Friendly country pub in a beautiful location in the South Downs. 3 real ales: Landlord, Otter and an ESB from the Havant brewery. All in good condition. Freshly cooked food and bar snacks, although this is not trying to be a gastro-pub and drinkers are definitely welcomed. I visited in winter and there were two log burning stoves and a cosy atmosphere. The landlady was polite and professional, so it seems it is definitely under new management compared to some of the comments from several years back.

CameronMcGoldrick is totally right! The new management has done great things with the place. The steak and guiness pie, as well as the chicken and mushroom pie are absolutely top notch - unrivaled in the local area! Beer is well kept and service is as friendly as you could wish for. Cracking pub, well worth a visit. It also has bar billiards and darts.

Visited Sunday lunchtime. Staff were friendly enough and beer ok, the baguette I ordered was a long time coming and was not very good value for money 6.95 for a sausage baguette, and the bread was obvisousley frozen before then defrosted as it had gone very hard by the time I had finished eating it.

Having been in the bar several times on a Sunday lunchtime and noticing the enticing food coming out, I decided to try it myself.
We went on a Friday evening and weren't disappointed, good, value for money dishes using local ingredients in the dining room. Friendly service, and good to see the bar full of locals. Try it!

Nice looking place from the road - and that's about it. Unwelcoming landlord/staff and the food prices are a joke - this is a pub for goodness sake not a city centre restaurant. We did actually eat there and the food was unappetising and poorly presented. Go somewhere else.

was very disapointed with the greeting we recieved no warm welcome, just a stern face behind the bar ,was put off by a dog (black lab) running in and out of the kitchen area not a good start to know dogs in the food area which was about to be served to us and on top of that was over exspensive for the quality of food we had served to us (left overs more like it )the beer was ok not the best i have had from pubs in that area sorry will not be going there again and will not recommend to family and friends.

Welcoming pub run by two stalwarts of the region who know their beer and their food and present both in very comfortable surroundings. Very handily placed for a pub-crawl up or down the valley !

Nice beers but, over the last six months, meals have become highly overpriced and quality become second rate (16 for a small, thin steak!)- where on earth do they get their meat? Off our list for eating out in future as, elsewhere in the area, we can get much better food for about 10 less a couple!

Excellent No-Smoking pub. Very welcoming and friendly owners, pleasant staff and well kept beers.
Newly refurbished and perhaps not to everyones taste but everything else more than makes up for it.
Excellent food tops this pub off!
