Popped in here on the off chance for lunch today...very quiet but some nice beer on including Apprentice from Maylands brewery, a tasty drop. we ordered food and it was home cooking at its best, would recommend the steak and kidney pie !! And reasonably cheap too. Its by a big church and is a bit of a local maybe but give it a try !! Also had a game of darts !

This is a small localspub tucked away behind the church. When I was in there on Saturday afternoon there was a group of what appeared to be locals getting stuck into a serious darts match. I didnt interact with them much, but they seemed a friendly and polite bunch to me. Theres also a smallish garden at the back, with a shelter for smokers. The ales on offer were Adnams Bitter, GKIPA and Mighty Oak Brewerys Maldon IPA. I had the latter, which was well kept and absolutely superb, and is a good session beer at only 3.6%.You are unlikely to stumble on this pub by accident, but it is worth seeking out if you are in the area if you like small country pubs with decent ale.

I popped into this pub when visiting a mate who lives nearby. it's a pretty small pub, with limited seating, but seemed good. served a nice pint, and the food smelt great.

I'll have to eat next time I go.

I have read about your plight in the publican and am sorry to hear it. I am a fellow licensee and multi pub operator and can sympathise with your situation. Just a suggestion for you, I believe you can errect a shelter in wood up to 6 feet high without planning permission as long as you adhere to the 50% rule who can stop you. It is then classed as temporary structure as in a garden shed or fence. Worth checking out as I have seen some awesome shelters made of wood. (thesunpub.co.uk)

Did the fool living next door report all bonfirers for polluting "his" fresh air? If not then he ought to be dragged to the village stocks, whipped, pelted with rotten stinking fruit & veg and left to contemplate his misfortunes!

Often visited a friend in Hatfield Peveral and used the Queens Head, very nice place indeed. This idiotic warning from the Council shows how mad this country has gone. I urge Jeff to look at "freedom2choose.info" where he will find people prepared to fight for pubs, landlords and the common man's rights.
Good luck Jeff.

a wonderful OLDE fashioned pub with very friendly staff and locals who welcome you the moment you walk through the door, the beer is served in excellent condition and at the moment a chouce of three ales are on offer, the wife cooks fresh all the meals and the husband has to taste them before customers are allowed to consume them!! what a gem. you can get a bus from Chelmsford direct. well worth a visit you won't be disapointed i give it 10/10

A gem of a pub in a very nice village. This is a traditional village pub with bench seating in one bar with another bar for dining. At the moment there are three real ales on with an ever changing guest ale.Home made food is served Wed-Sun(not Sun eve)The landlord and his wife are very friendly and welcomming as are the locals.A bus from Chelsmsford stops right outside.Do give this village pub a visit as it is a real pub selling food unlike the other pubs in Boreham which are restaurants selling beer.
