A nice surprise to see Monty Python's Holy Grail ale being served.
A nasty surprise when I tasted it. No mistake about it being off.
I took it back for a replacement.
The bar woman said someone else complained about it being off a while ago.
I asked her "Why didn't you take it Off?" No reply came.
Some customers might accept it and not complain, but no staff should continue to serve it.
Bath Ales Gem was the replacement.

Result at last! After disaster of last visit, spoke to Manager- Chef no longer cheffing at the Lamb, mother in law to be wined and dined as she should be for birthday- compliments of the house, and other guests given a discount to make up for the fiasco last time. Will keep you posted .
lisakinsella - 5 Jan 2012 19:43
phoned and booked a birthday lunch for 10 people, arrived gave food order for 2pm as last food at 2.15pm, seated chatted, ordered a round of drinks which was still waiting to be served 25 mins after order taken, then to be told at 2.45pm that chef had had a meltdown and main course would need to be serv ed at sister pub in Burton!!!this we declined, and left to go to the Crown in Bransgore instead- finally got food at 4pm. Lamb manager didnt even offer a complimentary drink for the inconvenience. We were seated underneath a big write up about how wonderful the pub was!Felt like unscrewing it off the wall.

Went here on Saturday evening (29th October) and found it was closed. Not sure why.

Lovely setting and lovely decor. Shame about what you find inside. Agree with earlier comment, pub seems to have been taken over and brought the dreggs with it. Two beautiful bars both propped up by drunk locals forcing you into unpleasant conversation and not letting you be served, welll giving you a long wait while they engage in conversation with the bar staff. Fowel language used whilst children around - found v inappropiate
When did find suitable place to sit, the manageress looked scruffy and not in a rush to wait on out table. ordered soup to start - very average, could of been out a packet, main meals ok, but nothing special for price and what they could be.
Idyllic pub ruined by local yob take over, poor food and what seems to be poor management by owners. Some one please take this lovely pub over, hate to see it wasted! Visit this area frequently but would not rush back to the Lamb quickly.

I have tried this place everytime i come down, if you aren't local then you dont fit. Food is ok, but found better at the Tuns or The Carpenters
champagnestyle - 18 Feb 2010 14:17
Lovely interior, beer was good. I think food finished at 2.30, we walked in at 2.33 so didn't get to sample it. Always seems to be a bit quiet though, possibly due to location. Good for a pint on the way home.
PDofA - 14 Jan 2010 17:11
I hope the chavs have gone as it is a lovely pub set in a lovely location.Who's Jimmy Tarbuck?
nige50 - 23 May 2009 19:48
Bishop1 - you were lucky, maybe because I wasnt a local
champagnestyle - 17 Jun 2008 09:15
20 minutes???? More like 2!! I was in here last night and there were always at least 3 people behind the bar and I couldn't fault the service. It was a very busy evening but 20 minutes is a vast exageration.
bishop1 - 7 Jun 2008 14:53
Funny place, does not have any atmosphere at all. Jimmy Tarbuck was in residence and the service was abismal, 20 mins for a pint, which was then end of barrel apparently. Should of learnt last time I went
champagnestyle - 6 Jun 2008 17:57
What are you talking about? The atmosphere in the lamb have been pleasant every time i've gone. The staff are friendly and willing to help and the food is completely above expectations. Some of you are just looking for faults where there seems to be none
tina20 - 19 Feb 2008 14:04
Public bar used to be OK but now most of the locals have moved on to make way for a few foul mouthed chavs and a token scouser who thinks he's Jimmy Tarbuck.
BigNorm - 20 Jan 2008 00:30
Whatever you think of the decor or the food (they do a nice burger mind you), the pint of Landlord they serve is worth walking the Avon Valley path for.

Have eaten there a few times in the past, with mixed feelings about the quality. It now seems to be trying to move up market. Several leather settees now fill the main bar - bit like a trendy coffee shop. When we were there, a number of young student types were drinking and chatting - nothing wrong with that, but I felt rather old in this new environment. I wont rush back. The Ringwood beer was okay, though.
GoldenOldie - 10 Aug 2007 19:24
splendid job with the decor?mmmmm I think I agree with the other fellow, bland food and second hand furniture do not constitute to my kind of a fine dining experience, each to their own I suppose.
anonymous - 6 Aug 2007 17:40
How can you say to bring back that horrible couple that "tried" to run it? All they did was run it into the ground.
The new owners have done a splendid job with the decor etc. I regularly take my family here for meals and we are always happy with the food and the manner of the staff. Its also nice to see a pub that is a pub for drinkers not just aiming at food food food. There is always some regulars at the bar. You can't say that about all the pubs in the area can you?
bishop1 - 2 Aug 2007 11:51
Seems that the barristers that have taken over this place have brought along the clients they used to defend, gobshites hand around the bar and weather permitting, play up in the garden, bring back Mrs Bucket pronounced 'Bouquet'
anonymous - 31 Jul 2007 16:36
went here after the Compass Mag review, what a failure, sorry they could learn serioulsy from the Three Tuns!! Wont be back
anonymous - 27 Jul 2007 08:16
Having heard mixed reviews so decided to visit one lunchtime. There was only a handful of customers eating, not really suprising considering the basic menu. Not that much to choose from and even then one item that we wanted to order was unavailable. I have never encountered processed cheese squares in a club sandwich before!!

The barman on duty told us that they don't seem to keep their chefs very long. New Head Chef starting soon so may be worth going back for another try. Once you get past the gross exterior the interior is lovely.
chefsrus - 13 Mar 2007 18:56
What a lovely place!
Food was amazing and service very good. Well kept beer too!
Well worth a visit...
bishop1 - 15 Feb 2007 20:58
I quite agree with the previous entry - it fulfills the need of both food and drink in a most satisfactory way.

The lounge bar is better than the public bar most probably because of the geometry of the latter, the furniture seems odd and locals hog access to the bar. The advantages well outweigh the disadvantages, I feel.

I was invited to a meal with friends to the Lamb and read the reveiws before going...thought it was going to be awful. I cannot believe the reveiws were about the same pub that I went to!!
The Landlady and Landlord were incredibly welcoming...there was free food on the bar. The staff were on the ball! and the decor (yes, the pub is painted salmon pink)tastefully done though! The meal in the restaurant was exceptionally good for a pub...took a little while to arrive but cooked fresh to order.(the steak was great!)
I will definately be going back on a regular basis...thankyou to the Lamb for an enjoyable evening!
To the people who have left derogatory comments previously, please give it another go...and if your still not happy...tell them!
AnnieS - 27 Nov 2006 15:50
The Lamb WAS a nice local pub run for the locals.
Seems to be attracting some unsavoury people these days, looking for trouble.Shame.
There is the odd poor soul carrying on in a bid to redeem a "local relaxing feel".
The bar staff change on a weekly basis another unnatractive feature and a strange coral/pink decor chosen I assume by someone who is colour blind.

However, if you require a good meal and a fresh clean place to be, in a wine bar type atmosphere then give it a go Darling!! Ok... yar!

hairybiker - 9 Nov 2006 20:42
Went to this pub very recently. The restraunt which was not used by the previous landlord now is.The pub is now open all day and the pub is much better
nigegil - 30 Aug 2006 12:10
oh dear, used to be a good pub a while ago, now its not sure what it is? Pink decor, not sure about that, and beer in a dirty glass. Shame, wouldn't go again sorry!
champagnestyle - 11 Jun 2006 21:54
Although the refurb is not utterly complete it is now open again and a warm welcome was received. The left hand bar is still 'work in progress' and will be the dog friendly part of the pub, The main lounge has dramatically improved, with enhanced dining facilities. It is now definately on the upward slope. Try a visit
anonymous - 4 Jun 2006 09:52
The Lamb has being taken over, they're busy doing a refurb....should be opening in teh beginning of june...looking forward to going there again without the Basil Fawlty Character be the bar....

Mack_the_pint - 14 May 2006 20:27
Guys, give the slightly nutty couple who run this place a break...the food is good (pricy), and the beer is OK, so all in all the pub is OK. Not great, but not terrible.
seasiderMM - 28 Feb 2006 19:22
Havn't you got any sense of humour?

The landlady (Smudge) is Basil Fawlty to a tee! Flatly refuses to change an "off" pint and loves to have a row with a customer (she is doing us a big favour after all!). Poor old John!!!

Good quiz on Tues. and even better jazz on Weds.
satisfied - 31 Jan 2006 17:37
We have been to this pub on several occasions. This time we decided to take our family who were visiting us from a long distance and treat them to a meal. We were all appalled by the attitude of the landlady . She was indifferent to a couple of requests and downright rude to a couple of my family members. We would NEVER go there again and we are making it known of her attitude to as many people as possible. She shouldn't be serving the public at all.
anonymous - 4 Aug 2005 22:32
Went in there a few weeks ago for something to eat. Never again - I paid nearly 10 for a steak & kidney pudding which looked and tasted like a Brake Bros 75p one and had been microwaved - incompetently, if that is possible!
Billy - 20 Oct 2004 16:54
About 15 year ago, the Lamb was a CAMRA recomended place. This was before the time when real ale lost the battle to food. In those days the Lamb was jam packed when a CAMRA meeting was held, and the landlord always had a interesting selection of real ales. Now it is just another foody place. There is both music and quiz nights, but I have not noticed the elderly customers drinking much. They go there for the free entertainment - and good luck to them. After all there is more money in food than beer isn't there?
Peter Froude - [email protected] - 6 Oct 2004 19:59
Despite what has been said below, it is not a bad place to visit. The family with me had a meal and we were all satisfied, all of us having different main courses, the total bill was reasonable. Beers were well kept.

Dogs and children are allowed.Outside seating front, back and side. Childrens games area. Jazz on Wednesdays so it gets a bit crowded. Pick a different night to have a meal - for the sake of elbow room.
anonymous - 17 Aug 2004 11:35
Well what can i say!i visited this pub after moving back to the area,i wish i hadn't the beer has certainly not up to scratch when i asked for a fresh pint after i was not satisfied with the look of the one i was served i was promptly refused and made to feel i was stealing of the barmaid..very dissapointing. The so called managers i hear used to run the struan inn at ashley heath shame that place was also good TILL IT GOT PULLED DOWN for housing development!
steve - 22 Feb 2004 19:40
Quite agree with the last two comments. The decor is well maintained to keep up appearances. You may even find the odd hyacinth on the bar.
anonymous - 21 Feb 2004 12:38
Once this pub was a CAMRA recomended establishment. It was then full of real ale drinkers, and it had a great country atmosphere. The new people however have turned it "foody". By the way it is a big mistake to ask for a top-up, as the landlady goes crazy. Anyway the Lamb has a good car park, and at night you can see all the stars and the Milky Way.
Peter Froude - [email protected] - 5 Nov 2003 23:46
Our visit was spoilt by the offensive behaviou of the landlady/manageress. We were put from staying for the food and revisiting. A good candidate for the Fawlty Towers Award.
Keith White - 5 Jul 2003 16:40
Lovely little pub with well kept though small range of real ales. Haven't tried the food although anecdotal evidence tends to suggest that it has gone downhill recently.
