While perusing the menu outside at the pub entrance a staff member appeared and insisted we enter. So we did and got a drink. But we quickly decided against eating here after observing the tiny portions being served and the high prices. Also we felt we were bullied at the door to enter, so a thumbs down from us too.

A very pretentious place and felt uncomfortable sitting in there as a mere drinker. Had a decent range of ales, I had the British Bulldog

The a la carte menue may be expensive here but we have had 5 fixed price lunches that have been really good; imaginative food well presented; attentive staff; good atmosphere inside and a lovely garden when it is sunny; small selection of beers but that has not been the main reason for our visit; our latest visit was VERY BAD however - perhaps because the manager was not there. We waited over 15 minutes to order - it would have been much longe but we went in search of a member of staff - they all seemed to be busy sorting out knives and spoons; the first course (risotto) took another 15 minutes to arrive and was almost cold; although the place was only a quarter full the main course took 45 minutes to arrive, only after asking when would it arrive; when it did arrive one duck breast was dry and overdone and another was so raw that we asked for it to go back to the kitchen for more cooking; the veg. looked pretty but again were not hot; we had no time for a pudding. Go at your peril!

Lovely building and decor. Nice ambience and polite staff but oh the rip off food. No main course under 14 which wouldn't be so much of an issue but the portions are unbelievable minute. Delicious yes, but hardly more than a few mouthfulls. 14 for a snack is totally unacceptable, even a tasty snack. I fail to understand the logic of pubs like this. The meat may be high quality and expensive but what would an extra few spoonfuls of mash potato or veg cost? The main cost of providing a pub meal is staffing and premises. Why ruin an experience for the sake of pennies? Should one really be leaving a restaurant/pub wondering where the nearest takeaway is?

Had a quick Drink in here on Saturday Evening out of curiosity, we had booked for Dinner in our own local and were picking up Friends. Its not a Pub and in my opinion very uncomfortable didn't rate the atmosphere and from what I saw of the Food it is way overpriced, I witnessed a Customer staring at his Plate as if to say 'is that it ?' Doubt we will return for a Meal anytime soon !

On the one hand, they made us welcome and squeezed us in unbooked on a busy Friday night. The food was OK, if just a tiny bit pretentious and expensive and the beer, Harvey's Best, was up to spec.
On the other hand, if you just want a couple of pints and a packet of nuts, you'll feel out of place unless you sit in the garden and even then they'll probably look at you funny if you approach the bar in person. The only people I saw drinking at tables NOT laid for a meal were in a kind of narrow annexe and clearly waiting for their table.
It's a modern tendency I deplore to turn a perfectly nice pub into a restaurant that just happens to serve beer, and that seems to be what's happened here
Oh, yes. and what vandal decided that the old wooden ceiling beams would look better painted white? I think I'll knock a point off for that

Oh dear! All the hype for the revmped pub but what a let down! The "new" Windmill opened on 31/5/2012 for the local community. There were to many people there who were definately not Hollingbourne. The new owner did not introduce himself (unlike the owners of the Dirty Habit who went out of there way on thier opening night to make sure the locals were welcome).
The bar staff were surly, the greeters at the door were unimpressive, the decor is just too white, the beer was warm and the menu (from a TV chef was bland.
All in all not an auspicious start.
It will be a while before he gets my money.

It appears the pub has closed as the result of the landlords having done a runner, something that seems to be all to common these days.

a party of 15 went to this pub on a saturday night for a birthday meal. we were running late due to weather conditions and having an elderly couple in , the party with walking difficulties. Our waitress must have taken an instant dislike to us as was rude and arrogant from the outset. With 4 or 5 younger members of our party haveing the same job but having been trained properly to be polite to customers it was noted and commented about her attitude. The food was good though orders came out wrong for both main courses and desserts. The rissotto stack was dry and the sea food platter was good but not sufficent for the price and came with boiled veg!!!!! surely that should be served with salad..The pork lion was very thin and almost like gammon. When we asked for coffee they told us yes but were were to hurry up as they wanted to close, this was at approx 11.30pm and our food bill was 350. plus at least another 100. bar bill. if they think that is the way to treat customers then we wish them luck, but none of us would go again which is a shame as in the party was 3 couples who eat out at least twice a week, but it wont be in this pub .
