Ate here today (1st Apr 2012). Lamb Henry was outstanding. Six of us popped in. Slabs of beef looked awesome too and more Roasties than we could finish! Two courses for 10.95. Unbelievable value. Some of us were trying the ales (I was the designated driver) and I am told they were all spot on as well! Rare occasion where you find food so good that you want to share it with the world! Defiantely highly recommend to everyone. (I'm so pleased that I am posting this review on a couple of websites!)

We had a midweek lunch and drinks for 20. The food was great, home cooked with fresh veg. A great variety to choose from, an improvement on the average pub lunch. Meals served quickly and the staff were freiendly. Obviously a different chef than when the last comments were made because the roast potatoes were lovely. We will definately be visiting again.

Lovely location, grim decor. 4 years ago a friend recommended it for Sunday lunch... Has it changed hands since then?I'm puzzled by the good reviews from 2008. The food was awful. Lots of it but no taste and we are absolutely not fussy eaters! I had turkey- not nice. The roasties were vivid orange and the few veg nasty & soggy. 24 hours later I could still taste the grease, nothing seemed to get rid of it. And we paid a tenner for the privilege. The bloke behind the bar was initially gushing then really arsey. We didn't have any pudding but had to pay for it as it's a set menu. Even with the huge portions & dessert if you want it, the meal we had was not good value, we left most of it because it tasted awful. The real ale drinkers may be ok here but the only time I'd go back would be to take that buffalo head off the wall and give it a decent burial!

An excellent pub in a rural location on the A62 between Marsden and Delph.

Three cask ales - the two I tried were excellent. The food was excellent quality with very generous portions and superb value for money. It took quite a long time to arrive but was worth the wait!

Visited this pub 22/8/08. What a fabulous location. Had a great meal in there (mixed grill) and the Tim Taylors was on form. Difficult to fault the place but, maybe they could improve the choice for "veggies"

We had a lovely time at the Great Western this weekend. Although we didn't eat there the food smelt great. Very clean and friendly. I was particularly impressed with the cider on handpull! I will definately be going back, probably for a meal next time.

Great location for walkers to wind down from a day out.

Please ignore C_Urchin.
I've just been to the Great Western and had an EXCELLENT meal, certainly upto their usual very high standard, and several good pints of Copper Dragon 1816. The landlord told me he'd not had any complaints from any of the 170+ customers they'd had so far today.
Cheers.

The food used to be great but it's now average to less and Jeez we've had to stop going there! They are just up the road from an Osset brew house and the beer was like vinegar.

Not going back, if they can't look after an Osset they ain't looking after me.

Great spacious pub out on the Marsden Moors. Restaurant looks good, and there is a wood burning fireplace which makes it all very cosy. Great for walkers, this is reasonably close (on a day's walk anyway) for a station to station walk and the 184 Manchester to Huddersfield stops right outside. For those using the Greater Manchester Wayfarer day ticket, this is the last bus stop in the area! So finish your day's walk here, have a few jars of the excellent Black Sheep and get the bus (timetable behind the bar) back across the Moors - how fabulous is that?!

The ales are Black Sheep Best, Taylors Landlord and Ossett Silver King, which was good.
