user reviews of the Potters, Burgess Hill

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Potters has always been a half decent pub but started to go down hill and looked like yet another pub closing.
Since Matt and Sharon took it over and put a lot of effort in this pub it has now become the best pub in Burgess Hill, very friendly and helpful staff, the Guinness is fantastic, another bonus is its a dog friendly pub and you get quite a few dogs (and owners) in.
They now cook fresh home made food which is always good, another reason for a visit. The Potters has a fantastic large beer garden with a large decking area and outside bar and BBQ in the summer. If you like live music Friday nights are always good with a good selection of live bands.

Brilliant Pub. People that get along with anyone, never any trouble, and plenty of banter. Looking forward to the kitchen being installed.

This pub is on the way up, what a difference having people run it who are keen to make it a success. Thank you for resurecting this pub!

The reason people might say this is a regulars pub is because it's actually a family pub, and therefore, thats what a lot of family pubs are like.
It is not a clicky pub at all and the regulars will treat you with respect and like any other customer if you decide to go there.
It is out of the town centre, and in a residentual area, so therefore you are not going to get the 1am closing time, which means it is a nice pub and you don't get any of the idiots in there, like other venues in the town centre.
The beer garden is far superior to any other offering pubs in the area may have. There is a very large undercover smoking area, and garden for children to play in (yes, again, it is a fmily pub).
The pub also offers Sky Sports and Setanta Sports.
The bar staff are friendly to everyone.
Great place to go, best in Burgess Hill!!!

This place I suppose has never been that great, unless you are in with the locals! Its one them pubs where if your face fits and your spending money, then you're accepted. If you Choose another boozer for a change and then go back there, you will be greeted by regular faces that almost scowl at the fact you dared go back! This really is the "clickiest" of all pubs I have ever been in!

If you do manage to a get a "regular" status, you will be treat to private parties, plenty of takeaways and friends that will last as long as your spending money there!

Its not a nice place and the bar staff are miserable as sin! It used to have good fun people behind the bar who had a laugh whilst working! Now its like a funeral gathering!! Oh well, I'm off to Barcena for a friendly beer!!

Unless you are a local you are made to feel very unwelcome, some staff even appear very surly.

We didnt stay and went to the Woolpack which is just one of the far superior pubs in Burgess Hill.

I guess the Brewery/owners will get it right eventually, lets hope so because it has great potential.

Nice clean recently refurbished pub with excellent outdoor smoking facilities and pool room.

However I do try and avoid drinking in here as it seems if you are not a regular you're not welcome. Bar staff miserable 90% of the time.

Still good, as i have mentioned before.

The recent re-fit took a bit of getting used to and I'm still not sure about it, but its a business and it needs numbers drinking to make money
Its clean, welcoming (and the loos have advanced 40 years in 6 months, hoorah!) and not a chav hole like so many others.

An underused garden which is now in very good shape.

nice pub with a nice garden, interior very nice as well since the refit, the only thing is they do need to get some cheerful barmaids, without getting personal one in particular is a nightmare, try the pub though you might be lucky and go on her day off

They've smartened this place up. Was overjoyed to find Harveys, Deuchers and Summer lightning all available, the Deuchers was great. Service was also good and there is a seperate pool room. Still a bit too close to BH town centre for comfort but there's nothing they can do about that. On the way up.

Brilliant since the revamp. Still a good range of real ales, great garden for children. Need to improve the lunch time food menu

Good news! The loos are a disgrace now. Not sure if the whole pub needs doing up, but doing the toilets might take a month!
Harveys is still well kept and still my pub of choice for a few beers
raveydavey - 11 Jan 2007 01:10
The mens toilets are a disgrace..the pub is too smoky in the winter, and the Landlord will not spend money on improving things, unless you count a video jukebox which no one uses so plays the same vids time and time again, I use the place on a daily basis but to be honest it's only cos i get some freebies!

I know what you mean about the 60th party , i was there , and it was not very good
anonymous - 11 Oct 2006 13:09
Excellent Pub, good beer (lots of "Real Ale")a little noisey inside but good garden for the children

The Potters used to be a decent pub but it has gone a little downhill, the landlord has a habit of holding private functions in the main bar area, he even held his own 4oth birthday party there and didn't invite some of the regulars who have supported him and the pub since he took over, in another act of folly he took a booking for a 60th birthday party to start at 1700 the day England played Portugal in the world cup!! the poor people were waiting for a very loud and crowed main bar area to clear before they could hold thier party...! there are better pubs in the town where your custom will be more appreciated

Still doing the business, I am still going there, ale well-kept if thats your thing. Still the best garden in town.

I think the potters has a great atmosphere, local yet trendy with the spacious outdoor decking. Great for the family and also the single crows. The Potters is the place to go.

Turn left out of rly station, walk down the road for 10 minutes and you'll find it.
The landlord has spent the last year gradually improving this pub and has recently had decking put out the back. Its clean, welcoming and vaguely trendy. It has loads of potential and I dont really know why its not busier. Its a real haven from the Railway and Hogshead which in particular is now unbearable on sat night. Do the landlord a favour and visit the Potters if you are in Burgess Hill.
