user reviews of the Foresters Arms, Frogham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Had a meal which was average, but when we came to pay were overcharged, this took the edge of the day.
Have complained by e-mail will see if anything comes from it!!

After a closure of a few weeks the Foresters reopened with a new landlord. Still an excellent range of real ales on offer. Food not quite as exciting as that under the previous landlord. But not bad.
Still rates about an 8.

I am sorry to say that today Sunday 31st March the Foresters Arms has closed its doors. Last week we had our last lunch at the pub complimented with an excellent range of real ales. We wish Michael Harding & his wife success with their new venture, a pub Nr Sherborne in Dorset. As yet there is no new tenant for the pub.

If you don't support them, these pubs will become a thing of the past.

Back again (midday) for lunch after a walk over the Forest's heathland. Yes, it is expensive (but then so are almost all of the pubs in the New Forest-- if you find a cheap one, please let me know). Places in Ringwood, Burley and Fordingbridge might well be cheaper; but this is in the middle of the Forest and cheaper pubs aren't. The Foresters is is of a good, reliable standard. I'll stand by my earlier rating of 8/10.

Congratulations to this pub for supplying the first 4 pint I have had (and that includes visiting several London pubs recently). It was a badly kept pint of Wadworth's Bishops Tipple................wont be back

Nice country pub good garden and dog friendly. Wadworths range of beers and heres the best bit for me, the Farmers Glory was spot on , excellent, glass filled to the brim unlike some landlords who seem to have a policy of below the brim. Friendly helpful young staff. Menu looked appetising and reasonable prices (didn't buy food though as we had picnic..), my only down mark is the beer and soft drinks prices were very high and suprisingly so given the food prices being average. Will visit again for meal next time.

I notice that visitor 12 only registered on the site to make that adverse comment & has left no other reviews. We had lunch there a few months ago, perhaps not quite up to it's previous standard when I rated it at 10 but still one of the best forest pubs around.

Expensive, for both drink and food.

CS site just behind means it's handy for C&CC members who want to camp near a pub.

Sadly the prices put us off and we won't be back.

There is little I can add to my previous reviews. This is an outstanding food-led Wadsworth pub that does beer on a level with the food. One thing I will say is that it is very busy, not just at weekends, book is the watchword.
To it's credit the Foresters remains a seriously dog-friendly pub, and, to repeat an earlier warning, beware the donkeys, they eat things. But then, this is the New Forest..........
My rating remains 9.

Bearing in mind the adverse comment already made regarding this pub I came here not quite knowing what to expect.
I found the fish pie as good as any I have had in the area, the to the standard I would expect and the restaurant layout and decor pleasant. I would certainly return here again. I have a wide experience of village pubs in the New Forest and this establishment is as good as any.

Worst pub food ever! Visited this pub on 4 April 09 ( unfortunately). Wife and I wanted to share a pork & apricot pie to leave room for desert. Pork started off a bit tough with leathery pastry, but we gave benefit of the doubt so didn't change it when waiter enquired although we did comment (bad move); it got tougher. Owner thinks the food is great but they obviously don't sample the food before it goes out of the kitchen. Wondered when I got home why the bill was a few pounds high...phoned and found we had been charged for two children's portions when we could have shared a single plate...clever approach, since it wasn't made clear. Don't need to say more!

This pub has never let us down. We called in yesterday 'Sunday' after a hard muddy walk from Pickett Post. The staff were brilliant, found us a table for 7 even though they were busy with the pre christmas diners. Food promptly served with a smile. No complaints about the quality, I can recommend the beef & mushroom pie, an absolute delight. The beer as usual would satisfy any real ale buff. This is a little forest gem. One of the few top 10 rated pubs on my pub crawl.

A very lovely place, but a little on the pricey side. Still, it deserves to be, as it is very special. Excellent food, well-kept (Wadworth) beers.

Just an update, little has changed since January, see below, it has simply got better,
However, my rating has changed, it is now 9.

Not that easy to find, I even forgot it was there. Me forget a pub, now that is a first. Once you get there it is well worth the effort. The food is first-rate, old-fashioned maybe but good hearty, English cooking at its best and long may it remain so. This is a pub where a pie is just that.
The full range of Wadworths beer is usually stocked and is almost always in top nick, the staf are always friendly and cheerful. It seems to be a good place to work.
One snag, make sure you book, plenty of other people have found it.
Oh, and watch out for the donkeys, they eat things.
