please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This place re-opened some time ago now and is called Aces and Eights. The Spanish tapas theme has gone (thankfully) and it's now a kind of upmarket rock n roll bar. Personally I like it a lot better than Bar Lorca, which was just pretentious. This suits the area better too IMO. I don't know if they play music off a juke box or an ipod but they play some great stuff in here across the whole spectrum - I've heard tracks in here I haven't heard for years or have never heard at all. Food is now just pizzas (I think) but I haven't eaten here. Friendly staff and free Wifi.

I have to agree that the service needs improving as four staff took four minutes to serve three people. I can never understand why bar staff carry on cleaning glasses when there are people waiting to be served. Especially when the place is almost empty so there is no way that they are running out of glasses.

San Miguel, Heineken, Amstel and Guinness are normally available on draught, but on my visit at 19:30 on a Friday evening the Heineken and Amstel were both off. I ordered a San Miguel and nearly dropped it as the pint glass was covered with melting ice.

On the plus side, the barman that served me was apologetic about the lack of lager and the place is relaxed and, from what I experienced, has a decent clientele base.

I wouldnt want to stay here all night, but as mentioned before, this would be ok for a late drink.

Bar is well stocked with interesting drinks but I have to say that the bar service was really poor. Bar staff were more interested with hanging out with their mates than serving and appearing remotely interested in their paying clients. Really poor in terms of customer satisfaction.

Love this place - go regularly and spend far too much money! Staff very friendly, drinks average price (cocktails 6) and food is good.

This place is brilliant. Laid back, cosy atmosphere & the tapas are fantastic.

Good for a late night pint after staggering of the last tube on a Friday or Saturday. By that time it's rammed solid with Tufnell Park's beautiful people :)

I'm local as well :b

We too live locally & use this bar regularly.
Far from it 'always being dead' it has established itself as a busy bar on Friday & Saturday evenings. Rum & beer are good - tapas too - we've eaten there on several occassions & never been 'bed ridden' as a result. Music is quite good too at weekends. It is a grown ups bar though, with a very different target audience from The Boston. If you want Irish music & drunken irish men, then that's the place for you. If you want a more comfortable & eclectic surround then give bar Lorca a go!

We live local and went into Bar Lorca one night for a few drinks and a spot of food...

we ordered a couple of drinks and i put my card behind the bar....

We ventured over to the tapas counter to have a look at what was in there .... we had the displeasure to see fur and mould growing on the food... - we freaked out and both nearly puked!!!

this was horrible it really was!!! - we told the guy and he removed straight away but even still... not complimentary drink or apology or anything.. the server even got the arse because i was not buying food so the two drinks were less than the 10 I guess she wanted...

As other reviews have said its allways dead but seems ok for a late pint... - just dont try the food unless u want to be bed ridden the next day!!

If im being honest this place isn't good its just another pub that try's to justify charging over 3 for a pint just because they have a menu and a few bottles of wine on selection. It always looks emty in there when I go past, personally I'd rather go to the Boston Arms across the road and have a nice cheap drink with a good bunch of people rather than pay out my nose to drink with a bunch of people with their head up their arses.

fair play to whoever decided to open this up as it's something different in an area full of of good boozers. a boozer this ain't but good for a late drink and next to the tube. deserves success.

Fairly informal Spanish-type bar, directly opposite Tufnell Park Tube. Never felt the need to try the food but the Spanish lagers are fine (1 tap, various small and large bottles), and lots of wine. Can be hit and miss sometimes, but is open late on weekends so good for a last beer before heading home, and is good for a quite drink during the week.
