Brianbrain - I don't want to get into a slanging match with you - but we appear to want different things from our pubs. I want decent beer - and by that I mean real ale. You obviously have other priorities like being welcome in workgear for example. I'm not knocking you for that - and in an ideal world there would be somewhere in the heart of Muswell Hill that doesn't mind if you have mud on your boots (as I too often have after work). However, I have never experienced the cold shoulder at the John Baird when in work gear, and I always get excellent beer there unlike the Minstrel Boy and Keenans - although I agree that Keenans is friendly and sometimes lively (although it can also be very very quiet). I never have a problem with the locals in the Royal Oak and the hill is far easier to manage after a skinful than Colney Hatch Lane which takes you to the Minstrel Boy and Keenans. Highgate Inn is also a good pub - but again beer selection is limited which makes it fairly low on my list. I never said there was a lack of DECENT pubs in Muswell Hill - after all you can never have to many - but the Slug was not a decent pub. PLEASE CAN THE MODERATORS MARK THIS PUB AS CLOSED ?

Wrong again statusbaby. Theres a lack of DECENT pubs in muswell hill. The well was good, the john baird used to be good but is very posh and unwelcoming for those coming after work who arent snobby muswell hill ites. The slug was not marketed well and badly laid out but good value food, friendly, no music and pool tables and decent beer with a 12 o'clock licence. The Oak is ok if you get on with the locals and dont mind the walk downhill (and uphill after a skinful). The minstrel boy colney hatch and keenans over the road are cheap, friendly and lively with a good roast sundays in keenans

Brianbrain obviously doesn't get out much - this pub closed because not enough people went there - the reason being that there are far better alternatives in Muswell Hill - try the John Baird or the Royal Oak for a start

Closed unfortunately to be turned into a Waitrose as of next month. Squatters have broken in so who knows. Lack of decent pubs in muswell hill. A real Shame. O'Neils is worth a try, minstrel boy on colney hatch is rough and ready..or highgate inn in highate is friendly and open late

for a slug and lettuce, it's not actually that bad. That said, it is still a S&L....

Beer nicely chilled though not cheap. Very empty when we popped in after work. But the quiz, the quiz... how do people who are too drunk to stand up manage to win? (I think we should be told.)

I've been in a few times since it changed from Bar Ha Ha and I'm always disappointed and vow never to go in again. Its a dark and characterless place - the only natural light is by the window which is where most people huddle. We went in today for a glass of wine and a burger. The wine list was the usual industrial, unimaginative and overpriced fare. The burger was apparently 8oz but was a small over-cooked dry lump on a very small bun. I'm sure the burgers used to be better than this. I had ordered the Mexican Burger which was supposed to come with sour cream - it didn't and I had to go back to the kitchen to ask for some.

I think they have tried to make the burgers look a bit more 'up market' in order to justify the 10 price tag. Nearly everyone was ordering burgers so you would think that they chef would be able to cook these well - it tasted as if the burger had been sitting around for a while.

We complained and were offered a 15% discount off the bill however on the basis of this disappointing meal we won't be eating there again.

Everything that is wrong in the "new breed" of London pub.

I really like this slug and lettuce, I have been here on several occasions the food is reasonably priced and you get well made food, and decent portion sizes, also the 3 cocktails are amazing ! and the service is really good, The scouse manager is always runing around making sure everyone s happy, other pubs in Muswell Hill should take a leaf out off this pubs book !!

Last week I had my first visit to the Slug and Lettuce since it had changed from the pretentious hole that was the HaHa Bar and I didnt really notice much difference except that the kitchen had been closed off to prying eyes.

Lots of premium lagers were available and I noticed a bombardier pump. The barman was polite, but then he handed my change over on a silver tray which I thought was a little out of order for early on a Friday afternoon when there are only 2 other people in the pub.

A patio garden is advertised on the outside of the pub, but I had a look and it is tiny with 4 small tables and it is surrounded by walls.

Im not sure why a failing pub would be replaced with exactly the same kind of pub with a different name Surely it is doomed to failure.

Quite nice. Realy cold beer. Good amount of fizz in the beer. Table service some times. Good.

Its Ok for a quick drink but its more like a coffee bar than a Pub. I would not want to stay here too long its got no Pub atmosphere what so ever it feels more like a Station or Airport Bar.

I only went in here just to see what it was like I had a Quick pint then left. It was just too full of non drinkers for my liking. It seemed more like a cheap Mc Donalds restaurant than a Pub. There was hardly anyone drinking Beer it was just full of foodies eating and a few Coffee drinkers. The odd few people that were drinking were only having a glass of wine.
So I left & went to the Well opposite much better more like a real drinkers Bar with Good Guinness.
