user reviews of the Brinsop Country Inn, Westhoughton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Walking into the Brinsop is a bit like walking into someone's front room with all the Sofas. It was very quiet when I visited the pub on a wet Thursday evening. The bar staff are friendly & very polite. I thought that the prices are rather steep.
I would visit the Brinsop again possibly to try the food.

Went into the Brinsop last Sunday, having driven past it twice a day every week for the last god knows how many years, I think the last time I went in must have been 2000?
Anyway, I'll be visiting more often in future. Food was enjoyed by all, lovely cosy atmosphere and an interesting selection of beers including a few proper belgian beers which practically guarantees the place a gold star from me.
Don't be put off by the exterior which appears to be in the process of being redone, the inside is spot on.

Still one of the few pubs in the area where you can get a decent pint of real ale. Last week they had an excellent Taylor's Landlord. Much given over to food with little in the way of atmosphere, except for the loud boors who hang around the bar.

Before you all run off and check if I am a first time poster and come to the conclusion that I work at the Brinsop - I am a first time poster but I don't work there. I am not a regular but have been to the Brinsop on a number of occasions over the last few years, for lunch, dinner, Christmas do, a drink after work, a beer at weekend and before and after a match. I find the place very very welcoming, nice relaxed environment with excellent food. There are some locals who sit at the bar but they are friendly and don't make it appear to be "a local pub for local people". I would recommend it to anyone.

Kitykat, you are clearly the same Diane that posted anon previously but signed it Diane Kay, a member of staff here. Your inappropriate use of capitals and "Mr Paul Young" gives you away.
This pub has plunged to new depths, I fully expect more comments from one time posters defending this miserable place.

Mr Paul Young and his long term staff have made the Brinsop one of the best places to eat out and relax in this area, I wish him well, not only does he run a great pub he is a great guy.

Well Done Paul,al and the team.

Sincerely
Diane..xxx

I've just recieved this from morganrossmr

"Bolton bloke you seem very eager to give the Brinsop at bad rating, yoour profile is hidden. You refer to a write up on the food which is over 8 years old. You must be jealous in some way."

Seems pretty desperate, doesn't it?

I've just had an abusive note from morganrossmr regarding this place, boltonbloke and myself have obviously touched a raw nerve!
I stand by my comments drive straight past.

Fantastic venue to relax in, with excellent cask ales, vast range of lagers, very good choice of wines at excellent value. The food all home cooked from local produce is warad winning quality.

I can't be the only person thats noticed everyone who has posted a positive comment about this place recently has only posted about this place and no other pub...........
I stand by my original comments, this is a terrible pub. Go and judge for yourself but don't say you weren't warned!!!!!

I love this pub, I'm not local, but me and my wife go here about once a month for their comedy night. There are plenty of locals who know the staff, but it is a 'local' pub, and I found that when you speak to them, there very friendly and will let you get served.
The pub has a very warm and cosy feel, offers quality food, and if Ive ever needed anything the manager Al has always been more than happy to oblige

After reading the latest joke comments on the Brinsop I asked a friend to call in to view this 'resurrection'. Believe me nothings changed boorish locals and indifferent staff.

I can't fault this pub I haven't been for a couple of months but i have found the staff to always be polite and the food is delicous and there are many different types of lager and wines on offer. I have also attended the comedy evenings and they are fantastic well done to the management for running such a pleasent pub.

Odd how no-one has commented on this place for months and recently there has been four positive comments both within 24 hours of each other.......agree with fennel, this is clearly either staff or regulars defending "their pub"
Instead of the smokescreen why don't you move away from the bar so people can get served? Oh, I know why, its pointless as the staff are never there anyway!!!!!

My family and I went to The Brinsop for a snack and a drink before going to The Reebok stadium, the bar was extremely busy and the dining area the same.
Our waitress was rushing around serving customers and drinks at the same time, even though this polite young lady was busy, she still found the time to take our food and drinks order with a smile on her face, she served us with our meals and drinks and dashed off to clear tables.
This young lady,"under pressure"made our brief visit a pleasure.
The food was good and if we lived locally we would return.

We love The Brinsop, Lovely polite staff and good food,
The place is warm and inviting,
Even at busy periods the staff still have time to smile.
Well done to the Manager and the staff at The Brinsop Arms.

A job well done.

If I were to write a review of my own pub then it would look like the last two postings

I found this pub to be warm and friendly, the service was good and the food is excellent, I was served by plesant staff in homely surroundings.
I will certainly return to this establishment as my visit was pleasurable.

Complete agreement with Boltonbloke, boorish behaviour by locals clogging the bar complimented by staff chatting with them!
manstein - 14 Feb 2007 10:55
A good place for a pint of real ale when visiting the Reebock stadium . Never had a bad pint yet , and have visited the pub on a number of occasions . I cant comment about the food , never eaten there .

A clicky pub frequented by Gin and Jaguar types that spent all evening propping up the bar and won't move from "their spot" to allow you to get served. The restraunt recieved a terrible review in the local paper after a undercover reporter sent a starter back to the kitchen only to have it returned a few monent later with a message from the chef that she was "taking the piss".
