Aardvark, Rotherhitheback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Morning aardvark, it's possible that you wrote your review before you had read a food hygiene rating awarded to your favourite pub by an organisation known as 'Scores On The Doors' who operate under the authority of your local Council ! Tut...Tut.. No rating left, not been round that area for years.

I've not been going to the Aardvark for long, but I love it! I'm an english female, and this is the only pub I've ever felt comfy going into for a drink alone. Everyone in there is so friendly, there's always something going on in there, and the food's pretty damn good too! And I really recommend the Strawberry Daiquiri on Cocktail night (Wednesday!)

Hey Aardvark00 What is it about your comments that make me think you might have some connection with this pub?

The Aardvark is probably one of the most friendly pubs in SE16. The pub's patrons comprises mostly South Africans, Australians & Kiwi's, however has a very loyal English and Irish following as well. First mentioned are known to be loud and Afrikaans, spoken by South Africans, may sound aggressive but the people are very hospitable. Bar staff are friendly and the bottled beer selection is mostly South African - it is a South African themed pub - but on tap is the usual offering. The menu offers great food at very respectable prices; probably the best fillet steak I have had in London was at the Aardvark.

Unfriendly staff, rubbish selection of beer, disgusting toilets, aggressive patrons and crappy food - The Aardvark's got it all.
Unless you're in need of a pub that has Sky Sports, you'd be well advised to pay a visit to The Ship & Whale just round the corner.

I've visited this pub both when it was The Fitchetts and after it's take over as the Aardvark. The Fitchetts was a comfortable, clean and friendly local boozer. Visited here just before Christmas to find it is now the Aardvark and is now almost solely for South African customers. I don't have anything against South Africans (in fact I visited there with my South African friend) but I did take slight offence to the dodgy looks I got from some of the drinkers in there when they heard my friend and I conversing in English and my obvious English accent. Perhaps I just happened to go there on a bad night, but I was not impressed and felt a bit of a longing for the old atmosphere!
