Beer has always been good over the last few years. I do recommend the Sunday lunch

Traditional country pub on the road out of Binfield. Hammerpot Pale Ale, West Berkshire Good Old Boy, Binfield Best & Loddon Hoppit were the ales on offer, with Westons 1st Quality cider occupying a third handpull. Seating spreads around the bar and there is a large collection of tankards hanging from the ceiling, in addition to a display of some rather large keys on one wall. The best of 3 pubs we tried in Binfield. The only drawback is that it is closed during the afternoon, even on bank holidays.

A proper English pub, selling great beer, I had Binfield best which is brewed just for this pub, they also had 3 other beers on including Old Boy from West Berks.

In addition to great beer the do great food like the excellent, and very traditional, ploughmans I had. The menu also offers plenty of choice for vegetarians.

Lovely pub! Friendly landlord and staff serving a nice range of well-kept fine real ales. Nice seating area outside the pub too. It's so nice to go into a pub without a TV!
I'd love to have a place like this as my local, still, it's only a short taxi ride away.

First time at this pub. Very friendly staff, great food, very good value for money. Will definitely visit again.

Still as good as ever. Food is consistently good now, and more local guest beers are being stocked (Bingham's Brickworks on last evening).
Keep up the good work, Dave.

Not good for the disabled - car park very sloping and too gritty, skittle room ramp too steep, no disabled WC and slippery floor in the gents'. Food good but not worth the access hassle for many disabled persons.

I highly recommend the Good Old Boy. Perfect pint, good flavour and at 4% not overbearing.

I would suggest booking for Sunday lunches now that the good weather finally appears to be with us. My recent visit on Easter Sunday found a pub with not a single table free for meals or just sitting down.

Quiz nights by John on a monthly basis and altho quiet in recent months are now attracting more and more people.

Cannot find a single bad thing to say about this delectable little pub.

Cracking meal and some excellent West Berks Good Old Boy last night. Friendly pub - my conversation with my wife about Christmas No 1s had everyone joining trying to remember out when Boehmian Rhapsody was No 1! Landlord Dave in good form as usual- a proper pub.

A nice traditional freehouse with no music or electronics, just beer and conversation. The interior sports various brasses mugs and bric-a-brac. Four ales available on my visit, with a heavily local slant (Loddon and West Berks) which tasted good. Theres a nice garden, a skittle alley and food is available. Worth a visit, combined with a short walk down the road to the Victoria.

The Rebellion IPA has gone to be replaced by "Binfield Best" - brewer unknown. Still a fine boozer, but not so good on our last visit as landlord Dave was on hias holidays. Apparently, Rebellion put up their prices so were told to get on their bikes!
metrology_man - 21 Apr 2009 16:24
Skittles alley room had no real ale. We expected Rebellion IPA as on a previous visit, but none now - just fizzy Tetleys.

Access for a disabled bloke was appallingly bad - the worst pub he had been to in recent years: steeply sloping loose-gritty car park, too steep ramp into door. No obvious disabled parking space(s). He will not come here again unless they make it comply with the DDA..

Friendly pub with a dedicated core of locals. Nice to see a pub busy with people of all ages. Good home-cooked food and excellent selection of locally-brewed ales. The Rebellion IPA was on particularly fine form.

Good pub with superb selection of usually local ales.
Good selection of food, more limited on Sunday lunchtimes to your typical roast meal.

Newish landlord has turned trade around - was very busy when we visited on a Sunday lunchtime.

New patio area outside perfect for summer drinking.

And still has a skittle alley!

Excellent village pub - like pubs used to be. No TV or music, just friendly locals, superb ales (always 5, usually local), presided over by the genial Dave. Now voted local CAMRA Pub of the Year, justifiably so.

Nice brasses. When thinking about the archetypal English inn, this is what comes to mind. Can't be faulted

Traditional pub. Excellent beers. Friendly staff. Nothing negative to say about this place. Should be more pubs like this around.
