user reviews of the Old Five Bells, Burnham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Myself and my disabled friend went in here as part of the Burnham crawl. There were only 2 punters in, both standing at the bar chatting to the barmaid. Either she didn't see us, or ignored us while she continued to chat. When eventually she came over, we were asked in an annoyed tone 'what do you want'? We both chose the Abbot, but on consideration of the offhand and rude way we had been welcomed, we decided to forgo the beer and leave. As everyone who lives in this area knows, there are several pubs locally. I will now drink in any of them apart from this one.

Called in to the Old Five Bells after a Tuesday night curry with a group of friends. We arrived pretty late in the evening so weren't surprised that it wasn't very busy. We were made to feel very welcome, I had a lovely pint of IPA and my partner enjoyed his Old Speckled Hen. They were even very pleasant at chucking out time and we were a bit difficult to shift! Will def be back for the Sunday night quiz.

Was in this pub las Sunday (early evening) and although the pub was practically empty I had a Very nice pint of Greene King IPA and at 2.75 a Pint was very reasonable for the area. All credit to the beer keeper. New Landlord recently took over and already making his mark. Some nice new furniture inside and out. Only one Large TV on the wall now (well you can only watch one at a time). and lots ove other area you can escape to. The only downside is that as it is so large when there are not many people there the place lakes atmosphere. Will deffo start going back in here more now (at the expense of other pubs in the Street). Well Done Guys. 8/10 for the Beer.

Oh dear - what a disappointment. The pub looks absolutely lovely from the outside; beautiful hanging baskets adorn the exterior and the beams and location opposite the church give it a very welcoming olde worlde village green look.
However, all that goes out of the window when you enter the place! Sky Sports on a massive flat screen TV with the volume turned up to 100 competing with music that is just as loud and the pub frequented with what I can only describe as the sort of people who'd tarmac old people's driveways for 5000.
It's got a cask marque plaque on the door but I'm not sure why as the two pints of bitter that were served were chilled!!
We sat in the garden to get a bit of peace and quiet but were sadly soon joined in the garden area by a chavtastic family with their overweight labrador which proceeded to relieve itself of a large turd by one of the garden benches - lovely! Give the chavtastic dad his due - he did pick up the poo after about five minutes though.
We hurriedly drank our pints and left - never to return!
I give this place a zero, only because the scoring rating doesn't allow minus figures.

Nikki & her son only lasted 8 Months, now gone to Freehouse near Guilford. Not been in since. Last Sunday IPA was Cack (Usually Good) so went on Becks, only SIX people in so no atmosphere. Not keen on returning

Since my last review there has been a change of Manager (for the better). Out has gone SKY and most of the TV's and with it the younger element. I was in there on a Friday night and there was a nice mix of old and young (over 25's alike). This is a Greene King Managed House now and I had a good pint of IPA for 2.60. There is also a range of alternating "Guest Ales" Food is on every day with each day having a Theme. Ie Friday is Fish Day, Saturday is Steak & Sunday is "Roast" . When I was there you could get two meals and a bottle of wine for 16. Manager's name is Austin and I was served by a lovely friendly Barmaid called LIsa. Will be going back on Sunday Night for the Live Music.

Extensively extended olde village pub in quaint setting next to St Peters Church. Currently run as a typical Sports bar for the younger set. Large enclosed beer garden with plenty of seating. Convienience food at realistic prices. but you gets what you pay for!!. On busy nights has Bouncers on the door. In my view this once nice pub was spoilt with the over extension.Ok for a quick one, but i would not wish to spend the whole night here. Some good Real Ales if your not into Lager!!

Bit of a barn. Several real ales on. The place was very busy at 5:30 on a Saturday evening but it miraculously emptied when the rugby match on the TV finished. It was impossible to escape from the TV as there were so many sets dotted all over the pub.

This is very busy pub, but it has a friendly atmosphere, does not have a large selection of ales but does good food at reasonable price.
