I liked The Anchor. Still only the staple Southwold, Ghost Ship and Broadside, but did have Blackshore stout, ease up chilled IPA, New England chilled IPA plus Meantime.. I always wonder why Adnams doesn't often offer guest real ales. The gardens and outdoor seating areas are large, and there was a BBQ going that seemed to have decent prices. walberswick is lucky to have these two pubs..

Can't believe this hasn't been reviewed for five years. It has now been given a light-blue paint job and a modernisation from the above photo and I'm sorry to say I can't understand why it's in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. The beers were in ok condition, but not outstanding and short measures were given on all of the four of the pints ordered with top-ups asked for and begrudgingly received. For a change it wasn't because of the head size being too large, the guy just wasn't filling the glass anywhere near the top (and not oversized lined glasses used) - almost as if he didn't want to get beer on him.

Spent 3 nights here this month. Very friendly and welcoming, and good food and wine list too.

Great range of beers including some from the brilliant Meantime. Very good food, large garden. Lovely pub.

A nice enough place, but a tad too restauranty for me.

We were asked if we would be eating, almost before we made it through the front door.

Had one pint, then went back to The Bell around the corner.

Stayed for a couple of nights in February. Had room in the pub, which could have done with a coat of paint, but was clean and warm. Excellently kept beer, and lovely food, although a little pricey. Great place to stay for a weekend in a nice seaside village environment.

Something of a surprise that The Anchor was not on BITE before our trip to Southwold/Walberswick as it is just up the road from the Bell. Very pleasant front bar, Adnams in good form, polite barman (bizarrely on work placement from Canada) who produced comp peanuts with our beer. Larger bar/eating area to the left and outdoor seating out back. They do accom with a 2 night minimum stay but a single night can be arranged for a small supplement. Worth a visit when this side of the creek.
