Vastly over rated compared with the beers in the 2 new micro pubs. The Draught Bass was very disappointing and the décor now dominated by TV display screens

Proper old man's pub just by the High Street. Bass was the only ale on served with an extra large head.

Had another very decent Bass here yesterday, as I did 3 years ago, though I would pop in he when passing just to see the Bass glasses banked up amid the lovely Bass hand pumps. A classic town pub.

Drastically improved!--My brother[a renown imbiber]reckons that the beer is better than its ever been.I can't fault his judgement. It's XL'nt.All we need to do is get rid of the smooth-flow rubbish & the lager, then it's reputation will be restored. The pub is back in the 'Good Beer Guide'for 2008............says it all.

After some 'inside information',apparently the pub needs a lot of work done. The cooling system is 'on it's last legs',[which explains the variable beer quality].The work is going to be done[alledgedly]-the sooner the better as the 'regelars'are getting unhappy. One day this week it did'nt open until 12.00.,leaving lots of annoyed people outside. The barmans response was 'so what?'Apparently no-one lives 'on-site' & the place seems to be 'going down the nick'slowly but surely.Deeply sad.

I have used this pub for years, The beer at the moment is the best in town, the atmosphere is great, I dont believe Ive ever seen any trouble in here.
As for a previous comment saying "the landlord passes through ocasionally" I know this to be false and you can see him in the pub everyday, he was a regular before he took over and he still continues to be so always drinking the draught bass.
The family who now run the pub take great pride in it and are always welcoming and the staff are also great.
I throughly recommend this pub.

As a sun worshipper for 30 years,I must admit to feeling a tad uneasy about its present incarnation. The beer quality is extremely variable, when its on form its excellent, but when its not,its awful. The 'bankers'are now stored in a fridge which I've never seen before & often the beer is too cold, which suggests that its to hide something i.e.,taste.There seem to be cellar problems, but no-one there is saying much.Regulars tend to vote with their feet & some dissapear for weeks on end.Get well soon.

I revisited this pub last week, it seems to be going off the rails, the landlord passes through ocasionally but lives elswhere. The staff are ok but the beer is not on form and is served too cold.

This is without a doubt the best pub in Stockton, and i'm not just saying that because I work there. It has great beer, great regular's, and a great hassle free atmosphere. So if you want a quiet pint this is defintly the place to go. (p.s. it still sells more Bass than anywhere in the country). Jamie

On my bi-annual visits to Stockton the Sun is often by first port of call. The beer has been a bit dodgy since Terry retired but is now in good safe hands, it is superb again, the prices are not bad but seem to be creeping up again.

Oh, these were the days! I have heard rumours that it has been taken over, but I'm hoping they're not true!

The Sun Inn is like no other place in the world. It was in the back room that Stockton Music and Arts Collective (who now run the Georgian Theatre) first started - but sod the history! The beer is hand-pull Bass - and it is amazing. Behind the bar sits a shiny brass tray, on which a few part-pulled pints sit, relaxing. There just over a quater of a pint of beer, and the majority of the rest of the pint glass is head. When you order your Bass, one of these is taken, and the rest of the beer poured to make up the full pint, while the head defies gravity and sits a good 1-2 inches out of the top of the pint glass. And it tastes amazing. And it takes a lot of skill not to get it all over your face.

The front room of the pub is regulars territory, but the back half is usually free. It is comfortable, slightly dusty, and the tables are adorned with threadbare bar towels in the middle - from the early 80s when it was still Carling Black Label. You can feel like you are in the pub at the end of the world... Superb... :o)
