Someone has put a picture of the pub sideways, tut tut. Shameful behaviour. This is not a good pub in many ways at all, in fact the only reason for coming here may be the good selection of ales, including Timothy Taylor i believe, thats if you can bare getting past the annoying staff..

I'm no mathematician - but if you do have 3000 customers a week that is 430 every day - '7days a week'. [lets say 130 for lunch & 300 in the evening.] Are we talking about the same pub? you appear empty most of the time. However-the restaurant upstairs is quite good, can't you bring this downstairs. It would be the best located eaterie in Guildford.

giveusabeer - If I sounded arrogant then that was not the way it was meant - I am the one seeing how many people and drinks we serve a week so feel that I can rightly comment on the number of people we serve.
I didnt say it was 2-3000 individual people but that is roughly the number of people that come through the door on a busy week.
The changes we have made were never going to please everybody but those that do visit us seem to like it. Many many people have told us how nice it is here now compared with the 'old, tired look' of The Three Pigeons.
People that eat/drink here also comment that they would never have visited the old Three Pigeons but do so now because the ambiance/decor/customer base is very different etc etc
Plain and simple, The Farriers is not just a pub like The Three Pigeons was. It offers FRESHLY prepared food in both the bar (fresh seafood/fresh pies amongst others) and the upstairs restaurant however we do still welcome people that just want to come for a drink.
Thanks once again for your comments

Have got to say the answer to ThePilgrims comment seemed a bit arrogant to me. I have known this pub for some little while 2/3000 people never got in here in a year let alone a week are we stretching the truth here?? On our visit it was very quiet had a drink and went to another pub (Royal Oak)with more going on.

I have to totally agree with aleman this pub has always just not made it don`t know why the outside to me looks great but inside theres no spark. I do however wish the new guys all the best.

Thanks for your views 'Pilgrim' unfortunately your comment regarding the chefs is very innacurate - The Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef have been here since the start therefore the quality of the food and therefore the standard has not changed.
We have had various 'lower level' chefs that have been and gone either because of personal reasons of the fact that they were plain not up to the level required - this happens in higher end restaurants.
Obviosuly you are entitled to your opinion however the other 2000-3000 people that visit us each week ( and those regular customers that return week in week out) may disagree with you!
Some people prefer the chain pubs/restaurants however plenty of people like the privately owned venues that offer FRESH food cooked seven days.
Plain and simple we cant always please everybody

This is an ok place but i do say just ok, but what do you want from a town pub.The food was nothing to shout about but the place has had so many chefs since it opened your going to get different standards each time it changes.
|
Despite the name change, this pub never really catches the eye, it lacks a certain ambience about it. Ok for an odd drink i suppose.

Couldn't be more of a contrast to The Three Pigeons. 4 of us has a fantastic meal last Friday. The chef clearly takes food seriously and every course was excellent. The accompanying service was the icing on a great evening. We had a couple of bottles of wine, drinks downstairs and 3 courses for £50 a head and considering the quality, it was good value. Will definitely be returning.

Would just like to say thank-you for all comments so far; after being opened for 3 months its good to hear the positive (and not so also)
The change to a restaurant (well back to how it was 30 years ago) has been well received however unfortunately it is not possible to advertise all 4 menus that we offer in the 2 menu boxes outside - the ones advertised do however state the times and days they are available. A new larger menu box to incorporate all has however been ordered!

Despite the re-fit and change of name, possibly surprisingly this is still a good pub. Deuchars IPA, Pride & Tim Taylor's Landlord were all presentable. Quick service. Clientele are possibly more upmarket than before its reincarnation, which can either be good or bad depending on social standing.

Heard The Farriers had a restaurant upstairs and my wife and I thought we'd have a look on Sat night. The reasonably-priced menu by the front door looked nice so we went in. A short walk up the iron spiral staircase did not leave sufficient distance from the pub-goers below, and then when handed the menu we discovered the one at the front door was not on offer and a far-pricier one featured instead! We didn't bother trying the food, and so I won't submit a score rating but would-be visitors should beware.

The likes of Deuchars IPA and Timothy Taylor on tap. Upstairs is just for eating now, so that does mean less room for just going there for a drink.
|
Had a meal there last night for the first time since The Three Pigeons converted to The Farriers, and was very impressed. Have managed to keep a lively bar going downstairs, and a really good space has been created upstairs for good quality meals. The food was fantanstic, and the busy waitress always wore a big smile, and made the evening run smoothly!
Well done on a great revitalisation of a great pub building.
