This pub has certainly sorted itself out over the last few months. The service has improved immeasurably, the thai food has gone to be replaced by your stereotypical (London) pub food. The beer selection is pretty much the same as ever with your usual lagers and a couple of real beers ( although as yet I haven't noticed any guest ales), but then they are appealing to a particular demographic.
The garden is fantastic, but getting a seat there requires early drinking activity over the weekend.
One quite large gripe about this place is that the mens' loos are, quite frankly, a disgrace, and given that everyone has to walk past them to get to the garden, this should be sorted out by Mitchells & Butlers asap (they recently bought this pub, the Railway on the highstreet, and the Sun in the Old Town).

I went here on a fairly busy Saturday night (all the tables inside were taken, half the ones at the front and lots of people were standing). Contrary to the comments below I didn't find the service slow at all and the bar staff seemed pretty cheerful. Like a lot of pubs it smells a bit inside though, because the smoking ban... surely the owners can think of a way of masking this a bit? Cleaning fluid, sweat and stale ale just isn't that appealing!

This used to be a great pub for a few drinks on a nice evening, loads of outside space. However, the last few times I have been here, it's really gone downhill. There seem to be a lot of new staff, and most of them seem oblivious to their true purpose- which is to serve drinks. On a Wednesday night a few weeks ago, people were waiting 20 minutes to be served by staff who couldn't seem to keep the drinks in the glasses, much less remember more than one drink in a round, and struggled to remember who they were actually serving at the bar. One guy seemed very good at serving his friends at the side of the bar though. They also had to eventually stop serving food at 8pm as they clearly couldn't cope. The only thing this place has going for it now is the outside seating.

Don't know who wrote that last review, went for a bite to eat last tuesday. Food was poor, service was worse and not a traditional ale in sight... I won't be recomending to any of my circle. These guys need to buck up their act if they think just changing the food will change peoples mind about this yuppie spot!

At last the thai food has gone and a new modern pub food menu introduced. If you visit earlier in the week and try the food you won't have a p***ed moron bumping into you everytime you take a mouthfull. Went last tuesday and will definatly be going back.

Well what can I say... Having lived in Clapham for many years... It is really no surprise to read "nothing has changed!" This place was always full of pretentious morons and "jibjab" coke heads.
Combine that with the lack of service and product quality... Dont waste your time or conversation on the place.

Agree they dont seem to want to go out of their way to get repeat custome

I agree with all the comments here, the location and outside seating should make this the perfect summer pub. But the food is unappealing and the unhelpful 'No tab' 'minimum £10' rules made me really angry and just show how they only care about raking in the cash and are not interested in a positive customer experience.

Not a fan! the sevice poor, product range below average! I couldnt help but have a feeling that was familiar then my girlfriend pointed out to me that it is a sister pub of the railway and the sun then I realised.

Spring is on the doorstep and so a young man's fancy turns to outdoor drinking. So why not pop to the local fav outdoor haunt The Falcon? I shall tell you why. Beer: awful, poor selection as with sister pubs SUN and RAILWAY. Food: often sketchy. Service: missing, have they transferred from the ClapNorf up the road? This place gets rammed anyway so my quibbles will not count for much.

This pub has soooooooooo much potential... but at the moment frequently waiting at the bar for nealry half an hour and then being served by a McDonalds trainee with minus stars is a typical Flacon experience! Please include customer service in your staff training before Summer 2006, I want to utilise that huge beer garden!!!

Mmm....well, I do like the nice yellow paint. Very cheery in the summer when you can get a seat. It's not a pub though. I think they should just keep the facade and serve you outside when weather permits since I can't fathom why you'd want to drink inside. Beer choice is lamentable if, like me, you prefer bitter to that stuff one cleans ones boots in...er, yes, that's right, lager. Still, if you must drink here and wish all that alice-band, trendy middle-class stuff to wash over you then do pop along to the Alba pizza 50 yards up to get some decently-priced grub to go hold down your Stella. Cheers.

Summer pub cos of the garden. I liked the thai food and not been ill so... Otherwise yes can be a bit pricey and loud. Its a kinda staple haunt for Clapham people isnt it.

I first met my ex here. I seldom come here now. I live in Hackney.

The beer gardens good, the tables out front are good.. but the prices are unbelievable. I could buy a bottle of vodka, the limes, the lemonade and the glasses for what they charge for two vodka lemonades and limes! Only somewhere I go if having a quick pre-dinner drink
|
The spacious beer garden to the rear has to be the major plus to this pub. Unfortunately, the high beer prices, poor beer selection, and popularity with the rugger-bugger sloaney types tip the balance the other way!

Son of TheBeerMonster has just moved to the area. Tried the pub last Sunday. Seems like a good local, friendly enough, with a good atmosphere, but not cheap! As suggested elsewhere, moved on for the footie!
|
great pub with fantastic atmosphere... avoid the food at all costs, poorly made with dodgy ingredients and liable to give you food poisoning. (i speak from experience - on a number of occasions). despite this i'll definately be back, and it has one of the best beer gardens around

i love this pub, great music and a relaxed atmosphere, and the barmaids are gorgeous, highly recommend it!

Another Railway, Sun type affair ith all the same characteristics for example warm flat lager, but it sells so they dont care.
mmmm - 17 Sep 2004 15:41 |
share the reservations about the sloaney locals, but it's got some tasty thai food and a great garden

lived around the corner for 2 yrs...give this place the big swerve and head down to the bedford for the footie or if you like your pool go to the Arches< overpriced and full of people that cannot afford chelsea!

The best pub in Clapham, great selection of music, all kinds of people and the best garden bar (it's like being in another city). It's often really busy and it's easy to get to know locals in there.
Alice - 12 Jul 2004 22:07 |
okay pub - but when busy you simply cannot get served - crowds a bit offish - arches 20m away much better
pado - 26 Feb 2004 17:25 |
Full of OK Yah! yuppies bringing the tone of the area down. Clapham is full of them
Yokel Local - 30 Oct 2003 12:38 |
It's not the best, but for Clapham it's tolerable. I think it helps if you have a double barrelled surname. I have seen a bag snatched from the front 'beer garden' so do watch your belongings.

Best place to be in the summer. Excellent Staropramen, good value Thai food and fantastic beautiful people. Close to estate so watch your wallet/phone.

Beer Garden in Clapham - dream.... Place has a decent atmosphere with a bar outside. Feels like your on holiday. Decent place. Watch your wallet - pickpockets. Not one for the family. More a chill out or warm up bar. Bird called Sophie Higson goes there alot - she is beautiful.
