I totally disagree with the last post. The welcome stranger is the most warm welcoming pub in Silverhill, i can't believe for one minute that they didn't help you with the issues that happened during your stay. I funny enough was staying in bed and breakfast the same night and i remember them turning the heating up and was also given blankets to put on our beds. There is no way they would leave you cold if you didn't like your stay there then you know what to do.

Stayed there on the 18th February 2012 for one night. Had a problem with the heating being very low in our room (myself, partner and daughter in family room) which we told the management about and the said they would sort it out. The heating went off after that and they said they would boost it as it had been turned down because of the weather being milder. We then told them again when it failed to turn on and they said it had been sorted out as it was accidently turned off. We went out for the evening and came back the hallway and corriders were all warm, radiators on until we got into our room and it was freezing!!! It was too late to call them up again and I felt like I was being a pest. My daughter went to sleep and then told us in the morning she was cold all night because the wind was blowing on her face, she then showed me a hole in the wall which went straight through to the outside, I could fit my finger into it. We tried to laugh it off but we were really disappointed with the room, we had paid £65 for the night and it was very cold and not very nice, there was lots of hair on the floor in the bathroom, so much my daughter wouldn’t take a shower. Breakfast was not very good either, the coffee was awful, we had to change it to tea because it was undrinkable and the uht milk/cream was off. We left and I decided to complain to the management about the issues I had, a chap there I assumed was the manager, didn’t even apologise for the problems we had experienced and even told me the heating should have worked and he would look into it – as he took my key from me he just said ‘cheers’ I am not fussy, I am not an idiot nor do I have unrealistic expectations about what constitutes value for money, but I would expect some form of working heating. So I would say if you are thinking about stopping at the welcome stranger inn, 55 Sedlescombe Road North, St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex don’t bother, it isn’t a nice place to stay and the management don’t seem to care about their guests.

I went to the Welcome Stranger pub with my family for a meal last week. We was greeted with friendly staff and was told to make ourselves comfortable, we ordered our food and was given them very quickly even though the restaurant was busy, the meals were lovely and fresh, and got eaten with the outcome of clear plates. Through-out our visit here we felt very welcome which is so lovely.
The Welcome Stranger is a lovely family pub which is loved by many.

I went along for a breakfast after seeing their deal on the outside board. I ordered their smaller breakfast and added bubble and squeak. When it came along I could not quite believe they were trying to pass off a vegatable style burger as bubble and squeak. The bacon was more full of fat then anything and everything was very greasy. I also ordered a coffee which tasted burnt. I was very disappointed!!
The last time I went a couple of years ago it was very nice. I'm assuming they have either changed owners, or employed a very bad chef. Please sort out the breakfasts. It's very comfy inside and would have been back had the breakfast been good.

I was in here recently in my Spurs shirt and I encountered no problems at all. They looked more like a girl guides group to be honest. No ale, just fizzy pop.

The Welcome Starnger is run by one of the nicest families in St.Leonards. The previous reveiwer suggested that the meals are cheap (they most certainly are) because they come out of and industrial microwave. I can quite categorically state refute that idea. The chefs Pepe and jason have now been there for some years and all food is freshly prepared by either one. One reason the food is so reasonable is the family are former master butchers.
The Pub is a Chelsea pub and home I think to Hastings Chelsea supporters Club, so yes you do have to choose your times, but, this should not put you off going to sample the home made lasagne, made by Pepe.
The breakfasts are appetising and plentyfull.

I HATE football, so made the elementary error of entering this premises during a match some weeks ago to get a bite to eat.
Completely rammed with Chelsea shirt wearing louts all lagered up and mouthing off to each other at double decibel levels about the opposition.
This pub is locally famed for its cheap meals. They are cheap, but all come out of an industrial sized microwave ( I would imagine )... awful.
I ended up drinking Guinness, due to a lack of real ales.
However, lager is the drink of choice here.

I think the previous reviewer is spot on. The place should be called "Welcome Stranger IF and only IF you are a Chelsea FC supporter".
I thought that football team specific pubs went out years ago. But then, this is St Leonards, after all.....
Rating - 3/10. And that will bring the average up.

They should name this pub 'The Bugger Off Stranger', went in here for a practice game of pool on a quiet wednesday, and couldn't have been looked at worse if I'd asked to shoot the dog. Lights went on reluctently after landlady demanded to know who I was playing against. When I said I just wanted to practise she asked for £5 deposit. I refused but she still let me play.
It's a Chelsea FC pub, and as I have a Manchester accent, that probably didn't help. especially the week after the Champions League Final!!
2/10 because the beer didn't poison me

I had my wedding reception here 25 years ago and really enjoyed it. I have been there again since for an 18th birthday party which was also good and the place seemed bigger. Apart from these 2 visits I cannot comment further as although I've often thought of going there I never do. I have tried to add many of the numerous other pubs in St Leonards to this site but for some reason the bods running this site never add them so I'm left to comment on this one.
