opinion, is the rather limited beer range - but I believe it is tied to Wells and Young, although not badged as one of their houses.
