user reviews of the Black Lion, Bishop's Stortford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Lovely looking pub from the outside, but inside its a huge TV screen set up for pop videos or an aerobics club and a pool table. All rather bare and rough. Only beer on was Adnam's Ghost Ship, so I left.

Never seems to be anyone in here anymore, with a bit of luck it will go the same way as the George and Boars Head and close down.

Went in recently to see if there had been any improvements - I stand by my review of 10-Jul-2006!

Agree with all the previous reviews. This a grotty little hole which seems to have got worse over the years. The only redeeming feature is that it's actually quite a nice building from the outside.

Avoid.

What a hovel! Beer is very poor and the music is far too loud.

Ryanair,s off duty H.Q. Not for CAMRA members, but ok for pilots and their trolley dollies.

Town centre pub occupying a period building, but with loud music and bouncers on the door. Courtyard smoking area with speakers and big screens. Can get busy at weekends. Crowd mainly under 30s, although an over 21s policy is in place on the door most nights.

Sorry, meant loud music :-)

From the outside looks a very attractive old pub in a small market town. On the inside - load music, large screens, ranks of keg lager pumps. Bouncers on the doors at weekends. For lager louts and chavs only. Previously called Scuffy Mac's.
