Food is conspicuously homemade and tasty with some veggie options. The Black Sheep All Creatures was slightly cloudy. Good mix of chatty customers, and the staff are efficient. All considered, probably a dependable choice for the area.

This is a fantastic pub!

The food is amazing and the menu is very extensive with choices for everyone. The portion sizes are huge making it excellent value for money.

The traditional ales and guest beers go down a treat with my husband too!

If you are there on an evening the entertainment is also very good making for a great atmosphere and good fun!

With regards to the previous comments about the landlady I think a degree of 'treat people how you expect to be treated' comes to mind. I have eaten here several times and found her to be extremely pleasant and friendly, as are all the other staff.

I would definitely recommend this pub. 10/10

just eaten at this pub. I was actually chastised by the arrogant landlady for pointing out to her when presented with my bill that I was been overcharged!

I ordered for myself the meat and potato pie with peas, I asked the waiter if it came with mash, he replied YES, I THINK SO. I answered, well if it does, I will have some. The meal arrived and included a scoop of mashed potatoes. The pie itself tasted ok, but was bulked up with chopped potato pieces, and not much meat.Total 6.65

My bill said that I had chips with my meal, and a 2.20 extra charge for them.I noted to the landlady that I had the mash, and that I had been told by the waiter that it was included. She said she would ask the waiter, who when asked did confirm that he told me that mash was included. The landlady then told me, with an insolent manner, that as a gesture of goodwill, she would knock off the 2.20!

I then asked her to price up the drinks individually that my wife, son, and I had been served. She mentally added the cost of the pint of beer, and two soft drinks and she told me they totalled 5.85. I showed her the bill that I had been given. It said the drinks came to over 13. she admitted a mistake had been made, but went on to scald ME for not wanting to pay for mashed potatoes that I had with my meal......AVOID THIS OVERCHARGING PUB AND PATRONIZING LANDLADY.

The British Oak is probably not a pub that I would go just for a drink in, however it does amazing food. The portions are huge and well worth the money. Seriously, don't eat for a week before - 2 weeks if you're going for the pork shnitzel! The staff are really friendly. When it gets busy then it does take a little while to get served. Other than that it's a very nice pub and I would give it 10/10 on the basis of the food.

The chef is a genius! The food at this pub is undoubtedly the best pub grub in Wakefield. Great menu and you can tell it's proper home-cooked grub.

Shame about the miserable landlady. I have to say that this pub's popularity is down to the food and not the attitude of the female owner - some people don't have the manners they're born with.

But, my fellow diners and drinkers, don't let that put you off. Great pub, nice atmosphere, fantastic food. Ok, it's a drive away but it's well worth it.
