Beer selection good on our visit and tasted even better.

However, the small lad fancied food and in the main the mains were outside the budget, finally settled on the steak and oyster pie only to find it was steak and mushroom, not beef and bottomfeeder as hoped. ~Perhaps the lack of sealife under the pastry crust explained the lack of chips, it did seem a tad mean not to include even one triple fried chip in the headline price but that seems to be the way of the world. Didn't alter the fact the pie was good though

Foodie but beer-drinker friendly, upmarket pub. Decent pint of local Redemption Pale and two other beers. Food not sampled but looked good. Nicely decorated.

Closes on a whim, as it did this week. Don't go out of your way to visit.

Popped in for a few pints of a rainy day, very nicely kept Wandle and a not bad butcombe. Cant comment on the food as had just finished lunch before popping in. Staff were more than friendly including the manager and seemed to have a good rapport with people popping for a quick drink. Would pop back if in the area.

Nothing special. The food is expensive and average, ditto the beer, staff are aloof and the atmosphere is pretty flat. It seems to rely on being the local diner for the extremely expensive surrounding houses and flats, which is fair enough but gives very little incentive for anyone else to make the effort. I'm off to the Albion next time...

smart pleasant pub but then there are so many similar places around islington, personal preference i wouldnt rush back in a hurry mostly because the butcombe bitter was not well kept - freezing cold and lifeless a mistake made in so many establishments and the alternative.... Spitfire well thats inspiration (not!) isnt it...

The Drapers Arms has reopened under new management!

The place has had a major renovation and looks wonderful. The staff are eager to please and enthusiastic. The atmosphere in both the bar and the garden in the rear is very nice. The upstairs dining room looks spectacular. My only minor niggle is that the food underwhelmed a little. Admittedly our expectations were high given the care and attention paid to everything else but the menu was a bit disappointing. It is likely that they'll improve on this as they have only just opened so I'd certainly recommend you go in and try for yourself!

The Drapers has closed. Best bet nearby is the Duchess of Kent on Liverpool Road for a decent pint & a good bite to eat.

ok but make sure you leave the right way as you don't want a nail gun in your head if you take the wrong turn after a goo evening.

This place was shocking. Went for Sunday lunch - the staff seem to have returned to being rude and nonchalant. The menu was not their normal menu (we weren't told why) and resembled something more at home in a Happy Eater. The decor is tired, the staff are rude and the menu is uninspiring. We left to go to the Albion instead. I would not go here again.

visited this place on a saturday night and had a meal upstiars.
The staff were friendly, food was below average. The sausages in the sausage and mash had been reheated(possibly a few days old) and the Scallops in the pasta had a rather unpleasant strong fishy aroma.
I dont think we would return here for food again but downstairs looked and sounded very vibrant so would maybe consider returning here for drinks.

The decor in the upstairs room (white floor boards)gives the place a very unusual feel, kind of felt like eating dinner on an ice rink not in a cosy gastro pub.

Its very dissapointing to be served old food !!

Very fancy gastro pub, possibly the poshest place I've ever been in that can still (just about) call itself a pub. Excellent food, decent beer garden out the back.

Had a good family lunch here in celebration of a recent birthday. No complaints re the food except everything is a tad on the expensive side of reasonable. Our visit was on 9th Feb, and there were no problems with the staff at all.

I will never go back and recommend that you do not go there until they sort themselves out. This is a fancy gastro pub but they are so up themselves it ruins the possibilities of the nice interior and position. The beer is average, the food just OK for the price, the bar staff variable, and the waitresses in the restaurant upstairs incredibly surly and rude. Last night they argued with me because I refused to pay the full 12.5% service charge that had automatically been added to my bill. Bearing in mind half the bill was bottles of wine that we had to serve ourselves to I thought my 20% tip on the food was enough. But these moody mares thought not and told me I had not paid enough. Awful.

Very poorly kept beer. Very surly service. Unimpressive.

Not really a pub which is a shame as it could offer a good community function without giving up it's back dining area. Ok beers and the food is alright if overpriced {it's not that amazing}. Nice enough if you can afford to live in this gorgeous area but otherwise there's better 'real' boozers around.

It's been a year of lunchtime visits now, but with the Albion having had a make-over I think one is due here too. Staff remain okay and ales fine enough - the food remains untested apart from a the odd bowl of expensive chips....which were ...chips!
Harlap - 23 May 2007 13:38
This place is very expensive and I really cant see why other than the location. The beer was fine when I went in but the food was very overpriced and the service sluggish at best.
jpfros - 11 May 2007 09:52
Great (if pricey) food but they're a bit sniffy if you just want a pint, especially when its busy. The debate over whether a place focusing almost entirely on meals can call itself a pub will run and run but I'd go there to eat, otherwise don't bother...

Great location for a pre-game pint. Just far enough not to have been overwhelmed by thronging Arsenal supporters. Visited yesterday for a swift 568ml of Old Speckled Hen which was on great form before the brisk and bracing walk to the ground.

Do note, however, this establishment serves more as a restaurant than a pub, but the menu reads well and the steaks are recommended!

This is a great pub, especially in the summer - the garden's superb.

Food is great, and atmosphere relaxed.

Nice find on way back from a visit to the Albion, itself a good all rounder. Bar staff attentive and friendly and although this was a lunchtime the pub had a great relaxed feel. Several locals and the odd family group using the garden along with an eclectic mix of (ok) background musak mark this place out from the ordinary. I'm returning soon.

Super yummy food, a very nice and comfy pub, menu is fantastic, you do pay a bit more than you mike like but it's worth it. Staff very good too.
Randy_Campbell - 17 Nov 2005 13:49
It's well worth seeking this one out to spend a few relaxing hours drinking here during the afternoon. The perfect place for a quiet read, supping decent guest ale. It's a friendly pub and is located on quite possibly the finest street in London, if you're into unspoilt historical urban residential architecture. The food here is pricey but renowned to be extremely good. Evening Standard Pub of The Year 2003.
PieFace - 8 Aug 2005 09:49
Looked like a very nice pub nad was told about when I moved to the area but when I went on Saturday night for a drink with a firned the atmosphere was of the young moneied types being brash and loud, the staff obviously annoyed that we were not going to eat there. We drank up and went to a pub where you allowed to do what you supposed to do in pub, drink and chat with friends (a pub serving food is just that, it is not a resteraut with a bar in a pub building as this place seems to think it is) I won't be returning...
Padraig - 6 Feb 2004 10:41
A friendly, efficient gastro-pub with reasonably-priced, good quality food. Try the burger! Up to three real ales on hand pump plus a good selection of foreign beers.

The food is popular evenings and Sunday lunchtimes, so booking is wise. Ideal for a lazy afternoon, the rear of the pub features sofas and low tables. The pub is fairly down-to-earth generally, and unpretentious.

Recommended.

Used to be absolutely dead (mid-90s) - and overshadowed by the Albion just around the corner. I'm interested to see what has happened since.

A cabbie once told me that it was the only pub in England with this name - which seems strange because it doesn't appear to be a particularly odd name. Anyone verify?

Nice wee gastropub, but not too poncy. *Clean*.
Maurice McKay - 25 Jul 2003 17:19
A superb gastro-pub with big comfy sofas, great beer and a nice little garden out the back. The restaurant is upstairs, so the bar is very chilled. It won the Standard's pub of the Year and rightly so. Highly recommended for just a drink, or for a special meal out!
