The Maypole certainly deserves its high BITE rating. OK, it is not perfect by any means, but the beer, the food and the staff are all excellent. Three hand pulls were available – Black Sheep, Copper Dragon Bitter and J.W.Lees Bitter. I did not try the Black Sheep but my pints of the other two were tip top. The food was pretty good too. The steak and ale pie with homemade chips and mushy peas was yummy.

Was open when I passed by recently. Didn't have chance to call in though.

Closed today, there was a notice on the door which I did not bother to read. Perhaps a temporary closure?

I first visited, and reviewed this pub in November 2010, and after completing my second successful completion of the Three Peaks, I tried it again, however this time, things were not so good.
The pub is the same, however matters were let down in both food and beer.
Whilst the pub still offers a good selection of real ale, my choice of Moorhouses Pride of Pendle was cloudy and tasted off, perhaps this was a one off but still not pleasant.
I ordered their Pie, which was okay, however to expect a fully grown adult to be satisfied with just four new potatoes and a small amount of veg is asking a little too much. I recall my last visit included ample food, so something has changed here, I left the pub hungry, and not particularly impressed.

We booked and stayed at the Maypole arriving Thursday 21 and departing Saturday 23 June 2012 with our choice entirely based on the reviews below this proved a very wise move indeed as this is an absolute gem of a pub - excellent ale, excellent food, extremely friendly locals and a very warm welcome from the staff who really couldnt do enough for us. Sadly our attempt at the 3 Peaks was thwarted by extraordinarily inclement weather (I couldve sworn I saw the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse galloping over the summit of Ingleborough but I digress), nevertheless this proved an ideal venue to dry out on the outside and get suitably damp on the inside we look forward to returning for a rematch.

Used to be a regular haunt when I lived in the area. Always a good selection of real ales on. Fantastic home made food served either in the bar area or the dining room. Nice interior. Very friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Anybody mentioned the wife swapping one night a week?

Visited after walking the 3 Peaks challenge nearby, I found this to be both welcoming and friendly.
There are several rooms, including one to the side which was reserved for food although this felt cold and without character. We chose to take our meal in the main pub area which was much better.
There were four real ales to choose from, including some from the nearby Dent brewery and Moorhouses, whilst the food (Yorkshire ham and Eggs) was plentiful and superb !
The pub was quite full whilst the open fire helped in achieving a good atmosphere. Overall, a good pub and worth a visit.

Stayed here for a few days and this is a really nice place. An old stone building, with two bars and a separate restaurant, so solid that mobile reception is virtually non-existent (but excellent outside the front door!). Comfortable rooms (shame that the shower was so poor), excellent food and a great selection of beers. Moorhouse's Premier and TT landlord are permanent, and whilst we were there Naylors Cravenbrau, Goose Eye Chinook, Copper Dragon Scotts 1816 and Bowland Sawley Tempted were also available (and tried, of course). Robert and Elspeth run a lovely pub, all the staff are friendly, as are the locals. This is just what a country inn should be. We hope to return one day.

I visited this pub one lunchtime last year whilst staying nearby. This is a really nice unspoilt pub which I wish I had in London. The Timothy Taylor's landlord was in tip top condition. Liked this pub so much that I am staying there later this year.

Jumped on the train the one stop from Settle when we were staying there to get to Long Preston. Had a nice evening meal and a several pints of Moorhouse beer that was in very good condition.

A classic coaching inn in great condition. The village is nice for a quick stroll. The A65 goes right past outside but luckily the bends in the road slow the trafficdown so it does not intrude. Recommended (8/10).

Called in here whilst passing through after reading Good Beer Guide entry. Just as described. Lovely pub with very welcoming landlord, situated opposite village green complete with Maypole. Four real ales and a fifth handpump for real cider on the bar. The beer sampled was in perfect condition. Food menu contained some interesting dishes and although not sampled comes highly recommended. Only there for half an hour or so yet ended up in conversation with several very friendly regulars.

I was in again last night (Easter Monday) as part of a large party. I have to take my hat off to the excellent staff for accommodating us as they had other bookings, one of which was another large party. It was as busy as I've ever seen it but they seemed to cope with everybody.

Can't fault this pub. Great choice of real ales. Great menu. friendly and knowlegable landlord been there for over 20 years. Cyclists and walkers made very welcome.

Very nice pub with open fire and friendly staff. Also has a good sized dinning room as well serving very good food (The steak & ale pie and the hot chocolate fudge cake come fully recommended).
Had a good selection of about 5 well kept real ales on.
The Maypole is right next to the busy A65 but noise of traffic is minimal but easy to find & well worth a pit stop if youre passing.

Cracking pub. Good beer and food, dog-friendly and good accomodation. Highly recommended.

The Maypole Inn has two bars (which offer a good selection of hand pulled traditional ales) with open fires. It has a big car park and some outside seating for when the weathers nice. The menu is varied and seemed to cater for every taste, there was a daily specials board and delicious sweet menu too. Children and dogs are welcome. Accomodation is available too. Situated in the Yorkshire dales it was a lovely drive and would recommend to anyone. The staff were all very friendly.
