This pub has a good location by the river. Nice enough for a drink, but the prices are quite steep and the service cetainly doesn't reflect this. Food is overpriced for what you get.

Staff can be a little bit up themselves here. Food is a little pretentious and over-priced. Beer is of a decent standard and its good location are what make up for the problems. 5/10 from me, middle of the range.

Interesting comments, suggest everyone read a recent hygiene inspection report for this place before eating there. Now if you can avoid the sometimes very rude staff you may enjoy yourself here... I am not saying all the staff are rude just about 3 people... 2 I believe no longer work here. It is a nice pub apart from that.
The only other downside is that it is more expensive than The George Abbot across the road. I may visit again in the near future and report further. The ales here tend to be seasonable.

Very pleasant sitting by the river on a summer's afternoon and an excellent pint of ESB too. Shame about the pansy stemmed pint glass, I shall ask for a straight next time.
We didn't try the food, but lots of people eating and no obvious returns, so it can't be that bad.

Well went here today for a birthday lunch; and my genral impression was the staf adhere to the old adage 'You don't have to be slow to work here, but it helps!!' Service was absolutely awful; with no apology from staff or management. Had to point out on two occasions that I had been waiting for ten minutes to get served, whilst the satff faffed around serving other customers that had only just arrived at the bar. Food was awful; ten quid for some under cooked prawns with soggy tomatoes and dry rice. The chef must be an amatuer or just doesn't care, after having waited forty minutes for the food I thought it would have at least been tasty; no such luck. The people behind this bar need to take a good look at it and either give up and give someone else a go or sack the current staff, take the bull by the horns and make make some (earned) money and satisfy some customers. In future I'll be taking my and my friends custom to the far superior Britania.

We find this a smart, friendly and well run establishment for an after work depressurising session, or lunch time drink.
I have yet to sample the food however, so I cannot comment on that aspect.
The staff members we have encountered here have been chatty without being obtrusive, as well as being cheerful and helpful which is a winning combination for me.
I certainly don't find the prices here offensive, but I don't drink Red Bull so I have no idea what that drink should cost.
Whilst The White House may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is one of my favourite places to pop into for a drink in Guildford, and has never disappointed me yet.

Nice seating area outside, but redbull and vodka for just over £7???? this isn't Trafalgar square!
There are too many other decent pubs in Guildford with more reasonable prices.

This has become our standard place to meet up because it's so friendly and we feel so comfortable in here. If you see a bunch of girlies commandeering the sofas by the windows over looking the river then it's probably us!
The staff are always lovely as well as capable, and the prices seem - to us - to be commensurate with the local area. In fact a round in here often seems a couple of quid cheaper than in many of the other places we hang out.
I'd love to know more about the history of the building Beersupper. It's been a pub for my whole drinking career.

Good location near to the river. Well kept beers from Fullers. Friendly staff with a helpful atitude to their customers.

The 'White House', nicely refurb'd, deceptively spacious ground floor (looks smaller from outside) and a quaint 1st floor 'landing' area big enough for a small party (you could squeeze 20 people in there, but you'd have to be good friends..!)!
Decor is dark but tastefully done. Seating was comfy, but get in before the office workers, or you won't find a seat! Lots of photos of 'old' celebs on the walls upstairs (folk like Steve McQueen, James Bond, 60's singers, etc). I liked the jokey pictures in the loo, depicting "Monica and Bill" outside The White House!! Fantastic!!
Excellent food, although i only plumped for the bacon burger. It was tastefully presented on an 'oblong' plate, and came within 10mins of ordering (that was at 6.30pm), pretty good really.
I like the venue, right on the tow-path, i bet that's lovely in the hot weather. There is a 'deck' area outside at the back which over-looks the river (Wey). The White House gets 8/10 from me, when i want to be 'posh', eat reasonably, and entertain Mrs TJ! If you want to see the European football you'll have to go over the road to the 'George Abbott' the nearest sports bar. Which i can also recommend..!! TJ

They`ve not done a bad job on this building considering it`s not a true old Guildfordian pub and was a solicitors office for years,good location by the Wey not my cup of tea tho.

Fullers pub on the river by the town bridge. Good taste furnishings in the usual sedate Fuller's style. I like a more earthy feel to my pubs - this is like drinking in a department store tea room. Points for nice location, being clean and tidy, and for offering four different casks in good condition.

This pub is always welcoming, and the Fuller's beer is always in good nick. Nice to chat from the barman/landlord/manager from Vancouver. You never seem to get riff-raff here, so you can have a decent conversation without a load of noise or sports TV, unlike the George Abbot over the road.

I love coming here because they’re always so darn friendly and chatty. :-)
I hadn’t been in for a little while when I came here last week but I noticed that they’ve had a bit of refit with new tables, sofas and a lick of paint by the look of it.
The changes are subtle but it looks very very good.
As did our barman - but enough of that! ;-)
The warm friendly atmosphere seems to attract lovely people as customers too, it’s always nice to meet new people when you’re out but it’s all very low pressure.
There are no rabid singles scanning the horizon for the next notch on the bedpost. (I understand that this is actually a disadvantage for some of you!)

The beer is very good. Three different Fullers beers. The food: forget it. Very expensive and small portions. Take the cheap option of a baked potato and they won't take the trouble to cook it through. Still, the beer is that good you won't notice you're eating raw potato... Internet connection £6 an hour. Why?

The wife and I visited on our way back from a wedding. We have never found a place this vile. My London Pride was flat and warm and the wife's white wine spritzer was okay but the lipstick on the glass did not match her colours! The toilets needed a good clean.

Was in here for a couple of mid afternoon pints on Saturday. Weather was good so place was busy with people sat by the river. However, service was slow - 10 minutes at the bar for 2 pints. Funny thing was that there seemed to be loads of staff knocking about - couple more of them serving at the bar would have helped. Its a nice place though, comfortable and good facilities

ElDickster, if you are not a fan of lairy pubs, may i recommend you to the Gorldsworth Arms. They have a strict non-lairy policy.

Nice pub. Despite town centre location, it's not lairy at all. Bouncers on the door, but even they were pleasant chaps. Beer good too, but then it's a Fullers pub, so what do you expect?

The Goldilocks of Guildford pubs - everything is "just right"!
So many places are too pricey, too posey, too cool for school, too young, too rough or too crap.
The White House has a lovely, friendly, relaxed atmosphere. - I love sitting outside by the river in the spring and summer. It doesn't get much better than that.
The customers here are a lovely bunch. Everyone chats to you and when our group expanded somebody actually noticed and offered us a spare chair, andsomeone else took a group photo for us. How cool is that?
Plus, you can chat to the guy next to you at the bar without worrying that he's going to become your stalker for the evening. It's not a meat market type of place.
Which is not to say that there are not attractive men here. (There are plenty of them to keep me occupied!)
It's generally packed when I go, but I never have any trouble getting served at the bar. The glasses get cleared regularly but unobtrusively, and the place seems to run very smoothly.
When I was there last I was impressed by all the staff I met. One of the barmaids remembered what some of our group were drinking when we drunkenly forgot, and the barman who served us was just really friendly and professional. It's hard to be cheerful and chatty when you're rushed off your feet.
Our food was yummy too.
I think I've found my new local!

would not bother with the quiz night here. It is unreliable as seems to be the case with most quiz nights. The only reliable quiz night is the George Abbot that i can think of in the area.
However it is still worth coming to for a drink. The Old Winter Ale is one of the seasonal offerings. Pretty pleasant but not quite as pleasant as the London Porter which is always good here.
Entertainment on offer at the moment includes open Mic Nights. Check what date before going it is unlikely to be obvious. Also a questionaire to take part in, special events for Valentines nights. And Six nations rugby to watch.
Also they have become very keen on anti smoking here, appears to very shortly be becoming a non-smoking pub. The ban officially comes into place in the summer of course

Better than the Rodboro in less crowded with underage slappers (alledgedly), but still the best thing is to sit outside by the river with a pint instead of trying to fight your way through the melee.

A good sized pub with decent beer but beware of "careless" barstaff. Overcharged £3 on a round of 2 drinks - i repeated the ammount and hesistated but the barman only checked when i queried the amount. Why does this still happen with computerised tills?

Has improved since a recent refub. Bar is a bit small for the size of the pub, so expect to wait for a drink at the weekend. Nice to sit up on the balcony on a summer night though.

The food was pathetic and revolting and half the menu was unavailable. The staff were unsure where my sixteen year old son and I were allowed to sit in the pub, and had to find the manager. The manager himself found it appropriate to tell me where my son and I could sit, while chewing gum. I have been to the whitehouse when there was better management and now nothing is clear and the friendly staff are trying to cope with the little information that they are given for the customers.

Before the refurb it was looking abit tired but they've worked wonders with it now. Still a tad pricey but the food is excellent and the vibe has been re-injected. A nice place.

We visited from Wales, and found the staff especially the managers bloody lovely. They made you very welcome, food and beer great too. Will definately visit again.

Just moved to Guildford 2 months ago and this was one of the first pubs i tried and i was very impressed, the balcony upstairs is where we sat and it has a nice view over the river and up the main high street. The drinks are reasonably priced but could do with a student night or two. This is also one of the only pubs in the south that sells goldschlarger (spirit not the Grolsch larger) and it is soo nice... this is a fantastic pub with friendly staff and the food we ordered was hot and the portions were large. Excellent for a night out or a general day out with your mates... we have had many a laugh in this pub with photos and videos to prove it. Well done for the running of this pub!

We went to this pub for a farewell lunch for one of my colleagues and often go in on a Friday lunchtime - a lot of the time the staff are not the friendliest bunch but there are a few who are helpful. This time we preordered our food, I ordered a jacket potato which when it arrived was stone cold. During our lunch hour I did not complain as I did not want to wait for a fresh meal and they tend to get v busy - nice venue, good menu but could do better.

The honey dew is very nice here. Plus this pub often closes late. Just dont try going upstairs after closing time as you are at risk of being called a scumbag

Back open now -- although apparently not letting in anyone under 21! Don't expect that'll last.
Was in there lastnight for a few beverages. Typical Guildford level of priciness (so stay away from the fancy imported beers unless you've got a dedicated mortgage), but the place has improved dramatically. Nicer decor, they've opened up the conservatory so that it's now just part of the main room.
They've got rid of the furthest end of the bar (the bit that used to be against the back wall as you go in). And you no longer have to walk a strange, slightly seedy way to the toilets -- they're still in the same place, but the staircase is open and in the main bar area, a la Hogshead up the High Street.
Not sure how the clientelle will change. But now that they've finally got rid of the problem of the inside of the bar being a load of arse, while the outside was great in summer, it should turn into a cracking place to while away the evenings.
Provisional rating of 7... will have to wait and see what happens to the place.

Very nice place to sit outside on a nice summer's day, but has the feel of a cold, dank village hall inside. Food is nice, but they don't serve after 6pm on Saturdays, which is a blunder. Service is variable, just like the atmosphere.

Beer selection and pricing very good indeed and food suitably robust. This is my haven when 17 year old daughter and 45 year old wife are going around the shops.
The conservatory is a hoot when it pours.

Fantastic selection of burgers (named after american presidents) at very good prices. Be warned you may have to order chips separately. Good atmosphere if you are in a large group with plenty of group seating available.
