Beautiful outside area and friendly welcoming staff in a delightful village
Perfectly situated on a main road a few miles outside of Dorchester
I didn’t eat but the food smelt delicious

I stayed in the Black Dog from 12th July 2011 until 18th July with 3 friends. The rooms were pleasant and the breakfast magnificent.
We ate there on a few occasions for lunch or dinner and each time came away very satisfied. The menu was extensive and the portions hearty.
The staff were fantastic, attentive and pleasant at all times. The range of ales, ciders and spirits catered to all our tastes.
The pub has a great garden at the rear with ample tables and a play area for the kids.
If you find yourself in the area I would recommend this pub for food, imbibing or a lovely place to stay!!

Good real ales and good, down-to-earth food.
Excellent curries!

recently called in ...on a recommendation from a local...for beer festival in March.
not the pub's fault, but it was freezing and blowing a gale...beer fest marquee in garden was barely standing and the festival ales were far too cold...
...but not a single word of friendly reception from staff or locals.
food menu looked like typical pub chip-based stuff, so we didn't stay to eat either.
probably wont visit for a second time.
