This is possibly the worst pub in the whole world.

Full of sreaming kids and parents who don't give a sh*te, as for the beer or food, don't even go there.

It's fitting that it's called the Air Balloon because when I'd eaten my last meal here and drunk some of their gassy beer, I was full of wind !!

Walked in on a Saturday tea time and walked straight our again as it was like a kids club!

Probably fine if you have kids and want to eat with them but for a beer as an adult without kids it wasn’t ideal.

What a perfect location, great parking and vast size of a place, thats all it has going for it. The food is fine if you like every thing deep fried microwaved or boil in the bag with little or no fresh ingredients, when it arrived and then only half the meal... So so disappointed none of the family were impressed or satisfied with the meal including non fussy 12 year olds, will never return again unless it changes ownership or at least management. Service is very poor, the staff are polite if somewhat demotivated and do their best but what a waste of an entire gold mine!
As for the kids play area dirty and poorly maintained.

Thought this would be a great pub to go to with our daughter for a Sunday lunch. What a mistake. Turns you you have to pay 3 for the kids to go into the small play area and you have to stay with them so cannot eat your lunch at the same time. The play room was small and cramped with juice spilled on the floor. The toilets had no soap, were filthy and there was toilet roll everywhere. The main restaurant was quiet (we found out why). We ordered food which was the worst food I've ever been served at a pub. Husbands pie was pure lard, kids pizza was one of those microwave ones and my "breaded" chicken was battered and deep fried. The clientele were mainly families swearing in front of their kids and wearing tracksuit bottoms. Will definitely find a different place next time. They should be ashamed of this place - have eaten the same meat at one in the same chain in Hyde in Manchester which was spot on and wonderful.

Leftfield, I hope the hour's estimate wasn't for provision of a pint of beer - I could believe it of this place.

I was recently given an estimate of an hour for service. If TECKNIK gives this level of service the 'thumbs up' - he must have a lot of time on his hands. The solution is simple.............more staff.

Having been to the AIR BALLOON a number of times, thats me and the wife and at other times a group of us(4-14),we are told at the time of ordering our meal how long its going to be(more time to have a drink). With regards to children well it is known as a childrens eating pub.
I agree that at times service could be a lot better but then you cannot PLEASE EVERYBODY all the time.
I give it the THUMBS-UP every time.
TECKNIK.

This pub under the right management has real potential, particularly with the decent sized garden hence child friendly and ample parking. As it is, like many other reviewers, I found the service interminably slow and the lack of punters means no atmosphere. What struck me most was the fact that despite the pub being almost empty, the tables were covered in glasses, bottles and general debris. The cycnic in me wonders whether the pub is being left to go to pot in the eventual hope of redeveloping this extensive plot for flats and house. At lease then the place would serve a useful purpose for those of us who live in Horley.

Food is mega cheap, place is always empty, but is VERY kids friendly pub with a decent enough playground in the beer garden and a wacky funhouse. YOu get what you pay for - not best for a night out but good enough to take your kids to if you fancy a pint.

Overheated, slow service, beer not good at all - I honestly didn't feel inclined to try the food after that. Not a pub that I'd go back to for a second visit.

Like paladian, we also left hungry. Published prices are low but if I was selling something for 10, and I did'nt have any or couldn't produce - I'd probably start selling it for 5 !

Made the mistake of calling in for food - twice in the last few months; didn't get fed either time. Last week, Tuesday, the delay - we were told by the solitary barman - was 35 mins. Prices are good, 2 for 1 etc. But, how relevant is that - if the goods cannot be produced ?

I recently had lunch here and was amazed at how slow the service was. I thought they had flown to Italy to get the Italian salad! And then after my meal I went to the bar to get another drink and despite it not being very busy on a Thursday lunch time I waited for 20 minutes to try to get served and eventually gave up. There was one person behind the bar who only seemed interested in taking food orders. The pub was full of families with out of control children who clearly needed to get some energy burnt off in the Wacky Warehouse next door instead of being dragged in the pub. Despite everything the food wasn't too bad - shame they can't improve the surroundings.

I could be wrong but didn't this used to be the Game bird, possibly one of the greatest pubs ever.we used to travel miles to get here especialy on a Sunday. I still think it's a pity it changed although i doubt I'd go there now as I'm in the mid 30s and remember being there one Sunday when the DJ asked A guy how old he was and he replied 31 and I thought "you sad git go home and watch TV"
