A bit like being in a cave (sprayed with some concrete artexy stuff inside). But nice enough and we stayed for another.

I will not head back to this pub again. After walking in and asking for a pint of London Pride and being charged the money, I handed over the money. Whilst the lady was opening the till I asked if the pub was still serving food to which she said 'yes' and that I should sit down and she would bring my drink over (although it was poured and within reaching distance on the bar). She handed my five pound note back and said she would hand me a bill at the end. A bit puzzled that I couldnt take my drink I sat all of three yards from the bar. She walked the three yards with my drink. after eating an very average meal I asked for the bill and wasnt best pleased when I saw the 10% service charge. Looking back the lady seemed very keen to put my pint on the tab hence costing me an extra 40p!! Never again

Regarding the food I agree with the last 3 lines of Lettonie's comment 18/08/09, but didn't find it unfriendly. The food was rubbish. Ploughmans with tiny bits of cheese and thin sliced white bread! The chicken burrito was microwaved rubbery and soggy. The ham and leek pie was tiny, about 4" x 2" and also soggy pastry as that too had been microwaved. When will people learn you don't microwave this kind of food! - Also, the white wine was warm. A total waste of money, and as a bar, they have the audacity to add 10% service charge! I too would say...Avoid.... unless you are desaparate for a drink and want to see the river through windows that need cleaning.

This has to be the unfriendliest pub I've ever visited since coming to London - which is saying something. The staff barely look up as you walk in, eventually serve you in a bored, contemptuous fashion, and generally make you feel uncomfortable if you are not a regular. They had some Sunday papers next to the bar, clearly out on display - I went to get one, and a large man working there, who I think was the manager, actually grabbed it back and told me that they were his, and he was about to take them away (? - at 4pm in the afternoon?) The tables are decked with sad wilting bunches of carnations, the food is microwaved rubbish (had a rubbery tasteless chicken burrito here about a year ago) and the toilets less than clean. A real shame, as it's got bags of character and could be something special in the right hands. We couldn't wait to leave! Avoid.

A charmless and unwelcoming place; serving flat beer with a view of the Thames. Best throwing yourself in the river than coming here again.

The view is excellent, and I didn't have an issue with the service either I have to say. I would however concur about the condition of the beer. I had pride, and it was just about drinkable, nothing more.

Nice place with some intersting history but London Pride only just average and quite expensive.

Food orientated, but a decent enough little place. Fullers London Pride and Chiswick on handpump. The Chiswick I had was not in very good nick, but was just about drinkable. Interestingly both Trainman and Pubcollector below comment on the less than perfect condition of the beer I wonder if this is a regular feature, or were we just unlucky? However, the food was reasonably priced and pretty good. I wouldnt go out of my way to visit again, but would have no objection to dropping in again if I was passing. In summary, its another one of those OK pubs, with nothing very special about them.

Terrible service. The place was empty when four of us arrived at 10.20pm on a Monday after eating at the Grapes. The barman was in a right strop and we soon regretted ever having crossed the threshold. He started clearing table cloths, etc soon after serving us and said "can you drink up, I want to go home now" as he snatched the vase of pink carnations from the table. Who cares if you get a river view when you get service like that. Go to the Grapes where you'll get much friendlier service.

Quiet Weds 17:15. Pride & Ipa on handpump, Pride passable but not perfect. Small round tables set up bistro-stylee, little vase of flowers on each, table cloths on those nearest to the river view window at far end which is the width of the pub. Plinky plonky jazz muzak gave way to some noise (sh1te) that todays yoof misguidedly call r&b. French wine growing regions are framed on the ceiling; handy if youve keeled over after a few btls of chablis you can identify its burgundy terroir. Downstairs loo had no light in the trap, meaning I had to leave the door ajar a craic! Haha. Was pleased at 17:30 to move on to Grapes.

Hasn't got the history or Dickens connections of The Grapes but, apart from The Grapes's posh nosh, this pub is as good as or better in every other way. The building is just as ancient and rickety (though it's only been a pub since '79), the views are just as good, the tables get closer to the river, the service is friendlier (no smart-ass comments from waiters). The food too, for it's type (this is pub food, but good pub food, with an emphasis on fresh salad) is to be commended.

Right next door to the Grapes (so views are excellent), but there are only two beers available and my London Pride was definitely on the turn. This isn't a bad pub by any means, but I'd go to the Grapes every time instead of here.

The staff have changed, the new ones are excellent (the one I complained about was an alright bloke - he was just too moody for a barman). Still an excellent place - I go the Narrow St bar for food, but this place is my favourite on Narrow St to sit and relax.

Dear God. A gay bar man who tries to chat people up? Terrifying.

Service was excellent; and my mate had his pint topped up without asking. River views too. Who cares if the bar man is a queen. Beats being a member of Camra.

Good pub for a few quick quiet beers in the week. Strange male bar man who tries it on with every man who comes into the pub.

Great pub, ok pint, great location. TV screens are a bit small for sport but it's not really the kind of place you'd go for that. Live jazz on saturday nights is very good. The place is only really let down by the male staff - sometimes they're great, other times they're just plain weird. I went with the missus one night when it was empty - I was asked to repeat her order about five times ("a glass of white wine please"), then when I ordered a pint I was asked how many ("errr, just the one please landlord"). Still a good place to go though, and yes I speak very clearly.

I agree with Tim Eyles belo.... could and should be an excellent pub. Having said that, infinitely better than the nameless/faceless chain bars that populate nearby Canary Wharf.
anonymous - 24 Jan 2006 15:59
OK selection of beers and lagers and a great view are the plus points for this pub. But the staff aren't that friendly and you can't order a pudding on its own - you have to have had a dinner first.
anonymous - 23 Jan 2006 11:47
It's not a bad pub but the frustrating thing about Bootys is that it could be so much better. Beer, food and service are incredibly average. Great riverside location but outshone in every respect by the Grapes next door. Should try harder.
tim_eyles - 6 Nov 2005 18:29
What you see is what you get. the food was good the beer although not bad could have been better. (Green King IPA)
Alan_Key - 13 Oct 2005 11:59
Nice enough freindly pub with views accross the Thames.
Womble - 17 Apr 2005 10:44
Nice friendly place, pleasant atmosphere, nice staff, great location, but I agree with the other guy - the beers are really disappointing.
RonnyB - 13 Apr 2005 09:04
i found the pub very friendly, but it was busy on Sunday lunchtime & some of the other customers kept on being moved about because others were coming in for the food. the food was amazing I had the roast chicken, enormous serving & very cheap.
on the downside the selection of beers was very poor & the one room semed to be dominated by an enormous TV screen showing some boring sports game. yuk. yawn etc.
oldgirls - 13 Feb 2005 13:10
Not as friendly as The Grapes, which is next door. (In fact, I found it quite unfriendly which, combined with a pretty uninspired selection of standard beers, has kept me from visiting again.)

Nice riverside pub, but no outside seating. The food looks good.
