This place is still intact. But it is no longer a pub. The Anchor is just opposite and still open.

Not a bad pub and convenient for the local walks. However, we found the food to be average and overpriced, although the weekday deal seemed good value at 9.95, if you want 2 courses. The beer was also a bit steep at 3.50 for an indifferent pint of Harveys. The Larkins at 3.40 wasn't too good either. Will try the Anchor nearby the next time we're in the area, although I am not very hopeful that it will be any better. Overall disappointing.

Fair enough place, seems friendly with good beer (Larkins and Harveys) though a little on the pricy side.

A wonderful welcome, good atmosphere and helpful service was greatfully accepted after a miserable visit to the anchor inn the week previous.
The food was without fault, with a vote of approval on the chicken fajitas (from my hard to please wife).
we asked to sit in the restaurant to celebrate our 1st anniversary, but were asked to take a seat in the bar as the restaurant was fully booked, but could still enjoy the a la carte menu. we went for a bottle of wine to drink, but must return to try the interesting sounding beer - TEA.
all of the staff seemed to be in control of this busy little pub, and particularly enjoyed the light humour and bar room banter of the man at the end of the bar, and the chirpy barman.
i think the prices were slightly higher than average, but well and truely worth every penny.
all in all i would recommend this place and look forward to our return.
WELL DONE HAYWAGON

A cracking pub, well run and friendly. Went their for Sunday lunch, quite late and without booking and they were able to accommodate us. This is still a pub but it does have a restaurant area and you can eat in the bar area as well. Nothing poncey about this place, proper pub, proper grub and a well kept pint of Harvey's and Courage Directors was also on tap.

I believe they do food all day on a Sunday at least and they also welcome families as long as children are seated and supervised, which sounds like a reasonable policy to me.

There is also a large car park on two levels and it's close to the Ashdown Forest, Pooh Corner etc. I've been here a couple of times before and it's always busy so they must be doing something right.

Excellent! Visited on a Friday lunchtime and found a busy pub serving excellent food and good beer. The pub did get very busy so be warned, well worth the trip though.

We stayed at the Hay Waggon last week on our walk from Redhill to Hastings. The beer was good, food good, people friendly. The room was across the yard, but warm clean and well furnished. It wasn't cheap, but we would happily recommend this to others.

nice warm welcome on a busy sunday, top roast dinner and a great pint of westerham's grasshopper. attractive gardens and a lovely pub front give an ideal country pub experience. its a free house in rural sussex, so maybe more local products on the bar would be welcome, who needs to see bass and budweiser on tap when theres so much locally produced microbrews available?

Pleasant pub in "Winnie the Pooh" country. Good ales, good beer garden, the same round ten miles away was 2 cheaper...

17 of us visited this pub Sept 2006. Food was fab and plenty of it.service was great, we were looked after by a young bloke who seemed to everything, and kept a smile on his face all the time. The part consisted of 9 kids who were well catered for and most things on the menu could be reduced for kids.

A well loved Tv star was sitting having a meal with his family which was nice to see and g=he seemed as nice as we always thought he would be.

I would definite return!

The best of the three round here I reckon, by a short head over the Anchor as far as lunchtime goes. Need an evening trip to separate them properly but again, well worht a visit

Nice pub full of locals and visitors to the area. Sweet little garden and plenty of parking. Been there quite a few times now to eat and the food is superb, a little pricey but worth the money. No smoking in the dineing room but you can eat in the bar. Children welcome. This pub gets very crowded so I can't understand why I am the first to bring it to peoples attention. Pretty village with poohs corner for the kids.
